Regarding W10 Customer Reviews: We transferred all customer product reviews from the predecessor W1 over to the page of the new W10 due to the similar configuration (single balanced armature driver). The new W10 now includes 2 cables: MFI Music Control for iPhone and a new improved braided cable for audio only. Aside from this we can tell you that in doing A/B tests between the W1 and the W10, there is a big sound improvement most likely due to possible upgraded new balanced armature drivers, driver placement and new shell acoustics. All customer reviews dated before September 23, 2013 are for the predecessor W1 model. All customer reviews posted after September 23, 2013 are for the new W10.
Summary of Customer Ratings & Reviews
I bought these after my Beats, which are not even close to competing with the comfort and sound quality of these earphones, fell apart. The W10 has by far the best noise isolation that I have ever used, including earmuffs designed specifically for that purpose.
I'm a big Westone fan. I had a pair of Westone UM-1's until my son spirited them away. He's a musician and was just blown away by their stellar reproduction of recorded music, although their primary purpose was studio or stage monitors. Great that he was happy with them, but that meant I was out of my Westones. Then I picked up the W10's, as they're specifically tuned for recorded music. Again the quality of the sound as well as the build quality, is as good if not better, than my old UM-1's. I really like my music tonally flat so that you hear it as it was meant to hear. The bass isn't thumpy... it's just true... again as it was meant to be heard. Where my W10's really shine is in the mid-ranges and highs. I've been hearing things with the earphones that I've just never heard before on speakers. As far as comfort is concerned, I don't think you can beat Westones. I find noise isolation to be virtually complete when I use the included large foam ear tips. I just love them. They're just perfect for me. I'm just sorry that the W10's aren't among the Westones that are built in the U.S.
I’ve tested different earphones in the last time. Now I try to give a review to some of them and compare them to others. Let’s come to the Westone W10. Comfort: These definitely are the most comfortable earphones I’ve ever had in my ears. The whole Westone series is the best on the market when it comes to comfort. But the lower end ones are even better as they are smaller than the ones with multiple drivers. These buds are tiny and fit perfectly even in small ears. They are comfortable for hours and don’t stand out of the ear so you could even sleep with them. Quality and Accessories: They are well built and come with two exchangeable cables with MMCX-Connector (so you can easily find replaceables if you need), one with mic and iPhone-control (middle button also works with android phones, but volume control doesn’t). 5 different sizes of tips, each in silicone and foam are included, so 10 pairs altogether (for me the best tips on the market) and a well built orange travel case. Another special feature are the exchangeable faceplates in 3 colors. Not necessary, but in my opinion pretty cool to have. So quality and accessories are better than most competitors. Sound: The W10 feature a single balanced armature driver. For a single driver those are pretty expensive, but in my opinion these are the best single drivers I’ve ever heard. The Bass is pretty good, with good punch, but as normal for single driver it sounds neither big nor full nor very strong. Best off all single-drivesr, but as technically given has a pretty weak bass compared to most multi-drivers. Mids and Highs are clear, little emphasis on the highs. The sound is very easy and pleasant to listen for a long time, not linear or boring but also won#t give any wow-factor. Soundstage is not huge, but not too small like some other IEMS. Summary and alternatives: The Westone W10 are pretty expensive for a single driver, but sound great and give the best comfort you can get. If you want more bass, you will have to pay more for multiple drivers or take a dynamic one. As a dynamic one, I could recommend the MEE M6 pro which delivers great sound and even better accessories for a very small prive point or something from Phonak which delivers very full sound for their price range. The higher end Westones will deliver even better sound and a fuller bass, but you will have to pay more. For me they sometimes seem to offer the better value for the money.
The W10's are great. I use them for treadmill running/walking. The fit is great and the variety of ear-tips really make the fit exceptional. I had Beats before, I had no idea what I was missing from a much better quality product.
I've had Westone earphones before and they have been great, but this W10 earphones have a dud right earphone as it is only operating at half volume. I've checked the leads, swapped them over, changed iphone etc. etc. and it is definitely the right earphone that is faulty. I've contacted Westone via their website over a week ago, but still haven't heard anything back from them - very disappointing.
We are very sorry for this experience.

I had a UM pro 10 until I lost it recently. However, I chose W10 instead this time. Overall, it is a great earpiece and the shipping was very fast although the price for international shipping is quite high. I think the sound quality is good and i can't really tell there is much difference between this one and UM pro 10. The music sounds more powerful and greater balance between music and vocal. However, I do prefer UM pro 10's cord as it feels better at the ear because it has the moulded cord around the ear but W10 comes with an alternative cord with remote control. I don't use remote control so i prefer the cord for UM pro 10. Overall it is a good product and maybe for beginners, i will recommend UM pro 10 over this one.
Bought it for my wife, she wanted to use another brand. It is more expensive but overall value for money still there! Comparable to Shure as I am a shure fan
These are an amazing value for just $89. They sound great, with good highs, excellent mids and enough bass. They're also very light and easy to wear, I use them for conmmuting and at the office. Also, the service is incredibly fast and accurate. An excellent buy! Pros: Sound Comfort Balance between highs, mids and bass Quality built Price Cons: Nothing
I cannot actually use them. They do not fit in my ears. I've given them away. Pros: Cord doesn't tangle. Audio seems fine. Cons: Can't fit them in my ears no matter what ear bud cushion I use.
Good in ears for the price sounds great sitts nice in ears and well just like them Pros: good quality sound for what you pay Cons: not removable cables
Earphone Solutions has a free upgrade option, so I opted for the Westone 1 instead of the Westone 2 earphones just to see if I liked the general style. After trying out the earphones, I can't see any reason to upgrade to the Westone 2. While it takes a little time to put in the earphones, the fit is amazing. The unit is bigger than some of the small ear-buds, but the shape fits so perfectly that they fit better with a helmet on then the smaller ear-buds (primarily ski/board helmet). Having the cable go over the ear is works way better than I expected. They will not come out during heavy exercise (mountain biking, running, etc.). My girlfriend has never found ear buds that will stay as she has small ears and very small ear canal. With the smallest in-ear adapter (the earphones come with a huge selection), they fit her very well also. They have a few styles of adapter, but the squishy kind that seem to be the same material as some ear plugs are the ones I've been using. They block out a significant amount of exterior noise which can be both good and bad. The sound from them is incredible and I can't see wanting any more bass or power. The sound is crisp, clear with a solid bass. I'm going to try some other style adapters to see if I can hear more of my surroundings when I'm biking. Regardless, I've never bought any in-ear earphones that were over $25 before, I now realize my mistake. As a bonus, they come with a great case that has just enough room to fit my little .mp3 player. Pros: Great sound Great fit (even under helmets) Won't fall out of ear Significantly blocks outside noise Cons: Significantly blocks outside noise (lose situational awareness, hard to communicate with others). Take a little time to put in
First, let me say that I've owned and returned the expensive Shure SE535, SE425, and SE215 models. I stopped letting price be my guide as each model was really suited for different things and my needs were never met. After a quick email, Earphone solutions was very helpful in advising me on the Westone W1. I wanted something neutral and analytical, but not so much that it is no longer musical and fun to listen to. The W1 gives me exactly that. Now, with 50 hours of burn in, it sounds even better. I'm so impressed with how comfortable the cord and fit are compared to the Shure products that I may try the W2 or W4 models, but that will be in the distant future. Right now, I couldn't be happier with my purchase of the Westone W1. I can't stress how important it is for you to burn these in at least 10 hours before giving them a serious evaluation. They just keep getting better. Turn your ipod on, toss in a drawer and forget it for a day and you're set! For those curious, my music is in Apple Lossess or 254k mp3 & m4a format (highest quality) My source is an iPod touch, or my AudioEngine DAC / Amp plugged into my laptop to bypass the junky soundcard. Pros: Slightly rolled off treble, detailed, but not harsh. Excellent midrange bloom and clarity Slightly more bass than UM1, never boomy. So comfortable & amazing isolation. Unreal price for such a quality IEM More forgiving if used with a poor quality source (less hiss other IEM's I've tried) Cons: A tiny bit more bass would be nice, but not if at the expensive of the lovely mids. A hard case like my red UM1 came in would have nice. The stock case is just OK.
I loved the sound! Couldn't believe how good they sounded... But after a month of limited use, the sound from the left channel was horrible, like muzzled! Right side is perfect, kind of disappointed at the quality! Checking on the warranty options now... Pros: Sound while lasted, portability Cons: Durability

I have had these for over two years and they have been perfect for listening to both audiobooks and music. Everything that Earphone Solutions sells sounds good. I'll leave the debate over which earphone sounds better than the next to others. What sets the Westones apart is their comfort level and durability. These are small enough and conform so well to my ears that I can lay my ear on a pillow for an hour and not notice any of the discomfort I experience with any other earphones, including the Shure 215's that I also own. I've also used the Westones a lot on the trail while backpacking and while working all day in the shop. They have taken a huge amount of abuse and they've never given a hint of giving up. Pros: Cons:
I've been using these earphones almost every day for 17 months and they sure made listening better on my iPod Nano. They are incomparably better than the earbuds that came with it. I listen to music of all genres, spoken podcasts, and audiobooks. Everything comes through clearly. I would have given them five stars but nothing is perfect though this comes close for the price. I'm thinking of upgrading for even better sound quality. I read a review somewhere complaining about the wire going over the ear. I prefer it that way. These earbuds fit securely. They come with a variety of sleeves to choose from. My only problem with the earphones is that a post broke off when I tried to remove the sleeve. That's not a problem if the earphones are under warranty. A plus is that the company has always been a pleasure to deal with. Pros: Cons:
I bought these to cut down the wind noise when riding my motorcycle as other headphones did very little to do so. I was surprised that no only was the noise cut down, but the quality of sound was just as impressive. Anyone looking to avoid extreme wind noise on motorcycles, while being able to enjoy music should purchase these. Pros: Excellent for motorcycle riding Cons:
I recently left my +$350 pair of Westone 3 in the seatback of a Southwest Airlines flight to Houston. I purchased these from Earphone Solutions in April 2012, and was very amazed with their performance but found some discomfort when wearing, and tried different ear pieces. I bought a low cost pair of Skullcandy as a replacement, but missed the performance of the Westone 3. I was looking for a more comfortable pair than the Westone 3 and at a price below $200. I called Earphone Solutions and they suggested the Westone 1 since these have a smaller housing (one driver) and choices of ear tips. Since I only use earphones with my iPhone 4S for flying and casual listening, I did not need a microphone control for taking phone calls, but did want a volume control. They suggested the Level Attenuator Volume Control accessory that is the same as I had with Westone 3. The EQ control on my iPhone 4S is set to Off. I just received the Westone 1 and auditioned: Moby, Pavorotti, Rebekah Del Rio, Johnny Cash (Ghost Riders in the Sky, Highwayman) and some oldies: Wheels (String-A-Longs), Timi Yuro (Hurt). The Westone 1 earphones have the same cable, provide excellent noise isolation, the overall mids, highs and good performance and a decent "soundstage" that I enjoyed with the Westone 3. Since I'm 62 yrs old my hearing is not perfect, but I found the accuracy is excellent, low frequency bass is not as good, but at the price the Westone 1 is great, and comfortable with lighter weight. I also conclude that I prefer "accuracy" rather than strong bass to hear details of the recording for listening comfort at lower volume levels. Earphone Solutions customer service is outstanding. I'm a happy camper ! Pros: Comfort with flush fit Accuracy Noise Isolation Accessories (Case, ear tips) Price Cons: None
Have not got to use them much, but overal, they are very impressive. Wish they had a little bit better bass. I think they will be great, when I get to use them more!! Pros: Cons:
These are great headphones. I bought them for running. The sounds quality is very good and I can listen at low decibal levels. At these levels I can still hear external noise. I had to experiment with different ends and watch the video multiple times until I was able to get a good fit. Now the fit is great, very comfortable, don't move while running. Pros: Very comfortable Good sound quality Great for running Cons: A little time to figure out how to best fit in ear
I have about 2k miles of commuting with these under my helmet and love them more each day. Other "Buds" i have tried still allowed plenty of road noise to creep through during my 50+ mile commute, causing fatigue by the end of my ride. With these, the noise isolation is so good, i still leave them in even if i don't want to listen to my iPod. I have read some complaints about lack of bass, but my set has no such issue. They are very balanced and easy to listen to off of the motorcycle. The artists on my iPod include; The Beatles, Diana Krall, Megadeth, Tupac, Porter Robinson, Greg Brown, New Medicine, Shadows Fall, Garth Brooks, Erik Mongrain and Sean Kingston to name a few. i havent found a recording that makes these sound bad. The only issue i have had to date is their sensitivity to water. I use the rubber 3 flanged adapters and they need to be cleaned or else they just get gross. If you happen to be a little careless after cleaning and don't completly remove the water from the inside of the adapter it can make its way into the driver, making it sound very muted. i was able to blow them out using my personal breating apparatus (lungs), and they have worked just fine since then. I would definitely recommend these. Pros: noise isolation cable over ear all the accessories that come in the box good sound Cons: moisture sensitivity cables are a little short where they split to meet the buds
Been using them for 2 weeks, and they are awesome! Pros: Cons:
Earphones Solutions is one of the best place you can ever get your earphones from. They are very efficient, shipped out on the same day of order and received it within 4 days. Westone 1 was a upgrade from my Bijou3. Totally loved the clarity and just the right amount of bass as I'm not a bassy person. Pros: Cons: - Nth
I didn't want to spend a ton or settle with cheap earphones. I use these everywhere and they do an excellent job of damping outside noise and they sound great musically. I'm sure the westone 2's sound better (the reason for 4 stars) but these sound pretty darn good and they are comfortable too. Buy them, you'll be happy. Pros: the sound and price Cons: nothing
Excellent sound across the spectrum, and a very comfortable fit, no matter whether you're lying down in bed, or jogging in the park. Also compliments to earphones solutions for extremely fast postage to Australia - they arrived in less than a week. Pros: Cons:
Used them mainly in the airplane for my business/pleasure trips. They do eliminate the exterior noise but I find that for 120$ the bass could be much more enhanced or of better quality. My bose of 80$ have way better sound but they do not eliminate the exterior noise. Pros: They are multiple ear bounds in order to try and fit everyone's ears and a case to protect them. Cons: They will only fit people who have small ears. I have big ears and they are tight enough even with the bigger adapters.
I ride a 2011 BMW F650. While the engine noise isn't huge, the wind noise is, as i don't ride with the extended windshield. On long rides, the wind can drive you crazy! I previously just used the included earphones for the iPhone, but, while i like the controls, the earpieces are uncomfortable and you have to crank them to hear over the riding noise. The Westone 1's are a god-send. The foam plugs are comfortable, secure the earpiece in well, and isolates the sound brilliantly, so you don't need to drive them hard. They also don't get dislodged when you put your helmet on. The sound is crisp, and precise, maybe a little lacking in the low end, but for this price, my expectations were exceeded. I usually get a bit of an ear ache from prolonged wearing of in-ear earphones, but so far so good with these, Pros: Comfortable Great sound isolation plenty of different earplug sizes clear, crisp sound affordable Cons: no iphone controls a little lacking in the bass
Super sound quality. They really stay in the ear. Overall great design. I use them everyday. Well worth the money and then some! Pros: Cons:
This is my second purchase of Westone 1 earphones. Despite loosing the sound in my left earphone, and then, my right earphone after about one year's use, I opted to buy another pair. Why? Because the comfort, sound, and fit were so good and had become such a part of my routine. I felt lost without them! My day begins with the Westone 1 earphones pumping music and/or podcasts for thirty-five minutes as I exercise on an elliptical trainer. I continue to use them while I work in my workshop, driving a diesel tractor, mowing my five acre lawn, and riding my motorcycle. I love the fact that the Westone 1's do not interfere with wearing noise reducing headphones, which I wear when operating heavy equipment, and that my motorcycle helmet easily slips on over the Westone 1 phones. Pros: Compact profile and extreme comfort. Also, good sound for the price. Cons: I wish these earphones were more durable. The left side gave up the ghost after nine months and right side in a year. Unfortunately, I did not register the phones with Westone, so I lost the second year's warranty offered when bought through Earphone Solutions. Needless to say, don't make that mistake!
These are fantastic for blocking out sound and work just as well as my dedicated earplugs. The bass is not as loud if you do not have a full seal as standard headphones are. I would reccomend this product for those who are looking for a great earphone with good noiseblocking properties. Pros: Cons:
I have tried numerous earphones and ear plugs for two reasons while riding motorcycles. The first reason is to block the wind noise and the second is for enjoying some music while riding. These are by far the best I have used for both purposes. Great clarity and sound for the music and they block the wind noise far better than the many options I have tried. The in ear fit is exceptional especially if you wear a helmet. The way the wires loop over the ear makes the earphones stay in place much better. I made the mistake of letter the better half use them on a recent ride, I am now ordering a second pair :) Pros: Great sound quality Block the wind noise excellently Great in ear fit without the need to constantly readjust Cons: A little pricey but worth the extra $
For $119 delivered, these are amazing. I have owned several more expensive models of Etymotic IEM's over the past few years and I feel like the design of even the entry-level Westone 1 series is superior and the sound quality is comparable. One major criteria for me was comfort. I use these at bedtime fairly regularly and I can sleep on my side without any discomfort. They also stay in my ears, where other earbuds would not. I could never sleep on my side with the Etymotic design, since their barrel-shaped design sticks out from the ear further and goes considerably deeper into the ear canal. I also use the Westone 1 for exercising and the cable noise is basically non-existent when compared to Etymotic. (I have basically given up on Etymotic because of the exasperating cable noise / microphonics.) I also like the clever design of the Westone that allows the cable to be routed in front of or behind your neck, depending on what you're doing when you're wearing them. Sound quality wise, they are warm sounding and crystal-clear at higher frequencies. The mid-range frequencies are relatively forward and the low frequencies are reasonable but certainly do not create any real concussive sound pressure levels. Overall, a terrific design and surprisingly good sound quality for $119. Pros: Price Comfort / Fit Design Lightweight Twisted pair cable design Virtually no cable noise or microphonics Crystal-clear sound quality for modest cost Cons: Slightly forward mid frequencies Slightly modest (but adequate) bass In-line microphone option would be a nice option
D. Oliver, Westone now has a model with in-line microphone, the TS-1: http://www.earphonesolutions.com/westone-ts-1.html
This is my 1st armature driver earphone and my first thing I notice is the bass is not as great as my last earphone (which use dynamic driver). However, the clarity of singer's voice is amazing :D I'm satisfied with this earphone. Pros: Comfort Clarity Cons: A little weak bass
I've tried five sets of earbuds in as many months: Skullcandy; Shure (x2); Klipsch; T-Jays; With the Westone 1s I finally found the perfect pair. The sound is nicely balanced and incredibly detailed. I now hear nuances in songs I've never heard before. They''re also wonderfully comfortable. Unlike other earbuds I've tried, the cords don't transmit sound when rubbing against my clothing and the right-angled jack seems like it will prevent the inevitable cable fatigue and breakage I've experienced from wearing my iPod on my belt. One small quibble: it's difficult to distinguish the left bud from the right; I had to resort to a dab of white paint. Otherwise - fantastic! Pros: Great sound Comfortable Good sound isolation No transfer of noise from clothing Cons:
I owned these for a month and I never liked them at first. The sound quality is good, but the bass is really lacking. Don't get these if you listen to electro music. After a month I swapped to the bigger foam tips. To swap them, make sure you don't just pull.. squeeze and rotate them out. Same method of putting them on. To make sure they comfortably fit in your ear, roll up the foam and stick them in your ear. Hold them in with one finger for about 15 seconds. After about 30 seconds, the foam will expand and seal your ear canal. Here is where the noise canceling really shines. I can't hear anything outside. I can sleep on my side, no problem. They are extremely comfy. For the reasons that I really like punchy bass in my music.. I can't recommend these as I regret my purchase. If you listen to music other than electro then I do recommend them. Pros: Noise Canceling Comfort Cons: Not enough bass
The Westone 1 IEMs are great IEMs. They fit so comfortably it's like they aren't even there. I can even sleep on my side while wearing them without any discomfort. The sound isolation is a huge plus, especially in busy streets/subways. The sound quality is great for the price and gives a very natural sound. Love these earphones. Pros: Sound Isolation Comfort Sound Quality Price Cons: A bit too bassy for some types of music.
Great choice for use while running or under a motorcycle helmet. Several earbuds included to fit all comfort preferences. Eliminates nearly all external noise with excellent sound quality. Pros: Excellent sound/ bass Fit comfortably under motorcycle helmet Elimates nearly all external noise Cons: Right/Left symbols difficult to see
I found this website and these earphones after Googling "Best earphones for running" because I was fed up of constantly pushing my earphones back in my ears. These earphones definitely fulfill my needs. I have not once had to push them back in as they stay exactly where I put them at the start of my run. The high and mid frequencies are performed very well by the earphones and they are a little lacking in the bass department. But for the money they are exactly. I am sold on Westone's and the brilliant service from this website (3 working days for delivery to Australia!!). I can see these lasting me a while but I plan to upgrade them to the Westone 2 or 2's at some stage. Pros: They stay in my ears. Look different to what everyone else is wearing. Nice solid sound. Cons:
I use the Westones only for motorcycling. They have been excellent for fit, comfort, and sound isolation. They stay in the ear while the helmet is put on or removed. From idle to highway cruising, no volume adjustments are necessary. My one peeve is in regard to cable lengh. Excessive cable flipping in the breeze is irksome. An 18 inch cable as a motorcycle specific model would be awsome. Pros: Sound isolation. Fit. Comfort. Cons: Cable length
My roommate let me try his set of Westone 1 earphones, and they're simply amazing. I didn't find the design intuitive at first, but once I got them to fit, found they're incredibly comfortable, and just about the only earphone in the world I've found that will physically fit (and stay) in my small ear canals. The over-ear cord is simply brilliant, so they don't pull out of my ears while sleeping - or by a dropped iPod. The sound quality is a little too flat for me, but it was fixed by an equalizer. His pair has even been accidentally machine-washed and dried (at least once) and still work perfectly fine. Will absolutely recommend these to anyone who is in the market for a new set of earphones. Seriously considering returning the Beats by Dre I bought to purchase these. Pros: Price Comfortable fit Over-ear cord Style Everything else I haven't mentioned. Cons: They aren't Westone 4's.
I can describe these earphones with two words, comfortable and clear. The highs and mids come out great sounding, but there is one problem with these earphones. The bass is lackluster even with a good seal in my ear. Bass isn't distinguished like the highs and mids of this earphones which really disappoints me. Other than that these earphones are phenomenal and still my favorite just wish something would be done about the lower end of the sound spectrum in future earphones. Pros: comfort clarity high mid Cons: -->BASS<--
would give these a 5 overall but it is difficult to finally get them in just right for me. Unit seems just a little too small to fit perfectly in the ear. Pros: design excellent sound detail on full spectram good bass once seated properly Cons: fit
I got these as a christmas gift from my wife (I told her to buy from earphonesolutions, but don't know if she did). I wanted these for use in the gym as I don't want to ruin my trusty Westone UM3X (and my Audio Technica ATH-ES10 and AKG K702 are not really that practical while working out). One of the first things I noticed very clearly is that the sound signature is more aimed at music listening instead of music 'analyzing' like the UM3X, which is probably a good thing. Another thing I noticed immediately is that, compared to my other headphones, the sound is a bit more 'rough around the edges' which is to be expected as it's only 25% of the price of my other phones. I'm a picky listener, but as I will be using these mainly while working out, I very much doubt that will be a problem. What I like best about them is the fit. I thought the fit on my UM3X was awesome, but these phones kick it up another notch. The fit is sublime for a universal, once they are in place you can truly forget about them being there. And when you select the right tips for your ears, they stay put. For the sake of testing, I put on some metal and did some serious headbanging. Let's just say that my neck muscles gave in before the Westones... Also, they are flat enough to wear laying on your side in bed or to wear under a helmet. Good price, good isolation, decent soundquality, awesome++ fit. Sources used im testing: Acer travelmate 5760 notebook, Sansa Fuze 8gb (rockboxed), Nationite S:Flo2, iBasso D2+ headphone amplifier. Pros: - The fit - The value for money - The variety of eartips it comes with Cons: - The slightly rough sound - The cord could be a couple of inches longer (it's just too short to go down my back to my front pocket.
Customer service at Earphone Solutions is excellent, I ordered the Westone 1 Earphones online and found the ordering process very easy to complete and understand. The day after I placed my order online I called Earphone Solutions and added to the original order. The gal I spoke with was very knowledgeable and helpful - couldn't be more pleasant, and was able to add to my order so everything went out in the same shipment. Received my Westone 1's five days after order was submitted. Bravo Earphone Solutions. Great product from Westone and superb service from Earphone Solutions. Pros: Fantastic product !!! Have had similarly priced earphones from others - Bose, Klipsch, Monster. The Westone 1 simply "blows" them away on sound quality, packaging. the great carrying case, also the braided cords are wonderful, very pliable and refuse to get tangled. Overall, a true "value purchase" Cons: 1. I had great difficulty finding the referenced "Warranty" link on the Westone web site. Had to do a Google search to find the online form. I've included the link below and think it may be a good idea to speak with the Westone people about featuring this link on their web site or posting the link on Earphone Solutions Westone page. 2. Earphone solutions did not include a "registration card" for warranty as referenced on their web site, only a receipt of purchase in packaging as received. 3. I was mistakenly under the impression Westone 1 were manufactured in Colorado only to find out the Westone 1 is "designed in Colorado" but "made in China. Some of their other models are in fact manufactured in Colorado.
First I´m gonna talk about the Earphone Solutions service, it´s the best place i could've bought from, they always keep you informed of your transaction. So no incertitude, that may happen with other stores, especially for those that are buying from Mexico or internationally. About Shipping. I chose the tracked shipping because of the insurance, and it was fast i got it on the same week although you have to bear in mind that fedex will charge you taxes, like 150 pesos (i thought they wouldn`t cause i read they were made in Colorado, but they´re made in china so no FTA) Then the earphones. I lost them within two weeks so i'll write from my short quality time i had with them. They´re the most comfy I've ever had, they are good for studying and exercising indoors cause nothing distracts you so you always stay focus on your duty, I do not recommend these for commuting cause they can be very dangerous on uncontrolled environments they totally block out noise with the foam tips. They certainly lack bass and you can't do anything about it, it´s because they're single driver and yes i had the right and tight seal with the foams, they´re very clear on the mids and high frequencies, I'm no bass junkie so i think that if these had a little bit more of bass they`d be perfect, the cables and the plug feel durable in your hands so I think if I hand´t loose them, the warranty wouldn´t have to be used. Looks. They are discrete and nice. So I encourage you to buy them if you´re no bass junkie and you want an upgrade from your stock ones, they without a doubt be an improvement. I wish i hadn't lost them. Pros: Fit Comfortable Mids and Highs Looks Cons: I wish they had just a bit more of bass
I bought this exact pair of earphones about a year ago and i felt pure disappointment when i tried them on for the first time. The bass is pretty weak and the earphones just sound 'hollow' If i tried the westone 1's at a store i would definitely not buy it as it is expensive and not worth the money. I had a pair of jvc marshmallow (about $7 when i bought them) and they were great compared to the westone 1's but they break pretty easily so i recommend the jays 1,2 or 3. I greatly prefer those earphones to these. Pros: good noise cancellation Cons: tangles easily weak bass sounds 'hollow'
I have had these Westone 1 ear phones for over 3 years. I use them everyday. I work in radio and I used then while I am on the air for a 4 hour shift, then I use them when I run and when I ride my motorcycle. In other words, these spuds get a work out at least 5-8 hours a day. Never a problem and very nice fit in my ear! I have had a situation with my headset before and the fine folks replaced them, no questions asked! Pros: Cons:
These were the best earphones I've ever had. I'm not much of an audio geek, so I'm not good with technically saying what the bass and treble balance etc. were like, but they sounded GOOD. And they fit really well, too. The thing was, just after a year of owning them, the right earbud failed. And the interesting thing is that I'm definitely sure that the cord was not the issue. It was definitely the actual earbud. So being the idiot that I am, I never registered them, leaving me now earbudless. Well, I suppose I DO still have the left one. But anyway, the star that's missing from my review is, I suppose, my own fault. So let my example serve as a warning to the rest of you: DO register and get the extended warranty. It may well be worth it. But otherwise I would recommend these buds. Pros: Sound quality Good fit The cord's pretty sweet, tangle-wise. It can still get tangled, but it's a lot easier to get un-tangled than others. Cons: Longevity
The reason for my title is because I have never had a pair of headphones that have a) caused me as much annoyance, and b) fit as well as these Wetone 1s. There is no doubt that the fit is wonderful. I wear them daily for my runs and/or weight training and since the day that I bought them in July, '11, they have not dislodged themselves or at any time needed adjusting mid-routine. I've also listened to the Westones while flying (and sleeping) on planes and, again, it does its job admirably without calling attention to itself through discomfort. As much as I love music, I listen to all of my music via my iPhone, iPad, or dock speakers system, so I can't in good conscience say that I'm a true audiophile. But, with that said, I do know the difference in music quality between fantastic, good, mediocre, and bad earphones. These Westone 1s definitely have good sound. So, why the annoyance? Well, as I've said, I purchased them four months ago, and I am on my fourth pair! It appears their shelf life is about one month of use before one of the channels/buds gives up the ghost. The first two times it was a "day to night" effect in that I had been enjoying all the tonal color they were capable of providing one moment, and then after putting them down for a few hours, I put them back on and heard nothing but the darkness of a failed channel. This last time--about one week ago, I went for a run and heard only a muffled sound coming from one ear. As the run progressed, the sound went in and out. If I adjusted the slide button to cinch the cords a bit, there was more clarity. Eventually, I took them off and ran to the sound of the treadmills on my left and right. The positive out of all of this is that Earphonesolutions.com has always been great with my purchases and Westone's warranty is for two years. Since I live outside of the U.S., I'm forced to travel to the authorized dealer who honors their warranty each and every time these fail for a new pair of replacements. In a way, the office employees have since become acquaintances. The last time I saw them we waved goodbye and said, "See you next month!" And just so you know, I'm one of those people who spends energy to take care of purchases. So, I would be hard-pressed to conclude that the failures have been user-influenced. Fingers crossed this fourth pair will be a little more resilient than the others, because I can't imagine going through this ridiculous routine for another 20 months. Pros: Fit Sound quality Small footprint Two-year warranty Cons: They are extremely unreliable (unless you think getting a new one every month is reliable).
First earphone from Westone and loving it. Fits my budget as well. Great service from Earphone Solutions. Pros: cable sound is crisp and clear design and colour Cons:
Though not as well defined as my Westone 3's, these phones I bought for my wife are the best bang for the $! At $119 they simply blow the Bose out of the water. Nice full range clarity with solid bass. You'll never be sorry to pick up any Westone earphone - consistent quality. Pros: Bang for the $ Solid full range sound Cons: Its all good, you have to spend 3x the $ to get markedly better sound.
I don't usually submit reviews however i was so impressed by your service i felt compelled. Firstly other reviews helped me too decide on the westone 1' which as an international customer gives you that extra confidence to act. Iam an adventure motorcyclist which can mean spending long days on the bike to access remote locations, having music for company is fantasic. The westone 1' work a treat, as i have small ear canals the small soft surrounds allowed the proper fit and all important seal so that they stay put when pulling on the helmet i didn't need the volume to high to overcome the wind noise at open road speed. I assumed the comfort factor would be over stated as everything is sore after weeks on the bike and sleeping rough, but my ears were one of the only body parts not feelig it. Last but not least the westone 1 sound quality blew me away, i had only used std apple plugs prior which i found next to useless walking around and totally useless on the bike. Finally your Fedex delivery service is spot on. As i had left my purchase to the last minute the tracking system showed me where it was step by step and the delivery date of a monday was spot on as i left for the latest adventure on wednesday. you have a satisfied customer in me and i suspect you will hear from my riding buddies as i didn't stop talking about them. Cheers Dan Pros: Cons:
I've had my pair of Westone 1s for about 9 months. I've had the right earbud stop working twice and now something is wrong with the cord and the sound is not right. Westone has replaced my earphones twice and I plan on returning this pair as well. I bought these because they were recommended for running and working out, but they are not durable enough. In short, buy them if you don't plan on doing anything while wearing them and you should be fine. Pros: fantastic sound Cons: very low durability
Dear Jed, We see you may not have purchased these from us as the "Certified Buyer" link is not displaying. But in case you bought from us please rest assured that your earphones are covered for 1 year + 1 year when you register them with Westone and present an invoice from us. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your feedback. Please contact us and we will take care of you one way or another. Flavio T
Work well, they cut down engine and wind noise. Pros: Comfortable, and stay inplace when putting on and taking off helmet. Which is the main reason for purchasing these. Cons: Price, I think these should be priced around $60-70 at the most.
I was looking for some decent earbuds, primarily for use around campus as well as commuting on my motorcycle. own 2 other pair's of headphones both sennheisers (HD555, PMX 680's) I am very pleased that Westone includes a variety of sizes and styles, i found the triple flange tips to be the most comfortable as well as providing the best sound isolation. I could not be happier with both the sound quality as well as the fit. Furthermore i was able to qualify for free shipping, and being from canada, previous vendors, i have always taken an absurdly long time to process my order. However i could not be happier with both the speed of processing as well as the ease of purchase from earphone solutions. They have me now as a permanent customer. Pros: Sound Clarity Fit Weight Accessories Cons: no "standout" mark on earbuds to distinguish left from right
I use this earphones for jogging and are simply the best. I have tried several other brands that claim to be "sport" and they just could not compare. They stay on and sound great. Pros: Fit and sound quality Cons: Nothing.
I'll start by saying I'm not an audiophile, but I love music all the same. After losing my Etymotic ER6i, this are a welcome replacement and upgrade. More comfortable, it has an amazing cable, and much easier to get a great fit. I've noticed some change pre and post burn in, but it's a better change. I've heard some details in blues, folk, and jazz tracks that I hadn't noticed before. Pros: Cons:
I found it with these earphones. Exceptional noise blocking with good quality sound. Used with my Droid X for MP3's, Pandora and FM radio. Ride the freeway to work most days and use less than 50% volume while travelling about 70 mph and can hear clearly. Earphones are comfortable and don't interfere with the wearing of a helmet at all. No regrets on this purchase. Pros: Exceptional noise blocking with good quality sound. Comfortable. Cons: Nothing so far.
I use the West. 1 for running and working around the home. They do a great job for bass and treble definition. I listen to PodCasts and am picky about the spaeaker's diction. The W.1s do the job well. My major crit. of them is their ability to break. Going to be sending them back again as the left channel went out for the "buds". I originally used them for about 6 mos. and had the left channel go out. The "turn" time was about a week from Boulder to Ohio. Pros: The sound definition and stay-in ability. Cons: They break!
Dear Thom, We apologize for the inconvenience. Usually when a channel keeps going out like that, sweat is going inside the nozzle. You can get an accessory called Monitor Saver ($9.95) and leave the earpieces inside this little container over night. This device pulls the moisture from inside the earpieces and it's very useful if you are a runner or live by the beach or simply live in a place where the humidity is very high and / or you sweat a lot while wearing them. This is usually not an issue as it only may affect the sound if the sweat goes inside the nozzle which almost never is the case. At any rate they should bounce back after "spending" the night inside the monitor saver device. It's sold here ;) Thank you, Flavio
I really am happy with the earphones. I am having a little trouble finding the right ear sleeve for my ear but that has nothing to do with the performance of the earphone. I like that I can lay on my side in bed with these in my ears without pain. Pros: Noise isolation. Cons: Finding a sleeve that fits my ear...may need to have custom eartips made.
I have gone through my own share of sub $100 earphones prior to purchasing this one and let me be another one to say that none of them can match up to these. The single BA drivers on these sound and feel substantially quicker than all of the dynamics I used to listen to. Bass response is more an adequate for what these are, assuming that you know you're not looking at an earphone geared towards bass-heads. That being said, there is a perfect amount of punch in the low frequencies followed by a satiable amound of mid-bass (less than those found on more mainstream buds, such as some of the offerings from V-moda). I need not say much regarding the middle and high freqs because as other reviewers have already mentioned, they're nothing short of fantastic. Much to my accomodation, vocals, especially female ones, are so much more pronounced and crisp and clear. While focusing on the drum tracks in various recordings, I can make out cymbal sounds and rim clicks/shots with ease. With the type of sound I've been describing I also think it's fairly safe to say that classical music is one of the strengths of this particular earphone. I'm sure the soundstage on more higher-end models are much more wide and expansive than these, but I am not willing to cough up another $100-$150 for those. If you are looking for a pair of earphones that have precision, clarity, speed, punch, and fullness in all frequency ranges and don't want to empty your piggy bank, you'll be more than satisfied with these. P.S. make sure you get a pair of Shure Olive tips to go with these! Bass response is improved upon without much compromise in the upper-mid/high freqs. Plus, the tips are extremely comfortable and will ensure that your earphones won't slip out of the blue. Pros: -Excellent vocal presentation -Nice and punchy bass minus the mid-bass bloat -Clear and sparkly highs for a $100 BA earphone -Accessories included are very good -While not mentioned in the review, the form factor/design of the earphone is what also drew me into purchasing these; VERY small housing with braided cables that go over-the-ear = love. -The package arrived days before estimated arrival date Cons: -Miniscule green design on the outside of both earpieces (looks unprofessional)
I bought these after having had a bad experience with the cords & intermittent sound on the Klipsch S-4's..... Proper fit is everything in the Westone' 1's, because if the fit is slightly loose, you may not get any bass. Try the various sizes until you find the one that works for you!! The folks at Earphone Solution walked me through my choices and it was a great one! Pros: tangle free cord great sound nice carry case Cons: slide for adjusting the cord fit could be slightly longer or even eliminated
Sounds very good to me . And of course its got the famous stay in ear design .great. Pros: all things Cons: yoke too short in front
I haven't found one earphone that stays in my ears. Am I alone in this? Thought I found the solution with these, but no dice. Tried all the ear pods, none did the trick. Pros: Cons: Didnt stay put
Dear Aglazen, please make sure you are wearing them with the cables pointing up and around the back of your ears. Thanks for your feedback!
The sound quality of these earphones is great. Obtaining a good, tight fit in the ear canal is a must and after some trial & error with the various tips I got the fit I needed. But I have 2 issues - one with additional features (or lack thereof) and one with customer service. First, minus 1 star because I really wish these earphones had a clip on the cord so it could be pinned to your shirt. I often wear these while running or walking, and since I'm in a heavy traffic area I only wear one earphone so that I can hear approaching cars. (When properly fitted in both ears, these earphones do an excellent job of sealing off external noises.) But without a clip to pin the cord to my shirt, the weight of the cord (and the other earphone) pulling around the top of my ear is irritating. Same issue, but less so, when wearing both earphones. Minus 2nd star for customer service. According to the website "in order to receive a 2nd year warranty from Earphone Solutions, send in the enclosed registration card." I did not receive such a card so I emailed and tried the online chat several times and never got a response from either. (Yes, I checked my spam folder). I finally called customer service and the lady didn't know anything about it and suggested I keep emailing. Really?? She would not let me talk to anyone else (supervisor, etc.). So I hung up and called customer service again and got a different person. She told me the warranty registration is on the CD (an online link) sent with the earphones and she also gave me the online link right then. My bad for not fully going thru the CD, but bad customer service on their part. Pros: Great sound Good seal eliminates external noise Lots of tips included to find best ear canal fit Cord designed to wrap around ear - less likely to be accidentally pulled out Cons: No clip on cord Customer service uninformed/unhelpful

Ok, so i purchased these earphones a while back ago, probably a year and a half ago, and they are still working. But there seems to be an underlying issue, that i guess cant be solved. There is very little bass in there earphones, and no, its not the fit at all. I even purchased the um56 custom fitted kit, and there was no difference. At this point, i returned the first pair for a refund. I love this website, because they return stuff so fast, and have very nice people always waiting on your call. So i got the second pair in, and did the exact same thing. I even let them play for days on end to try to break them in. And here we are, nearly 500 days later, and they still sound tinny. The bass is not there. The mids are amazing, the highs are present, but not clear as dual driver speakers, like the apple in ears that you can purchase for 80$. i personally don't think its the earphones, i think its my ears. all in ears do this to me, except my six year old apple in ear original, first gen earphones, that got washed and have bass responses down to 10 hz! dont try this, it was an accident. ' Another weird thing is that when i listen to music on my shure SRH440's, i can hear the bass. definately. The only way i could really hear the bass on the westones is by plugging them into my harman kardon 335 receiver, with dolby headphone software in it. Then things were acceptable. But besides that, weak bass on ipod, pandora one, and computer with headphone amp. Pros: Build quality is insanely good, almost unreal cable is really high quality great service via westone and earphone solutions, the provided fit kit is huge, but didn't fit me. free comply foam tips, volume attenuator, and 1/8 inch adapter. Cons: no bass, for my ears, and i had best feel. Two sets of these didn't do the trick, and had people try them out and said they were fine.
The only "kind" of ear canals that the fit doesn't cover is the shallow / wide ear canals. Based on your experience I believe you are not getting a good seal. When the seal is not good, the low frequency is what "leaks" out. So for most customers that have this issue, we recommend the eartips made by Shure PA910-Large and that does for 99% of them. Thanks for your review.
After years of owning a Zune, I made the plummet and started to look for my first real set of headphones to enjoy my music. I seeked out what was hot and cool, The Beats by Dre ( in the ear retailing for $149.99). Assuming that the in the ear set would be as superb as their full size headsets, I purchased them at the local Best Buy. After 10 minutes of usage, I discovered these were disgusting. Returning them for another set in their music dept (forgot the brand), I returned those after speaking to a good friend of mine and experiencing his Westone 4's. The depth, clarity, quality of tones, and mid base won me over. Since I was looking in the $100-$150 range of headsets, he recommended me to try the Westone 1's through this website and I've been in love ever since. These by far isolate better than the other 2 I tried out, the sounds is just fantastic with my Zune HD, and I love the fact that it comes with multiple sizes of ear sets and the convenient carrying case. This by far is one of the best purchases I've ever come across in a long time. Westone's, fantastic job. You have a new customer for the rest of my life! Pros: Cons:
I bought Shure SE215 together with Westone 1 together. I prefer the sound of Westone 1 than SE215. Westone 1 is more balanced in every frequency than SE215 for me. But for someone who prefer has more bass, he/she should go with SE215. The weight of Westone 1 is pretty light and can be wore comfortably . Although the sound and fitness of Westone 1 are pretty good for me, it is not a good deal for me to buy it from here. Originally I regard if I bought Westone 1 from here, I can get "extra" one year warranty as advertised but finally I am aware that the extra year is not for free. Originally I think I will get a Westone 1 with nothing different from I bought from other places and get a bonus one year warranty. But finally I found I didn't get the accessories including a hooks of travel case, 1/4 to 1/8-inch jack/plug adapter, inline volume control and four pairs of eartips which will be included if you bought from Westone directly...with the same price. The point is the "extra" year of warranty is not actually extra... The simplification in accessories didn't reflect in the price but reflect in the extra one year of warranty... I also bought a Westone 4 from here, I also found I didn't have the hook of the travel case. I can see the unboxing pictures on the internet, the Westones all come with the hooks. Westone have been on sale just for few months, I don't know how Westone removed the hook from travel case so promptly. Pros: Fitness, Balanced sound, Light weight Cons: incomplete accessories
Wei-Ming, We have exchanged several emails with you. OK, let's set this record straight. All products we sell are factory sealed. Westone, the manufacturer, stopped including the "hooks" the 1/8" adapter, some sleeves and the volume control from the Westone 1 package. We didn't. Please call Westone at 1-800-525-5071 and ask yourself. If they tell you different, please get a name and call me back. It's not true that if you buy from Westone you will get the "hooks" or any of the other accessories you listed. They are no longer included by the manufacturer. The extra 1 year of warranty IS free. For the extra year, you *MUST* purchase this product from an authorized dealer such as Earphone Solutions (Westone's largest dealer in the world), send the registration card with a copy of our invoice to Westone. Or you can simply register online. The *EXTRA* 1 year warranty is EXTRA. Out of the box, if you buy from an authorized dealer, your warranty is 1 year. The extra 1 year is free but you need to follow the steps on the previous paragraph. When you buy Westone products from eBay or Amazon your warranty is going to be ZERO years as in nil because none of those vendors are authorized dealers. No warranty will be honored by Westone if you did not buy, and prove that you did, from an authorized Westone dealer. Also when you buy from Westone you pay sales tax plus shipping, takes 2 days to ship and it goes via slow Ground shipping. When you buy from us you don't pay shipping, you don't pay sales tax (unless in Florida) and the order gets sent out the same day via Priority Mail. You are mistaken on all counts as far as the "deal" goes. When we are wrong I'm the first to apologize. In this case we are not. If you need further clarification please call me directly at 1-321-939-0228. Flavio T, CEO of this small & honest business ;)
I'm impressed to hear how good my music sounds during my running. I LOVE that they don't fall out...even on long runs. I'd listen to music on the car's MP3 input & didn't understand why the standard Apple ear plugs didn't sound the same. I researched & found the Wetstone 1 Earphones to be the best for the money...& they are great! The music & bass sounds like I'm listening in my car! I LOVE them. They actually make my running more enjoyable...definitely appreciated. Other viewers are correct when they say the bass & sound depends on fit. When I found the right ear-plug (many different ones are provided - I prefer the longer-foam one), the sound comes ALIVE. They take a few seconds to get them in my ear properly, but it's well worth the sound, fit (they DON'T move!) & keep sweat out & effecting the sound. Regarding sound, I RARELY turn up the volume on my iPod while wearing these. When I wore the standard Apple iPod earphones, I had the volume on High all the time & still couldn't hear the music like I wanted to...& when my sweat dripped into my ear, the sound got worse, or died completely. I'm truely impressed & pleased. I don't feel them at all when they're in...I only hear how amazing my music sounds...like I'm in the car. :) Pros: Sound Comfort Price Cons: Having to replace the ear-pieces.
I'm a fan of Bose. On the recommendation of friends, Westone Earphones purchased. Pretty good. The next time I want to buy 4. earphonesolutions impression. Quick response and kind. Want to buy again. Regards. Pros: Cons:
I purchased these earphones for a cross country motorcycle trip. Excellent sound and great fit. A great selection of ear plugs to use from so you can get the right fit. I have a really tight full face helmet, but I was able to slip my helmet over the earphones and ride in comfort. Sometimes the road and wind noise can get loud but you have to turn up the music, but the sound was still crisp and not distorted. These phones definitely met my expectations and more. Pros: Crisp, clear, and distinct sound, great fit in the ear. It was surround sound in my helmet. Cons: Sometimes it seemed the bass was not strong enough but I think it was due to the wind and road noise, so I turned the music up.
A good seal will increase bass response dramatically. Make sure you are using the "correct" eartips for your ear canals. Thank you!
They work.... they stay in place when i run. Pros: Cons:
My experience differed greatly from those of other customers here, which, frankly, makes me wonder whether critical reviews are being posted. I noticed Amazon reviewers gave the Westone 1's three stars, with the two of the seven reviewers giving one star. I bought these for two spplications - to wear at the gym on the Stairmaster and while weightlifting and to use in my job as a newspaper reporter to transcribe digitially recorded interviews in a noisy environments. I tried them at the gym first and was hugely disappointed after spending the most I ever have on earphones. The sound quality was tinny and flat with virtually no bass. My experience using them for work that night wasn't much better. I decided not to return them or, for that matter, post a review immediately because I was convinced user error was responsible. I went back and watched instructional CD that came in the package, tried all the different tips and really took my time trying to get the best seal possible. My package did not come with the triple-flange sleeves, so I never got to evaluate those. I settled on the largest of the foam tips, and the best performance I was ever able to get was so-so noise cancellation. From a sound standpoint, i was never able to equal the "quality" of the $20 Sony sports earphones I bought at Target or come anywhere near the Sony $79 noise-cancellation headphones I picked up at Best Buy. Last week, after covering a hockey game for the newspaper, I was using the Westone 1's to transcribe the coach's post-game comments. The coach speaks pretty low and it's difficult to hear some of the subtleties when his voice drops. At one point while trying to make out a particularly muddled sentence, I threw the Westone 1's off of my head and dug the Sony's out of my bag. The superior clarity of the Sony headphones allowed me to get the quote right. I left the arena that night with the Westone 1's buried under papers. They were gone when I returned the next day. Other than maybe a speeding ticket, I can't recall a bigger waste of $120. Pros: - The build quality appears to be pretty good - certainly better than any earphones I've owned. - The compart, hard carrying case allows for safe storage of the earphones. Cons: - Sound quality was flat and tinny, like listening to your stereo with the speaker wires crossed. - Noise cancellation was not very effective for me. I just couldn't get a consistently good seal. - Virtually no bass.
Dear Tony, We are very sorry for your experience with these. Based on your feedback I can assure you never attained a good seal. Balanced armature drivers are much more expensive and much more precise than most dynamic drivers, however the low frequency is fully dependent on a good seal and based on the fact that you did not get a good isolation, we know you did not get a good seal. High-end in-ear earphones can be a tricky product and on average require 7-10 days from new users to get them "right" in their ears and that's why we give our customers 30 days We apologize you did not have the chance to spend more time with them. In your case, the eartips PA910-Large would have solved your lack of seal / bass problem. They are made by Shure but they fit all Westone and Shure models. They are designed for wider, shallow ear canals, which I believe is your case since the eartips included address almost all types of anatomy except for wider shallow canals. We appreciate your feedback and we are sorry again it did not work for you. Please contact us if you would like to try a different model. Perhaps the new Shure SE215 which comes with newly designed dynamic drivers and deliver a ton of bass. Thank you.
This earphone offers a beautiful mid, especially human voice. I exchanged my S4i for this product knowing this offers better performance in human voice than S4i. I have to say I'm really impressed by how beautifully W1 brings out vocals and mid-ranges. W1 out of the box did pretty horrible in the lows, but it got better after 100+hours burn in. The base W1 gives is relatively weak base and lower end. I personally like it that way; it doesn't overpower singer's voice, but people who love to get pumped by base probably won't be satisfied. Pros: BEAUTIFUL vocals and mid. Durable wire. A good selection of earbud sizes. I personally love the foams. Foam earbuds offer great comfort, and isolation. Good nylon carrying case and a lot of accessories. Cons: Nothing.
I decided to spend the money on the Westone 1 Earphones because all other products I used were horrible when working out and/or running the treadmill. It is very hard to concentrate when your earphones are falling out of your ears all the time! I can't say enough about the Westone earphones. They are comfortable, firm fitting and give great sound. They haven't fallen out of my ears once! I would certainly recommend this product to anyone but certainly those who want performance and comfort when working out. Pros: Sound Comfort Reliabiity Cons:
Took a 1400 mile trip on my Harley, fit was so good the only way I knew they were on was the music playing.Earphones Solutions hit the mark for me.Have a pair of skull candy and ear phones that came with my nano touch, can't touch the quality of the Westones. Pros: Great sound!!!! Great fit. Cons: Not any cons yet. Waiting for my next trip.
Love the sound of the One's. Better then my UM1's that I love alot..These are fuller and have more bass. The only complaint is these are not made in the USA. China made these, so sad. Comes with a great case too. Pros: Cons:
I primarily use my headphones while working out. Other models I've tried have historically fallen out of my ears or the sound has been distorted by sweat in my ear (gross I know), but the Westone 1's don't fall out and they laugh at sweat! It's such a relief to finally have a great set of headphones! I highly recommend them!!!!! Pros: Fit Low profile in ear Sound quality Braided cord Cons:
I wasn't quite sure what to expect, these were my first set of armature based earphones. I only recently got into headphones and wanted something that sounded good for work. Now that these are broken in I can't get over how much detail there is, they sound every bit as good as my full size noise canceling headphones. I especially like how well they stay put, once they're on, unless I'm going to take them off, there is no problem with them staying in my ears. After I figured out which set of ear cups I liked the best I can hardly tell they're in, they are quite comfortable, block out noise very well (almost too well, sometimes I don't hear my phone ring!) I've worn them for several hours without any discomfort, I am quite impressed. Sound is fantastic, I would never have believed I could get this level of detail and accuracy from an earphone. If I had to use a single word to describe these earphones it would be natural. These earphones lack nothing. Highs are nice and clear, well defined, mids and vocals are smooth and full, everything sounds "correct". Bass is also something these little earphones are NOT lacking, I have been very impressed with the bass response. I've heard multiple headphones, earphones that were actually boomy or overly bass heavy, that is not the case here, bass is full, deep and correct. I couldn't be more happy with these, and even the price was right. I don't have any tone controls on my gear so if my headphones or speakers lack anything there is no adjusting it. I tend to just replace them. These earphones aren't going anywhere! Listening to them now in fact as I write this, for the money there is no beating them. I can't imagine how good the more expensive models must sound, maybe someday. Pros: fit cost sound quality value included hard case! included ear cup assortment what's not to like? Cons: I can't think of a single thing that I dislike about these earphones.
Great earphones, gave them as a gift to my husband, and he loves them. They fit well and are comfortable under helmets, while working out, etc and they sound great. This the second pair I've purchased as a gift for someone. Pros: comfortable sturdy cords changeable earbuds great sound Cons:
I have used these headphones daily for about a month now. These are my first pair of quality earphones. I have zero complaints. They fit securely in my ear, no mater what activity I am using them for. I use them at the gym, at work, and on the train on the way to work. I did not know my Samsung phone could sound this good. As it turns out it was due to the poor quality ear buds I was previously using. As for the fit, as many people have mentioned it takes a few tries with the wide variety of ear tips to find the right ones for you. In my case I prefer the medium silicon tips for most things and the medium foams if sound isolation is important (Flying). Also, once I found the best fit the bass became much more noticeable. I only wish that my budget would allow me to upgrade to the other Westone Models. Pros: Fit - Many options to choose from resulting in a customized fit/feel Quality - The sound produced is great Case/Accessories - Comes with a variety of ear tips and a great cary case to keep everything together. Cons: None
The first few days I've had them there wasn't any bass. They just sounded like my sony's I got with my Mp3 player. I was disappointed with the small eartips that came with these. The case is nice, but I think they're a little overpriced. They should retail for about $70. The eartips caused my ears much pain, so I had to do research and find better ones. I invested in some comply foam tips P-Version slims and could hear the bass a little better and it helped in the discomfort. If you have any suggestions on better eartips that are thick, comfy, foam, a good seal, comfortable and maybe bring these earphones up to 6.7 on the richter, I'd appreciate it. Can't use the silicone ones or the flangers...forget it. I believe somewhere out there is a eartip that fits well and who knows, maybe better eartips will improve these earphones tremendously. Other than that, these earphones definetly pick up things in songs that you never heard in the past. They provide a clear clarity.. Artists like, ELP. Led Zepplin, Kate Bush, Jethro Tull, Genesis, that I listened to for years and was famaliar with every detail, had a significant change in things I've never heard before. More modern music like Goldfrapp, Moby, Gold Panda, William Orbit, Massive Attack was very intense in back and forth balance in sound quality which enhanced their styles. I would imagine the 2's and 3's are amazing . Thanks Earphone Solutions for being fabulous. There's nothing out there like it that has so much to offer in selection, reviews, quality, customer support. etc. Thanks! Ledz Pros: clear sound quality. Cons: Low end eartips. Overpriced
Purchased specially for use with helmet. Sevres as earplug and sound. Comfort all day long! Pros: The sound quality. Cons:
I have tried several different brands of in ear headphones. The most important thing to me is the fit and the noise blocking ability. Pros: The best thing about these earphones is that they fit inside the ear. They can be worn with a hat or when laying down comfortably. Cons: The way these are made the cable is supposed to go up over the ear. I find this a little awkward.
Overall its a great earphone, but if you are someone that likes lots of bass (which I am not) these are not the earphones for you. If you are someone who likes a accurate well balanced earphones with amazing comfort (using the comply ear tips), then they are amazing! I use them for 5-6 hours a day, and my ears never hurt afterward. I have to say that I bought these on Earphone Solutions recommendation (and all the other good reviews) and I very pleased with my purchase. Pros: Great cord Awesome comfort Stay in your ears Cons:
Cable doesn't tangle. Tips to fit everyone. Carrying case. Great company to work with. Purchased additional sets for others, I liked them so much. Pros: Cons:
I had tried many different earphones that were supposed to work for people with smaller or "unusual" ear canals and none of them work. I came across the Westone 1 earphones and decided to make one more try at finding something that might work. They exceeded my expectations! In addition, Earphone Solutions service was great. On time and as advertised! Pros: The huge number of choices of ear pieces...if one set doesn't work, another will. The ability to have the earphone sit in your ear such that you can your head can lay flat, if desired. Cons: Nothing.
i didnt know what I was missing. This is my first pair of high dollar (and their not even that high) 'phones. Once i learned how to put them in and get a proper fit (directions are a wonderful thing), they sound amazing. time will tell if they last longer than those white iPod things that i go thru a couple pair a year. Pros: Sound quality is great. the fit helps reduce outside noise, increasing the listening pleasure. Cons: nothing yet
The sound from these earphones is excellent. There are many different types of ear pieces that should fit any ear. They are very comfortable. Pros: Sound and comfort Cons: Looping the cords over the ear takes some getting used to.
I was looking for a new set of "sport" earphones, with the most important requirement being that they stay in place while running, cycling, and working out. These certainly do that. They are the most comfortable earphones I have ever worn. having said that, they are way over priced. I'm sure I could have found a similar solution for half the cost. Pros: Cable does not tangle earphones stay in while running very comfortable highs sound good Cons: way over priced not enough bass
Dear Travis, make sure you are using the "correct" size of eartips for your ear canal to try and correct the lack of bass. As for the price Westone has just lowered them from $139 to $119 so these are an even better deal now.
I had stopped watching movies and listening to music, i only got this for office to block out the noise ( work in a very noisy environment). i could never believe that they could sound so good i can listen to sounds that i did not know existed - brings a new dimension to experience. Highly recommended, btw they are not made in china. Pros: sound. Cons: Wire is short, at this price it can easily be 8'' longer
Although it took a little effort to get these to fit into my ear properly, once I figured it out, they did fit snugly and comfortably. However, I was disappointed in the low range sound quality; it was as if the treble was turned up for the high notes, but the bass was turned down (although it wasn't).. I bought these to replace an old pair of Shures, and I'm still using the Shures. Pros: Fit and appearance Cons: Poor sound quality, especially in the low range - no bass
Hi Steve, We're sorry to hear you're not getting good bass from your new Westone 1. Aside from getting a good fit please make sure the eartip size is correct for your ear canal. As explained before, the seal is essential to get the bass and according to your description you may not be getting a good seal from the eatrips you are using. You should also take a look at the new Shure SE215 which has more bass due to their dynamic drivers. These new earphones are being launched March of 2011 and they only cost $99: http://www.earphonesolutions.com/shure-se215.html Thanks again for your feedback!
These present such a clear sound stage. The vocals and instrumentals shine in a song. When I listen to these I can begin to understand why Westone's were originally designed for musicians. I can hear all the different instruments. The noise isolation is also excellent. I bought these on EarphoneSolution's recommendation that they were the best in terms of sound isolation. I'm glad I took them up on their recommendation, because they do know what they are talking about. I tried them out on a plane and was so happy with the extent of the sound isolation. It made the flight so much more comfortable. Pros: Excellent clarity. Sounds live. Good bass. Cons: Putting them into position on the ear is time consuming because they go behind the ear, and you have to figure out which is for the left ear and right ear. It takes me about a minute. That's a long time. Taking them out also is time consuming.
Brilliant--noise isolation on a plane is fantastic. These earphones are the most comfortable--you can keep them in all day and night. The wires also do a much better job than Klipsch of not transmitting sounds made by rubbing and abrasion. Pros: Noise isolation Comfort Wires deaden sound transmission Cons: Nothing
Commuting on a busy train every morning will drive you crazy with the chatter all around you. The Westone 1 earphones block out the noise and deliver unreal quality. It's a different commute with these in your ears rather than the ipod earbuds. Pros: blocks out surrounding noise quality sound assorted sizes of earbud fittings Cons: ears can get a bit sore wearing them for extended periods, but I may just have to try smaller foam fittings. not noticing soreness now, after a few weeks using them.
I have used in ear noise isolating ear buds for a while, saw the great reviews on the Westone 1 and decided to try them out. Unfortunately, despite trying all types and sizes of ear tips, I was unable to seat them appropriately in my ear canals, most likely due to a combination of my anatomy and the narrow width of the Westone 1. I cannot give an honest opinion about quality of sound reproduction as I could not get good noise isolation. Pros: Cons: Couldn't seat appropriately in my ears for good sound isolation.
Dear Martin, Thanks for your review. Try the Shure PA910-Large eartips: http://www.earphonesolutions.com/shpalablfosl.html
I got these for my wife after her Bose died. I currently own the Shure SE210's. Being somewhat envious of her Westones, I snagged them from her before I went to the gym. The fit is amazing, the sound is incredible, the bass is meaty. The Westones destroy the Shure 210. Better fit, better sound, and no huge wires behind your ears. The Shures hurt my ears after an hour, but the Westones ....pain free! The only worry I would have is that if the cord goes bad at the jack, there isn't a separate section that you can replace like the Shures. No two year warranty either. If the Shure 210 goes bad after your warranty, they will replace them for about $70. I don't know if Westone would do that. All in all, excellent! Pros: Awesome fit. PRO Awesome sound. PRO Smaller wires behind your ears. PRO Cons: No replacement cord. CON No two year warranty. CON
Dear Scott, Thanks for your review. When you purchase from us and send the registration card to Westone, you do receive a 2 Year Warranty. Thanks!
I bought Westone 1 for use with a small, bedside "pocket" radio. I already own UM2's but they are basically unwearable with head on a pillow. Are these really comfortable? Lets me just report that I routinely wake up with the earphones still on (fortunately, the radio shuts itself off after an hour). I listen at night primarily to news and talk, so I was looking for basic flat audio curve, but with good treble. These satisfy that requirement absolutely. Finally, added bonus: impedance is lower than many, meaning less battery drain and more hours. And if someone is sleeping next to you, guarantee no matter how sensitive their ears, they won't hear these! In terms of comparisons, after owning about a month I compared music-wise to UM2, using flac files ripped from CD. The UM2's are better, no question. It just makes the music sound like you are hearing it live, or at least in the studio. Bass and lower register better on the UM2's. But the W 1's are close. My player (Sansa Clip) has EQ settings that help to narrow the difference between the W 1's and the UM2. However there's no question that if I was choosing which earphones to listen, carefully, to music --it would be the UM2's. Pros: -fit comfortably in the ear for bedside use. -low current drain means more battery life. -low volume means no disturbance to other sleepers. -flat audio response and good mids to highs means speech very clear. Cons: -A slightly warmer sound would be welcome from my point of view. But given I have other earphones (UM2) for music, this isn't a big problem for me. -Price a bit high for for use as radio/news accessory
I've had the headphones for over a month now and use them multiple hours a day. Disclaimer: I've never had headphones > $45 so take my review for what it is worth. They are worth it! Oh man, I'm listening to classical right now (in a quiet study area) with my laptop volume on 2, that's 2 out of 50. The in-ear-canal headphones are wonderful for noise isolation (better all-around decibel reduction than noise-cancelling), working out (I can't make these fall out!), long-term wear and comfort, and sound quality (especially treble-heavy music). Without being a sound guru I am not a good source for reliable acoustic information, but even without that knowledge these have been a completely worthwhile investment for me. Thank you so much to earphone solutions for their wonderful articles and review; dropped some knowledge bombs on me. I had never heard of Westone, so glad I came to the site. Pros: Noise-isolation Comfort, especially long term Stability Great warranty Ton of earphone tip options Cable length (just right) Protective Case Cons: Pricey (but definitely worth it for me) Getting me hooked on the good stuff!
they're ok Coming off of Ultimate Ears EB these are, well, pretty decent replacement/downgrade headphones after a couple hours of fiddling with fit Pros: Price Cons: The way they fit/feel and sound
All in all these things seem to be a good, quality pair of earphones. A major reason for going with these was that they lay flat against your ear. My last pair of Shures didn't do that and they really made my ear sore when wearing a helmet, beanie, or laying on a pillow. The Westons don't do that at all. The sound quality is nice for a single driver too. I can't speak to the longevity of them (I tend to blow through all of my gear pretty quickly) since I've only had them for a month or so, but everything else is constructed well. Pros: They lay flat against the ear. Cons: They seem fragile, but nothing has broken yet.
A characteristic of the Westones is that they look fragile but they are not. They are designed for the human ear and the cables are about the best in the industry. Thanks for the review Art!
Due to the lack of office etiquette in today's society I desperately needed a pair of headphones/ earplugs for my ipod that would block out the loud constant babbling around me. I need to wear them most of the 8 hours of the work day and all others I tried hurt my ears after a few hours. These are incredibly comfortable and I prefer the foam tips that shape right to your ear. I read reviews regarding the lack of bass but it isn't an issue for me. i don't need to "rock out" at work... besides the volume is plenty with the great sound barrier they make. I have only had them for a month or so so we shall see how they hold up. For my situation comfort is the key factor. Pros: very comfy streamline to your head easy to wear Cons: a bit pricey
I was upgrading form $20 earphones and was skeptical of spending so much on earphones. While I have no other high-end earphones to compare these too, these earphones are excellent. They really have great sound quality and as long, as you choose the right bud for your year (they have 10 sizes in the pack, chances are you will find one that fits well) , they do eliminate a lot of noise. The only complaint I have about the earphone is that they are little cumbersome to put on. You have put it in the right position and then, put the wire behind your ears. Also, listening for a long time gives me a dizzy feeling that is similar to air block you feel just before an airplane landing Pros: Great sound Excellent build quality Good cord texture Options for bud sizes Classy look Cons: Can be messy when first putting on Long listening can be a little uncomfortable Needs larger sign to differentiate between left and right ear buds
Thanks for the detailed review!
Two years ago I bought a pair of shure 210 earphones and really liked em. So when my wife borrowed them and lost em I decided to try Earphone Solutions. I had used their site to research what earphones to buy in the past but had never purchased anything. Earphone solutions rated the Westone earphones so highly I decided to give the Westone 1's a try and received the Earphones within 4 days during the busiest days of the Christmas shopping season. The earphones are the most comfortable I have ever had and the sound is better than the Shures, once I figured out the best tips for me. I liked em so much I bought a pair for my wife and sold her noise canceling Bose headphones. Now I wonder if I should have bought the dual or or triple drivers although its hard for me to believe they would be that much better than the Westone 1's! Pros: comfort and sound quality Cons: nothing
I was looking for a comfortable earphone with good noise cancellation. I'm don't listen to music as much ad I used to, but wanted to an earphone to stimulate my listening again both relaxing and during running. I read numerous reviews and bought a couple of cheaper models before taking the plunge one westone. I have one regret - I wish I had taken the plunge earlier. For me they are very comfortable. I have several ear operations (tympanoplasty and more recently had my right malleus replaced by prosthetic). These earphones are comfortable on my ears and produce a sound that is of excellent quality. The excellent noise cancellation also means I do not have to maximize volume at the cost ofmy hearing. I have mostly used them so far with my iPod shuffle andI am very happy with the sound quality, build and robustness. Pros: Cons:
I didn't really care for these earbuds at all. The music seemed so limited; no bass or depth at all. I tried a couple of different earpieces, but that didn't do the trick. The only way to get a somewhat decent sound was to push them so far in my ears that it hurt and felt dangerous. Even then I wasn't that impressed with the sound. Maybe I still wasn't fitting them correctly, because there's no way they could have gotten such a high consumer review with such lifeless sound that I experienced, but really -- if it's that hard to surgically fit them in, it's not for me. Instead, I got Bose IE3 earbuds which sound great & full, have comfy ear fittings that keep them in place, I don't have to embed them unusually deeply in my ears, and they cost less, too. Pros: Cons:
Hi Scott, I also own the Bose IE3 and the Westone 1 is so far superior to them that it's almost impossible to compare. The Westone 1 feature balanced armature drivers which are many times more costly than the inexpensive Bose dynamic drivers, however, as you might have read from other customers, balanced armature drivers do not move air and for that reason, fit is essential for a good bass. You should not have to push them too far in but find the right size of eartips so that the bass can be delivered the way it's supposed to. On average you need at least 4-5 days to get that. Out of the box they will not deliver bass but they will sound amazing after that period.
This was a Christmas present to my daughter who is a music afficionado. Her ears are smaller so the variety of attachments helped make the listening experience fantastic. The detailed quality of the product was outstanding, not to mention the sound. It makes me want to listen to the Westone 2 for the difference. Shipment was fast and easy, web ordering was a breeze. I'll definately be back when I save my money for the upgrades. Her birthday is coming up soon. Pros: Carrying case Excellent sound Quality of workmanship Varying ear pieces for exact fit Cons: Price but well worth it
I'm not a very knowledgeable audiophile, but if you're looking for a pair of headphones that sound good and will definitely stay put while jogging/biking/poll-vaulting/hop-scotching or during whatever your preferred method of exercise entails, these little babies will get the job done. I haven't tried the Westone 2's or 3's and my understanding is that those models really bring the impressive sound for the die-hard audio nuts, but at that point you're spending close to $300 and that's a lot -especially if you plan on exposing them to the wear and tear of strenuous exercise. In short, there's probably some better headphones out there but if you just want to get down to rockin' your socks off during the morning run without breaking the bank, these are probably for you. Just be careful in crowded areas because these units have a habit of canceling out noise like traffic, so always look both ways. Pros: Good fit Lots of accessory ear pieces Stay in place during jarring exercise like jogging Cord from earphones reaches comfortably from head to pocket with ipod/mp3 without a lot of excess Cons: Maybe not the best sound quality
I purchased the Westone 1s for a long-hual trip to Taiwan a few weeks ago. They lasted nicely thru the 23 hours of travel from NYC to Taipei, keeping out alot of that engine noise and the flight staff. Unfortuantely, during the return trip, the Inline volume control seems like it had a meltdown and one of the earbuds no longer works. I had to use the cheap airline headset for the remainder of the 16 hrs. I am currently emailing with the company to find out my options, but I am really dissapointed to find a defect mid-flight. Pros: Excellent sound for the price, comfortable Cons: thin wire, and prossible defective volume control & earbud

I play keyboards and sing in a variety dance band and have recently switched to using these in ears instead of monitor speakers. Overall I'm very happy as these sound good and are a LOT easier to move around than heavy and bulky monitor speakers. I frequently had problems hearing what I wanted to hear when using speakers. The in ears seem to have corrected that problem for me. The only problem I have with using them is that I sometimes feel isolated from what's happening on the room. I had a guy attempt to make a request and I could not hear him:) Pros: They sound good and are light and easy to use Cons: I found that the right and left buds are not marked as the manual suggests. An extension cable will be required if you plan to use these in a band
I surfed several websites reviewing ear bud type headsets, I enjoy listening to you tube as well as other audio devices. I have always used inexpensive ear buds and, well, was relagated to average sound reproduction. Being a child of the sixties and seventies, remembering rock played through verty large free standing speakers, I yearned for that "big sound", of coarse, on a budget. These Westone 1 earphones are brilliant! They fit securely, comfortably, and isolate your ears from intruding noise while reproducing music with clarity and precision. Nice bass, I would recommend !!!! Pros: comfort, sound reproduction, price verses quality Cons: nada so far
Good sound, comfortable, decent price- what's not to like? Pros: All-night comfort Cons: Could use slightly more bottom, but that's quibbling
I bought these as a Christmas gift for my son for his iPod. I based my purchase solely on the basis of the reviews of the Earphones Solutions website and their review was spot on! My son loves them, thinks they're great! They're comfortable and he can hear every nuance of the music. He's a musician so that was a huge feature for him. He says he couldn't have picked a set of earphones if he chose them himself! Pros: Comfort, ability to hear every nuance of the music Cons:
I couldn't wait to hear these earphones while playing MOH on my Xbox360! I connected online and started up the game only to be GREATLY DISSAPPOINTED! For the price paid for these, I was shocked at how weak and "trebly" with absolutely a total LACK of bass they sounded! I based my purchase mostly on the reviews from prior buyers; bad mistake. I do not recommend these earphones! Pros: Nice selection of different sized tips. The case and cleaning tool are very nice also! Cons: Lack of bass, too much treble no matter how much you adjust the settings on whatever device you're hooking up to....
Good Bass = Good Fit That takes 4-5 days on average and a little bit of patience since you are trying to match your ear canal anatomy with the "right" size, material and shape of eartips. Once you get the "right" eartips for your own ears (some people use different sizes on each ear canal -- just to show everyone's different) you will get plenty of bass. The only returns we have are from customers that want to send them back on the day they receive them. Customers that wait and try the different eartips, the return rate is close to zero. I can guarantee you, there is plenty of bass coming from these earphones, but you need to "find" the "correct" eartips among the ones shipped with this product. Once you do that, you will be surprised with the bass. Thank you for the feedback.
I purchased the UM-2's about a year ago and wear them almost everyday for at least 4hrs. They are so comfortable that you could wear them all day. My son is always bugging me for some new headphones so I purchased him these since they are smaller and lighter. He wanted over the ear headphones because he doesn't like the other inear models he tried. He loves these and says he can't believe the sound and how they fit. Pros: Great fit Light weight Great sound for a single driver Cons: Comply tips get dirty to fast I find the black Sure tips better
My Westone 1 earphones are smaller and easier to put in the ears than the UM1 that I had. The bass is excellent and the sound separation more distinct. No fear of falling out of ears when working out at the gym. Great choices of tips for every ear size. Pros: Great sound Cons: Marking showing L/R ear too small
I bought these to replace my Shure 3c's, which have developed a slight short near the jack. I didn't really need to replace them, but I was looking for an excuse to get the Westone's. Comfort: When they arrived, I used the Westone's exclusively for 2 weeks. I didn't want to compare them to the Shure's until after the "burn in" period. After two weeks, I used the Shure's again, or at least I tried. I'd always considered the Shure's to be comfortable, but they sure didn't seem comfortable after I'd gotten used to the Westone's! It wasn't just that I couldn't lie on my side; they actually bothered my ears. The Westone's feel like they're custom fit. I love being able to use them while falling asleep (I'm a side-sleeper). Sound: I also feel that the Westone's sound a little bit better than the Shure's, with a little more punch, or clarity, or sparkle... something. It's an incremental improvement, however, which is probably to be expected since the two are in the same price range. Their ability to block outside sounds is also excellent, even a little better than the Shure's. With the Westone's I have to lower the volume setting on my iPod, too. In fact, for the first time, I've wished the iPod had a lower volume setting. Classical and rock both sound great. I can hear the opening notes of Ravel's Bolero (very quiet), Vivaldi sounds so clear that I can hear the bows on the strings, Pink Floyd, Santana, Extreme... it sounds great, everything has just a little more depth to it. When I first got them, I thought they needed a bit more bass, but I'm not sure that's right. Other: The within-ear design of the Westone's did require me to re-learn how to take them out of my ears. The instructions say to avoid pulling on the wires, so I had to learn how to grab the body, which requires a different motion than earbuds that stick out of the ear. Being able to remove at least one of them quickly is important, because they block so much sound that you have little warning when someone speaks to you, even at low volumes. I would never, ever, use these when being able to hear is critical to your safety. I'm pleased with the Westone 1's. I'd like to try the 2's or the 3's someday, but they're not in my budget right now. Pros: Comfort Sound Noise-blocking Cons:
Thanks for the excellent review Carla!
I was excited at the thought of great sound and isolation. The sound was good (except the base) and I heard percussion I had been missing. But I could not get comfortable with them. Life is too short to cut this try that especially when if I cut and made it worse I could not put back what I the cut off . The USA is many miles from the UK so I could not just drop by for help so I gave up. If I was every to buy IEM again I would go for custom fit ones. Pros: Possible to rest ones head on a pillow with them in the ear Cons: Could not get comfortable with them. Paying so much for them, international shipping and then paying £27 duty on top of everything else.
We apologize for the inconvenience. As you know, the duty is charged by your country's government and we have no control over that. If you get the right fit by using the "right" eartips for your anatomy, you will get plenty of bass. Please visit this page for more help: http://www.earphonesolutions.com/important.html Thank you.
To whom it may Concern, I love the earphones. I am currently in Iraq and got told about these earphones from a friend of mine. I was tired of always breaking mine and having them fall out of ears while exercising. I no longer have these issues due to the ear piece. It provides great sound while at the same time blocking other sounds from coming in. I can easily say that they compare to the BOSE earphones sold. I had a pair of them as well but they always fell out of your ears as well. I like not having to worry about them falling out of your ears. I would recommend these to anyone that has an active live style. SSG Larrea, Reainhard U.S. Army CBRN NCOIC "Failure is not an option" Pros: The ear foam is a great idea/might suggest making out of a material that can be cleaned. Cancels out sounds around you with no added use of battery life/I cannot talk to people at the gym now. These headphones will not fall out of your ears/have to be careful in removing them from your ears Cons: So far there is nothing that I do not like about them.
Thanks SSG Larrea, Reainhard for the great review!
I'm not an audiophile, but the sound is very comparable to my Shure SE110 ear buds. The sound is excellent with either pair, and unless I'm switching back and forth to compare, I really can't tell a difference. The Westone midrange seems to be a bit fuller. I think the Shure bass is a bit better. I really like the Westone's low profile, but I like the Shure inserts better. Pros: I like the very thin and flexible cable and the inline volume control. I also like the very low profile of the buds when they are inserted in your ears. Cons: I wish that the buds were clearly marked L and R. I have to stare at the logo and think about which side si which every time I put them on even after using them for several weeks. If they are marked L and R, I can't find them or it is too small for my middle-aged eyes.
Thanks for the review. A great way to determine which is right and which is left is to grab the earpiece with your right hand with the cables going up. If the eartip / nozzle is pointing left (towards you), that's the right earpiece. Hope that sounded more helpful than confusing... :)
Wow. It's hard to believe these are considered "entry-level" headphones for Westone. They're absolutely amazing. I bought these about a week ago and have been using them every time I walk to class since. There was no breaking in the fit or "burn-in" period on the speakers for me. Straight out of the box they played me a "Stairway to Heaven" that absolutely gave me goosebumps (which is saying something, because I've heard that on some very nice speakers before). If the sound quality has gotten any better in the week since, I haven't noticed because it was already so good. Be careful - the noise isolation on these will cause you to inadvertently ignore your friends ;-). I drive a fairly good-size truck, and one day I walked to it wearing these, turned the key, and could only tell it had started from feeling the rumble. Nothing got past the Westone 1s. I had none of the problems that other people mentioned with weak bass or a poor fit - I don't see how anybody could get a poor fit with these. It seriously comes with like 15 different types of fittings from hardish plastic, soft plastic, a triple-flange fitting in soft plastic, and (my favorite) large, medium, and small foam. In my opinion, if you didn't like the fit of these earbuds, you didn't spend enough time trying all the different fittings. And once you get the fit right, the bass sounds incredible on everything from the thick beats of hip-hop to the smooth humm of bluesy rock. (Of course, the often-underappreciated mid tones and treble tones are great as well). Also, one thing that I didn't know when I bought them, they come with a 1/4"- to - 3.5mm adapter so you can plug them to the output of an amplifier - incredibly useful for when I practice playing guitar on my college student schedule and the neighbors are trying to sleep. These adapters aren't much to just go out and buy, but it was a nice surprise. Pros: Comfort. Sound quality. Complete lack of cord noise. Secure fit in your ears, esp. when running. Cons: I hate to be the guy that says "nothing omg buy them now!!!" but I honestly cannot think of anything to dislike about them.
Thanks for the review Jacob.
I purchased these to replace my full-size, sound isolating headphones because....let's face it....it's just impossible to look cool on stage with big, bulky headphones. I play at ear-damaging levels, so sound isolation is the most important feature to me, and these exceeded my expectations in this regard. Be patient, read the directions, and experiment with the included tips - there are like 4 different types/styles - in all different sizes. Replacement tips are also readily available. I have been using the medium sized "memory foam" tips which are extremely comfortable for extended (3+ hours) of continuous wear. These are very well engineered with a heavy duty no-tangle cord, behind-the-ear cord routing, handy crush-proof case, in-line volume attachment, and a generous warranty. For the price point, the sound is good - but not great. Again, read the directions and experiment with the different tips. If they are not seated properly, the bass response will be diminished. My primary use for these is to be able to hear myself and my other bandmates without going deaf - and for this they excel in their performance. Sound isolation is superb - almost TOO good with the triple-flange tips. If I were using these primary for listening to MP3s, I would go for the Westone 2s or 3s. More drivers = better sound Pros: SOUND ISOLATION, comfort, not looking like a dork, engineering, Westone quality. Cons: Overall, single-driver sound.
Thanks for the excellent review Mark.
i use these while i run on the treadmill. you do have to wiggle them around in your ear to make sure you get a good seal. if you just insert them they will sound hollow. you have to move them around till you hear the bass then the seal is good. they stay flush with my ear and do not stick out. i had the um1's for 2 years they broke so i upgraded to these. im very happy with them. the only thing is when i sweat a lot one will start to come out of my ear. thats why i gave 4 stars instead of 5. but over all i love them. Pros: they are flush with my ear. the sound is clear. and they stay in while i run. Cons: when i sweat a lot one will always pop out.
Hi Yvonne, thanks for the review. Some eartip material will "stick" more in the ear when you are sweating. I'd say try the Yellow Foams. They are more porous. I don't like them because they feel rough in my skin and I don't sweat too much in the head when exercising. Maybe I should be working out harder :) Thanks again for your contribution to our community of joggers and gym rats at Earphone Solutions.
Just received the Westone 1's. The fit is exactly as advertised and the sound is better than I expected. Outside sound is silenced and you almost forget you have earphones in your ears. The comfort is incredible. Very happy and satisfied with my purchase of the Westone 1's. Pros: Good Fit, good comfort and good sounding earphones. Seals out external sounds. Cons: Nothing yet.
I'm deployed in Iraq and I just received my W1's and immediately tried them on without messing around with different ear fittings. I was amazed at the clarity and richness these little babies produced. The bass was just right for me. Needless to say after listening to them I bought my wife the same pair! I can finally enjoy music the way it should be heard. I'm a gym rat and gave them a good test on the treadmill and they stayed inside my ear with no discomfort. Simply Amazing!! I am looking forward to trying out the W2's and W3's. By chance do you offer military discounts? Pros: Cons:
Hi Joe, We ship FREE to APO addresses via Priority Mail to all our customers that are deployed We also offer free shipping for orders of $49 or more with coupon code FREE. Thanks for the review and stay safe! ;)
I didn't imagine that i would want to pay over $100 for little earphones to use with my iPod, but I am so glad that I did. The quality is excellent, they come with a variety of different fittings to ensure that there is a perfect fit for your individually shaped ear. The ones I chose are so comfortable that I can even wear them in bed! The sound quality is excellent, and as a classical musician need to hear a balanced sound. As I live in Mexico, finding products such as these is difficult, but as Earphone Solutions have International Shipping this is no problem. Pros: Cons:
Before I got my Westone 1 I always went for low price earphones at around 20-30$ and they seemed to be sufficient for playing my ipod music. However, as soon as I had the chance to listen to high quality earphones I realized what a great difference it makes. When I got my Westone 1 Earphones I was really amazed, I quickly found the inserts that fit my ear perfectly and the noise isolation is just excellent, I sit in the tube and don't hear any noises whatsoever. The sound is just great and since it blocks outside noises so well, I don't have to turn up the volume so much (only about 2/3 when I compare to the old cheaper earphones), which I guess is good for the ear. The only thing that made me hesitate whether to buy them was the high price, but in the end they are worth it. Pros: Great sound Excellent noise isolation/cancellation Perfect fit Very light and good for sports Cons: After all, still quite expensive
If you're on the fence about these, you won't be disappointed! I wasn't sure I wanted to try a $100+ set of earphones, but having gone through several cheaper brands with poor results I decided to take the plunge. And wow, what a difference it made! I like to ride motorcycle with my headsets in, and I wanted something that would give good sound isolation to road and wind noise. I was able to put the earphones in in my house, adjust them to a comfortable audio level, then jump on my bike and run 65mph without even having to turn up the volume! I mowed the lawn with them in and could not even hear my mower! And as far as the complaints of weak bass, they either don't have them in properly or are running on a device that isn't putting out the bass because I felt the low ends were great. you just have to make sure you select the plugs that give a good, tight fit in your ear and all the ranges come in crystal clear. Pros: Great sound isolation comfort excellent fit adjustable strap keeps wires tamed Cons: nothing
I use the headphones for the gym and they do a great job of isolating the music so I can tune out whatever garbage the gym is playing. They also don't slip out of my ears (too much) compared to headphones I've tried in the past. By far the biggest weakness for these headphones is the bass. Some songs sound distorted with the bass turned up a bit, but sound normal on my home headphones (bose). The bass isn't as strong as I'd like and I've tried all the fitments and am going with the largest earplugs avail. Maybe I need to go with the higher end models to get the bass I like. Other than that these are great headphones for exercising or outdoor use. I've been using them for about 3 weeks now. Pros: Fitment Sound isolation Gym use Cons: Distorted/weak bass
Thanks Jeff. Please make sure you turn off the iPod EQ preset as that will cause these higher-end balanced armature drivers to distort the sound sometimes, due to their increased sensibility.
I was skeptical at best. My ears have an odd shape and in-ear earphones usually don't work for me. Based on Earphone Solutions advise I decided to try one last time. Earphone Solutions was absolutely correct these are comfortable and the sound is amazing. I've been able to turn down my MP3 player because the sound quality is that much better than my old pair. Fantastic sound quality for a reasonable price. Had I known they were this good I would have bought the 2's! My only complaint is that the left bud stopped working and I've only been using them 2 weeks. Very disappointing I was REALLY enjoying them, especially on long runs Pros: Fit, sound quality, value Cons: left bud stopped working within 2 weeks

I have a hearing loss in both ears. So I figured I would have to upgrade from the standard Apple earphones supplied with the iPod Nano 5th generation. What a big difference in performance in that I could hear the high notes much clearer. My hearing loss is in the high frequency range. Pros: The extra ear pieces supplied with the earphone. I just read a earphone review in the San Jose Mercury news and either the wires were too short or not enough ear pieces were included. One earphone was in the $300 range and the wires were thin and prone too tangle. Cons: None that I can think of right now.
After trying 6 different types of earphones I had pretty much given up trying to listen to my iPod while riding my Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Not that I don't love the sound of my bike - but on long trips I really wanted something else to hear besides the pipes and the wind. After reading the customer reviews of the Westone 1 Earphones, I hesitantly laid out the sum of $139.00 for a last chance try all the while expecting to be disappointed once again.... I was astounded when they were delivered to my door the very next morning!! I don't know how you guys did it but the shipping time was unbelievable... I swear your company must have an employee living next door and he dropped them off on his way home! ha ha ha! So - I opened them up, tried them on - got a great fit immediately, and then decided to do a road test... and I was amazed - I can actually hear my music while on my bike and travelling at 110Kph!! Furthermore, they cut the wind noise AND I can have a conversation with someone after turning the volume down and not have to take the earphones out! Additionally the inline volume control is a god-send - non-distracting quick volume control is a must for riding! Love this option! Exceptional product - exceptional delivery time, and now that I have them - worth every penny! Thanks Pros: Excellent all round! Cons:
Thanks for the great testimonial! I wear a full face Shoei helmet and have not been able to find anything more comfortable than the Westone 1.
Took some experimenting to find the right tips. The one that worked for my old E3's didn't work well but when I fitted the triple flange silicone to them, WOW. Great bass and over all sound. Pros: Cons:
Thank you Scott. The triple flange eartip is loved by many users but as everything that needs to match your anatomy, this will be a very personal preference. We're glad you found your perfect match!
After creeping up the price point ladder for earphones (starting at around $65) I was finally able to stop with the Westone 1 earphones. The sound quality is excellent and I can't hear anything but the music. People in my office have to shake my chair to get my attention! Light years ahead of anything else I tried under $100. Well worth the price. Pros: Cons:
Needs a bit of burning in, but it's sounds great after a while. Balance is good, the highs are a bit muffled at the beginning, but fine after burn in. Tons of inserts to find the perfect fit, I found mine. Pros: Weight is perfect, very light. Comfort. Nice sized case. Cons: I'd rather have a "fixed volume" volume reduced than a variable one, but it's still great with a laptop or on a plane.
I have tried and spent much money on all kinds of head phones to wear on my runs. The Westones are by far the best! The sound quality is great and the fit is just perfect. They don't fall out of your ear, you don't need to adjust them and it is almost completely drowning out other noises (which means that when you do use them for running outdoors you need to be extra careful for traffic). I could not be happier with them. Pros: Cons:
I bought the Westone 1 Earphones because we will be making several long-distance plane flights in the near future. My wife was the first to test them the first week after we received the phones. On a couple of three-hour flights she was very satisfied with the phones. They significantly reduced both plane and passenger noise. My first experience with the phones was on a motorcycle trip. The benefit of ear protection is one of the first things that I discovered in traveling on a bike. Even the cheap foam earplugs that can be bought at a drugstore help to reduce the wind, road and motor noise that really make you tired when riding. With the Westone 1 phones I used the foam pads and they worked perfectly. Not only did I have the ear protection, I was also able to plug into my iPhone to listen to music as I rode. At the same time this did not interfere with being alert to traffic around me. I will definitely be purchasing another pair of these phones in preparation for our upcoming travel. Pros: Very comfortable with lots of options for keeping the phones in place in the ear Cons: Nothing to dislike that I've found.
Dear Sam, thanks for the great testimonial. To all other readers, please make sure it's legal (and safe for you) to ride your motorcycle with in-ear earphones in your state / country.
I just received my new Westone 1 earphones and am delighted with them already. The sound quality absolutely kills my other earphones using the foam eartips installed at the factory even with the sound level turned down, they were easy to insert and they stay put. Very comfortable also. I may try some different eartips at some point, but right now I don't think it's necessary, either from a sound standpoint or for comfort. This is way more money than I've ever spent on earphones before, but after hearing the result, it was worth it. Pros: Cons:
I bought these ear buds because i wanted to fall asleep to environment sounds stored on my iTouch. I'm a side-sleeper, so I needed something that was comfortable in my ear while I was lying on it. These are absolutely ideal. They come with a small bag of many different tips to use--foam and different-shaped soft rubber (? Not sure what they are made of, very flexible). It's summer here in Florida and we run a noisy room AC unit at night. I was amazed at the noise-canceling ability of these little ear buds! This set allows me to fall asleep hearing only crickets or a creek or whatever environment I want to be in, with no unwanted room noises at all. I can't comment on bass reproduction since I am not using them for music, but I can say that the clarity is amazing, and the comfort level can't be beat. Pros: Comfort, many tip types to choose from, noise cancellation Cons: Nothing!
Thanks fellow Floridian! We know summer in Florida :)
OK, I just received my Westone 1 earphones and used them on a 160 mile motorcycle ride from Hollywood to Sanibel Island Fla. I used the small foam tip in one ear and the large one in the other (I never knew my ears were different sizes before). The music from my IPOD was clear, clean, and plenty loud, and better yet I never had the feeling that the earphones were coming out. It was still a comfortable fit at the end of the ride. Don't get me wrong. I love the sound of my Hardcrome shorty pipes but this was a boring 2 1/2 hour ride over completly flat terrain. My normal ride would have been plenty of wind and very loud pipes. Instead I had a playlist of CCR, Molly Hatchet, Alman Brothers, ZZ Top, Outlaws, and Blackfoot. The trick is to put together a playlist of great crusin' music long enough for your ride. You don't want to mess with anything on the IPOD while you're riding. Besides you can hear the sound of your bike between songs. My bike never sounded better! Pros: fit and sound clarity Cons: never thought I'd pay that much for earphones but I'm glad I did.
I have used these and the Westone 2 under a full face Shoei helmet and it completely changed my riding experience. You just need to be extra careful with the traffic and not let the music distract you. Also make sure you check with your local authorities if it's legal in your area to wear earphones while riding a motorcycle. But it can definitely be super joyful experience.
I ride the NY subway and only listen to pod casts. If it were music it wouldn't really matter if you couldn't hear well during the whole trip, but missing parts of a conversation is really annoying. These headphones are fantastic. I've been able to turn the volume down by half and I can hear every word throughout my commute. I kept on the ear pieces that were on when it arrived (there are many options provided in a separate case) I'd describe these earphones more as ear plugs with speakers. Squeeze the plug and it expands nicely in the ear. It did take me a while to get used to putting them on. I definitely found that tricky at first. But now I'm used to them it isn't a problem at all. You can still hear the station announcements and background noises but the noise is dulled enough not to interrupt your listening. When I take these earphones off I can't believe how loud the NY subway is. Pros: Great for dulling the very loud noise of the NY subway. Cons:
Thanks for the review! Commuting is a great way to use these high end earphones due to the isolation and sound quality they provide and the comfort on the Westone 1 is pretty much unbeatable.
I had previously owned a custom molded set of headphones from a company called (not real name) "giant ears". They sounded good but even being molded to my ears, they did quite seal all external noises well....I ride a motorcycle. I got these, which were way cheaper, and though I bought the lowest end model, they sound excellent. They come with many different ear pieces and I found a set that makes it so quiet, that I can ride at 70mph on my loud Harley with the wind blowing and still have my iPod on normal volume, saving my ears. Simply elegant! I wish I had know about these before. Great sound, great price, great listening experience! Pros: great sound for the price, excellent ear tip variety Cons: Difficult at first to get them into my ear just right (it may be just my ears), but now it's easy.
It usually takes 7-15 days to get a good fit from in-ear earphones so it's very common to have some difficulties in the beginning.
Initially I loved these headphones. They were comfortable, had great sound, and good noise isolating capability. 2 months later, they broke. I have never broken a pair of headphones before. They just stopped playing back certain levels of sound. When it first happened I was watching a movie on my ipod and I thought something was wrong with the audio syncing or something. Then I was listening to music and it sounded distorted and far away, so I thought my ipod was running out of batteries or something. Finally I tried to put the other earphone attachment tips on them and still no change. At last I tried my other original ipod headphones and found out my headphones were dying a slow death.... Pros: comfort, choice of different tips, volume control capablity Cons: did not last more than 3 months, the volume control capability adds too much weight for my ipod shuffle.
Dear Debbi, We are very sorry about this inconvenience. It's very rare that this model would fail, much less within only 3 months. We believe this was an unfortunate case of bad luck. Nonetheless they are fully covered under warranty for full 2 years (after you send the registration card) and a replacement was Overnighted to you at no charge. Again, please accept our apologies for this inconvenience. Thank you.
Bought these based on excellent reviews. They were all correct. Sound is very good, not great. Comments about how the sound gets "better" I have not found to be true. Key thing is, they stay in when you're running or exercising and the cord orientation (down your back rather than front) is really nice. Pros: Cons:
It fits very well and the sound quality is good. Pros: Cons:
Just got these baby thirty minutes ago. I'm not very happy about it right now... Forgot to bring my Ipod Touch from home.... But i have nothing against these ear phones at the moment. Soon as I put them on it was a perfect fit. So comfortable and the sound is ok right now. Using it on my Droid now and they do sound great and if they sound better on my Ipod i'll be more happy.. My co-workers could not believe i just spent $139.00 on ear phones but after they put them on they we're sold. They gave me the" Are you #$%^ing crazy" look at first. They all use the stock earphones for their ipods. Well since i only had them for less than an hour, I will post another review later on. Pros: Build quality. Keeps outside noise out. Very confortable. Cons: nothing yet.
I bought this product after reading reviews on many sites. MANY reviews mentioned the lack of bass but otherwise good sound. They also said not worth the cost and can get similar or better sound for cheaper. I thought people were being too hard on the product and too picky as many people who review products tend to be. I ordered the earphones. I got a great seal and immediately noticed the lack of bass. I had to set my ipod and iphone equalizer to bass boost. This made some of the bass sound like a blown subwoofer. Even still it was not what I was hoping for or expected. I was really disappointed in overall sound for the price. I guess I expected a more well rounded product (silly me). I returned this and upgraded to the Westone 2 (after $100 more...yuck). I'm hoping to get my moneys worth out of that. Also I noticed that when working out I got sweat around the outer earpiece which makes for a weird feeling around the ear (no sweat got in ear however). They stay very secure in the ear. In regards to the cords over the ears...I found this a non issue and I'm VERY picky about the way things feel!! If you really don't like bass this is a great headphone for you. My parents (60's) would love these. Before buying really give the reviews some credibility. I wish I had and could have saved some money (not getting "free" shipping when you return an item...they deduct your "free" shipping on original purchase if you return an item even if you upgrade...this still doesn't make sense to me...person on phone's excuse was "we still have to pay for the shipping even though it's free"....shouldn't matter whether I return it or not.....and I still have to pay to send it back) Pros: Fit Cons: Bass, overall sound for the $
In-ear headphones with balanced armature drivers, such as these, bass is a direct response of the seal and a person cannot get a good seal out of the box. On average, customers will need 1-2 weeks to get a good seal. Why? Because everyone's ear canals are different. Different size, shape, shallow, deep, etc. Like a fingerprint, there are no 2 identical ear canals -- even your right from your left are different and many customers will benefit from different eartips on each ear. Working and trying the different eartips is fundamental to get the best sound these can produce and my Westone 1 delivers plenty of bass. But you will need a bit of patience in the beginning. It's a one time process. Of course the dual driver version will deliver more bass, since it has a dedicated driver to handle that frequency range but seal will continue to be fundamental to achieve good bass.
I ride a 2007 Harley Road King (custom pipes) both with and without helmet and these earphones are the best. I have tried others, even got a pair of Bose for Christmas but they do not stay embedded in ear like these. I hear the music on my iPhone very clearly with minimal wind noise even when riding without a helmet or with a half helmet. I put unit in breast pocket of jacket or back pocket. with the cord going down the back of my neck. Be sure to wear them over a period of 5 days and the earphone seal will become better and better. Do do not let anyone else try them or they may screw up the fit for you.. I used the plugs that were on them when they cam and may try the beehive ones because of a review I read by another rider.. However, reluctant to screw up a good thing. In sum, great sound and they stay put in your ears. Pros: The sound is great and they stay in your ears. Cons:
these head phones jam out and are really comfortable. i have had bose and shure head phones these are by far worth the money Pros: Cons:
After break in...which it definitely needs...the mids and highs are just fine..I find it lacking in the base area..I did try many tips to get the best seal..which really helps..my other buds are e-530's..I probably should have got the westone 3's for more base.... Pros: The cord is wonderful as well as the comfort and fit The mids and highs are fine Cons: They lack enough base response for my taste
So far so good. Excellent noise exclusion. Good sound Pros: Cons:
i wish i could afford to upgrade, besides the bass that you eventually circonvent by adjusting your ear tips,i just can t imagine what the more expensive one would sound like Pros: mids and balance between high frequencies and mid ones Cons: bass that s a little hard to adjust
Westone 1 are awesome headphones. They are super comfortable. Great in the gym as they hang down the back of your head and therefore do not interfere with arm movements. Great when travelling on planes as they block at a significant amount of noise and I play relaxation music and can hear it perfectly without being distracted by the plane noise. They are great for exercise, there is absolutely no noise created by movement of the cord, this is a major plus compared to other models that have severe cord rustle (Sennheiser for example!) Overall, the sound quality is good. I will definitely be buying other models when the time arises. Pros: Sound isolation is awesome. No cord rustle Cons:
Great points Mark. I find the same thing at the gym where my arms are always free and no cords are in the way.
Its very comfortable and well made, im lovin it! lucky to find this website, good service nice product and price. thanks! Pros: the quality in sound and struture many acessories included Cons: i like heavy metal and this earphone isnt the better for this kind of music :p
I am still trying to make up my mind about these earphones. My last two sets of earphones were Shure, both had great sound but fit and comfort were lacking. When evaluating the Westone headphones I was not sure if I should buy the Westone 1 or Westone 2 and think I may have made the wrong choice. I am not a person who is trained in the language necessary to describe what is wrong, but a number of songs that I listen to frequently just sound "off". Pros: Fit and Comfrot. Cons:
Well built with good quality wires. The variety of different shaped ear foams is a good idea. I ended up using two different size foams for left and right ears; it took some time. It also took some time for the earphones to "break in" and give their best sound (normal for audio products.) The Westone 1 is comfortable and sound was better than the standard Apple (free) earphone. Apple deserves credit for good earphones. The Westone 1 was not amazingly better, Still, it was well worth the money. Pros: See above Cons: See above
Hi Fred, Thanks for the review. I will bet with you that 10 days from now you will find the Westone 1 amazingly better than the Apple earphones :)) Balanced armature driver earphones will never sound their best in the first few days. Let us know if you need any help.
I am a skeptic. I have owned several sets of in-ear produscts in the past (including Bose, Sony noise cancelling, and others). I travel by plane and motorcycle and these earphones are simply amazing. They are comfortable, have a wide range of included earpieces, have a great tangle-free cord, and best of all, they work even better inside a helmet. Pros: In-ear fit, completely occlusive foam earpieces (freakishly isolating), great sound quality, amazing price, cool carrying case. Cons: Nothing.
Took a while to get the right ear plug size , but once found they sound great . Pros: Great for the gym Cons: none
definitely better than Bose in earphone.. but the volume control cord was not functioning and returned the cord to factory for repair. 1 week later i receive a fixed one =) excellent service and quality Pros: Cons:
So I purchased Westone 1 Earphones based solely on the recommendations on this site. Before stumbling across this site, I'd never even heard of the brand. Initially, I thought I'd been had. The bass was practically non-existent and there was no thick, rich sound. I tried every single one the the earpieces and found the biggest foam earpieces to be the best fit, but there were times I couldn't get a good seal with my left ear (I have VERY large ears). It seemed like the rubber earpieces fit alot better but the sound was thin and weak with them; at least initially. After struggling with the foam eartips for another week I tried the rubber ones again, on a whim. The sound was spectacular! Deep echo sounds could be heard where appropriate and natural, effective bass was now the norm. After another week the sound improved even more with these headphones. I say there is a burn in period because there is really no technique to using the rubber earphones and the sound still improved dramatically. These are the best earphones I've ever had. Pros: great cord great sound great depth great power Cons:
Let's start with the obvious. This is a balanced armature, single-driver earphone so one might expect weak bass...which is exactly what I got. If you like a balanced, presentation with acceptable loudness compensation, you most likely will be disappointed. I was, initially because like many others, I started out with dynamic driver earphones. If you're a bass-head, stay far away as these phone will not fit your needs. However, the advice given by EPS to give it a week's trial does work...by virtue of recalibrating you to accept the weak lower registers. They don't sound any better after that time, you simply get used to the sound. If I switch to my dynamic phones, the difference is like night and day. But, for the fit, the mid and upper register quality of sound, I can live with it. I'm not ecstatic, but I can live with it. Playing 256kb rips on an iPhone is not an audiophiles' endeavor so I don't need better definition in the high's. I would, however, appreciate more punch in the lows. So I guess in the end analysis, these phones get 4 stars for audio quality, build quality, and mid-high frequency performance. Deduction of one star strictly for weak bass irrespective of the fact that it is a BA design. Pros: Excellent clarity of sound. Comfortable fit. Small, unobtrusive earphone body that snuggles into ear cup. Excellent fit and finish. Cons: Weak bass.
Just a reminder of the in-ear rule: good seal = good bass weak seal = weak bass excellent seal = excellent bass
These are by far the most expensive earphones I've ever had. It was hard for me to spend $140 for earphones but I was sick and tired of cheap ones. These are very comfortable and the small profile fits well in your ear. I like the way the cord wraps behind your ear and goes down your back - they stay out of the way. The different eartips really sound and feel different. The foam ones block out a ton of noise and give the best bass response, although I think the trebles suffer a bit. The plastic and rubber ones give better treble response, but noticeably less bass, and they don't block out near as much outside noise. I am pretty happy with these and am glad I purchased them. Pros: Small profile, good sound, twisted pair cord is less likely to get tangled up. Cons: I think the trebles could be just a little bit better
I bought the Westone 1's a couple of months back. I waited to write a review because I had originally read that it takes a little time to get used to. When I first put them on my first impression was that there wasn't enough sound or mainly bass. But then I realized how clear they were. You hear every sound that was recorded on the songs playing. Then I realized that some of the songs I had were just not good recordings hence the lack of bass. But I bought these puppy's to listen to when I ride. I ride a Big Dog Chopper w/Vance & Hines pipes and no baffles. Needles to say it's loud. I wear an open face helmet and would typically get a lot of wind noise from my $30 headphones I originally had. The first time I rode and I knew these were for me (using the triple flange sleeves). I didn't get any wind noise and the sound was excellent. It seams as if they sealed when I started to ride and the bass was no longer an issue. They definitely make riding awesome!! And when I get off I don't have that ringing in my ears that I would get before. I would say that these buds will help to save your hearing even if you don't listen to anything just having them in your ears will cut the wind noise. Plus you still hear the outside world enough for safety. They are not noise canceling. They are worth the money. Pros: Comfortable fit great ear pieces great sound and wind blocking for motorcycle riding Cons:
It took awhile to find which earpieces worked best. Once that was sorted out, the sound is clear and well-defined, with excellent high and midrange. Bass is a little weak but still much better than stock earbuds. The little hard storage case rocks too. Pros: Sound quality, styling, cord, storage case Cons: Bass could be stronger. For iPod use, must plug in through a volume-control adapter, adding weight to the cord and another thing that can come unplugged.
Hi Tom, Thanks for the review! The volume control adapter is an option that you may or not use with the iPod, but it's not necessary. For stronger bass make sure you have a good seal. If not you can try the PA910 Large eartips.
After a long hunt, and a lot of discarded earphones, I have found the ones that stay in my ears through any kind of athletic activity. The Westone 1's have really nice cording - not the sticky weird stuff found on Sennheiser's - and they don't have that strange shorter left side cord. Both earpieces hang evenly from the main cord. The cording has the proper weight to not fly around, but doesn't get hung on clothing and pull the phones from your ears. The Westone 1's come with a ton of different plug tips, so there's one in there that will fit your ears. The ones that came on mine fit just fine. Just roll them between your fingers to squish them, then insert into ears and let them expand to fit your ear canal. Works like a charm! Also, twist the phones a little until they are seated in the center cavity of your outer ear. Do it in front of a mirror the first time so you can see where they're suppose to sit in your ears. The sound is great, although I'm not an audiophile - and these completely block outside noise. The most important thing for me is that they STAY IN MY EARS throughout my workout. The Westone 1's certainly do! This includes, running, jumping rope !!, walking, weightlifting (lot of bending over), bouncing around on a bosu ball, and cycling. Pros: Twisted, non-sticky cording Large variety of plug tips provided for custom fit Block all outside noise Good audio sound Stay in the ear through strenuous activity Cons: Nothing, yet.
These Westone earphones are pretty good. I have the monster turbines and the Turbines just sound better and much more clear overall, i mean the sound difference is very minor but the westone does have a louder sound than the turbines. i also dont like the ear tips that come with these. the foamy eartips can get annoying. if you accidentally squeez the tips you have to wait like 2 minutes before that return to their original form. it is high quality foam but i dont get why its need for an earphone. the only tips i like are the plastic in ear 3 bud tips, earphones should go in the ear so you have the best sound getting in, those are the only tips that provide that. but the quality plastic of those eartips isnt that great, its not soft enough so it doesnt suction in your ear so they kinda slide out. the only thing i like about these is that they are tangle free and they are easier to work out with them on compared to the turbines, also im not sure how long the product lasts i.e how many months before you have to get new ones through your warranty but the cables on these westone seem thinner but the plastic shielding feels more durable than the turbines. ive had the turbines less than a year and have gone through 2 pairs. i also like the packaging and extras for the westone than for the turbines. better carrying case too. Pros: quality, fit, accessories, warranty. Cons: sound is a bit lacking for its price.
I find them very comfortable, the sound and bass response nice. The only thing I dislike it is that once I start sweating during exercise, they keep moving in the ear, so constantly I have to pressure them. Pros: Cons:
The first Westone 1 earphones failed after two sessions at the gym. It seems they don't like high humidity conditions - after a few days of non-use they started working again. Westone replaced them quickly- excellent customer service. But the replacement has the same issue. I love the sound isolation (can't hear the screaming spin class instructor), the sound quality is good (although I tested them against my Bose Noise Cancelling over-ear head phones and thought the sound from the Bose was substantially better. So while the Westone 1 is very good it's not nearly up to the standard of the Bose - mind you the Bose is not really appropriate for the gym. If you want great sound isolation ,good sound reproduction the Westoen 1 is a good choice provided you don't plan to use it at the gym. Pros: Excellent sound isolation, good sound quality Cons: not suitable for high humid conditions common in intensive gym work out sessions
Dear Gavin, I wear my Westone 3 (same construction) every day to the gym and we are in Florida, which is highly humid and I never experienced that. The drivers will stop working for a while IF water gets inside the nozzle which never really happens when they are inserted inside your ear because people usually don't sweat from their ear canals out. Usually from the top of the head down, chest, etc. What may be happening is you sweating and removing the earphones from your ear and while they are hanging against a soaked t-shirt or just by hanging out, sweat might be dripping inside the nozzle. Anthony wears his Westone 3 every weekend with his jet ski and before that he used the Westone 1 and he never had any problems. Check out the video here: http://www.earphonesolutions.com/westone-3-at-65mph-jetski.html At any rate, please let us know if that was the case. The other little thing that will help your situation is the "Monitor Saver" which pulls the humidity from inside the earpieces: http://www.earphonesolutions.com/mosaforallin.html All you have to do is leave the earpieces inside overnight. They only cost $9.99 :)
I picked these up as a set better suited for physical activities, and I've been quite pleased. For a single driver set of IEM, they sound very good. The wires are very flexible and quiet. The fit is extremely comfortable (best fitting/comfortable set of 'phones I've used). The actual monitors are quite small and getting a hold of them to insert can be tricky. Comparing directly with my Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 Pros (original edition w/replaceable wires) they don't quite sound as good, to be expected. The bass is a bit weak, and the detail level isn't quite there. They also aren't quite as sensitive, so a bit of a volume boost was required. The posts were a lot longer (and seemed to be a bit more fragile) than the UEs. For a set to be used on the move, they are definitely suited to that purpose. I got them for for $139USD. Ordered them on a Sunday night, got them in under 2 weeks shipped to Canada.(free shipping, no duty/tax!) Pros: Price Good sound Extremely comfortable Lightweight Quiet/flexible wires Suitable for physical activity Lots of earpieces Cons: A bit weak in bass and detail - as expected w/single driver The finish of the wire seemed a bit cheap
I bought these earbuds so I can listen to the radio while falling asleep, so comfort while sleeping is very important to me. These earbuds are very comfortable and they sound great. This is my second pair however, since the first pair quit working after about one year. The foam inserts are better on this pair too. The ones on the first pair fell apart after about six months of usage and I was unable to find any replacements for them. The price, about $100, seemed high to me and I resisted paying that much but I was afraid anything cheaper would be unbearable to wear all night. So I bought a pair of Denon AH-C252K earbuds for about $35 for comparison purposes. The sound quality for talk radio is equivalent. The plastic inserts are not quite as comfortable but they are acceptable. The buds protrude from my ear more than the Westone pair, but this has not proven to be uncomfortable either. The wire on the Westone is more pliable than the Denon, making it almost not noticeable if I accidentally lay on it. I like these earbuds but will not purchase them again since they are so expensive. Pros: great sound comfortable shape comfortable foam inserts pliable wire Cons: expensive premature failure
The quality of the sound is excellent. Overall very happy with the purchase. Pros: Great sound. Multiple sizes and styles of eartips. Nice travel case. Comfortable. Cons: Once they are in, the earphones are undetectable, light and fine. It does take a bit of effort to get them in correctly.
I was a little unimpressed at first, but once I cycled through all the tips and found the right set, it all fell into place. Bass is tough to get until you find the right tips! Everything is very clear! Love these earphones! Pros: Comfortable! Durable. Nice case and accessories. Crystal clear. Cons: Wish the cord was replaceable. Have to spend more if you want that option I guess.
With the many styles & sizes of ear plugs I'm still having a hard time finding one that is comfortable (fits). These earphones are not as impressive as I thought they would be for the price. Would not recommend them to a friend. Pros: Lightweight Cons: The earplug does not fit my ear. Sound is no better than my $30 Koss headphones.
Dear Patrick, once you get the fit right, the sound will follow. At first bass will always be shy with in-ear earphones until you find the right eartip that will provide the correct seal to your ear canal size. But it's perfectly normal to take 7-10 days to get it right.
I have really enjoyed these earbuds. They have clear sound and are very comfortable Pros: Cons: A little clearer right and left designation
I have had them a month now - having read all the hype out there on everything in this price range, I am really happy with the Westone 1. They sound incredible, are sleek, and are very comfy to wear. I am not new to head phones but semi-new to ear buds - my third set. These are just great. I can run with these and they stay very secure (marathon training - no adjustments needed mid-run). During air travel overseas last week, they were very isolating. They work great with my iPhone. If I lost, them I would buy them again in a second. One added plus - they do not stick out from my ears so wearing with a winter hat is comfy. Others I saw looked like a knit cap could push in on them - ouch! Oh, my Westone 1's blow my Shure 115's away if that helps anyone in both sound and fit. Pros: great price great sound great fit great case Cons: none yet
These are great for the price--balanced sound, very lightweight, yet super sturdy. Fit like a glove, extremely comfortable & easy to forget they're in your ear. The cable is great--it really is designed to minimize noise when it rubs against your clothes. The sound is very balanced & easy to enjoy. These are my favorites to use in the gym, highly recommended. Pros: Lightweight Super fit Great cable All kinds of ear tips, including several Comply Tip sizes Cons: None
Great quality for the money. Great low range and excellent midrange. Durable, comfortable, good volume control. Good response. Great carrying case. Pros: hard carrying case, fit well, great sound Cons:
Finally, NO MORE THUMPING! These are unlike all the pretenders that claim to be noise cancelling and high quality. These actually work with NO THUMP!. Those that run know what I am talking about. The sound is excellent as well. Pros: Cons:
These earphones were billed to be super comfortable. I couldn't agree more. They are the most comfortable earphones I have ever used. They are perfect for going to the gym. There are times when I forget I have them in. This is third pair I have purchased. I have given both my children one of these Westone 1's, and they are big fans, too! Pros: Super comfortable Great sound Lots of ear bud choices Cons: None
I wanted to ugrade my iem and after long searches on the interweb i found earphone solutions and was reading how much you love westone products and the such so before diving into the um3 i decided to give the westone 1's a try and sound quality is great but there is no bass are the 3's the same way. I will never find out because i do not want to drop $400 to find out. Pros: excellent wire best i have seen on any iem over sound quality is pretty good Cons: WHERE'S THE BASS??
Hi Brian, Balanced armature driver earphones such as Shure, Westone, Ultimate Ears, etc, don't move air like dynamic drivers and for that reason you need a perfect seal in order to get the bass you are supposed to. That usually takes, on average, 7-10 days, as you need to try all the eartips that come with the earphones to get a good match between the eartips and your ear canal's anatomy. It's a one time process and it's worth! There will be a huge difference in sound between the day you open the package and 7-10 days later. Call us for any more help :) 1-888-473-9661
Good servise to Canada Pros: Good sound, and easy to use Cons: Tips for the ear, were very poor, none provided, would seal the ear, were can I buy better tips????
I Travel to China a lot & it is so comfortable to wear this ear bud that I don't even want to take it off! You will not find a better all-around product for the price that will keep sound noise cancelation that took me by surprise with this quality. To find a carrying case with all these accessories is unheard of these days. Pros: Cannot hear others talking on the bus. All of the outside sound is wiped away. All i hear is the music! Cons: To read the "L" or "R" on the earphones.Cord length .
Buy these headphones. You will not find a better all-around product for the price. I have dealt with Westone Customer service and they are on top of their game. Pros: Stellar sound, very responsive to EQ. great silicone tips alongside the complys. sleek and SEXY appearance. Warranty. Cons: Wires show aesthetic flaws, though this is no reason to believe that they are not as long-lasting as earphonesolutions claims. Some wire-fray near the jack, and slight separation of wound wires near the monitors.
Great earphones and easy to install into the ear. Pros: Light weight, great sound Cons:
Great sound. It reminds me of the old days of searching for great stereo speakers. I can hear all the instruments! Pros: Cannot hear others talking on the bus. All of the outside sound is wiped away. All i hear is the music! Cons: hard for me to read the "L" or "R" on the earphones. Not a big issue but I have to fumble with them each time I wear them. Paint the letters so the right and left are easily identifiable.
After having my dog bite off and eat (Yuk!) the earpieces of both of my rather expensive Shure ear buds, I decided to try a different company. Who knows, maybe my dog had a something against Shure. So, after a lot of comparison, particularly frequency response, price and product review, I settled on the Westone 1's. At first I was a bit taken aback by the cord. The twisted cable didn't wind up nice and neat like a normal cable but I was soon able to get it stretched out and all the kinks worked out of it. Right out of the box the fit was perfect. In fact I still have to reach up once in a while to make sure they aren't falling out - now that's comfortable! The sound quality really took me by surprise. Especially given the price. Everything I listen to seems more open and even across the spectrum. No hyped frequencies. They sound absolutely beautiful! Nothing compared to my old Shure units. Another unexpected benefit was that they were a lot louder than my other ear buds. I found myself actually turning down the music. It was just the opposite before. Bottom line, I love these things. The music that I'm familiar with has never sounded so good. As a recording engineer, the stuff I mix sounds like it's supposed to sound. Dont buy these if you want hyped low end or want them to impart a certain tone to you music. Pros: Small and unobtrusive. Great fit and wonderful sound quality. Oh, and at a great price too! Cons: I'd prefer a single cable as apposed to the twisted pair.
The first pair of headphones that actually stay in my ears. Pros: Cons:
This is the first pair of good headphones I've ever bought (good being over $20) and they rock! I have always had trouble with ipod headphones falling out when working out.. what a pain that is. These headphones stay in no matter what and don't tug on your ears or feel uncomfortable. Pros: Great fit Great sound reduction with foam isolation Very light headphone cord Come with a ton of interchangeable ear pieces (6 or 7 different kinds with some extra foam ones as well) Cons: Expensive for a pair of headphones (they are a great value compared to others in the market but $130 is still a lot of $$ for headphones)
I get a great fit with these. They are the most comfortable ear buds I've ever used. The sound is fine for my purposes. Pros: Great fit Comfort Warm sound Cons:
It is so comfortable to wear this earbud that I dont even want to take it off! However, comparing this one to Sennheiser CX380, the base performance is definitely weaker. In contrast, this one has a much balanced sound and better voice isolation ability. Pros: Comfortable Clean sound quality Great voice isolation Cons: Not enough bass ear buds are not easy to clean.
I've used In Ear Monitors (IEM's) for over 2 years now in the form of a set of Shure E2C's and a warranty replacement set of SCL2-K's. I bought the Westone1's to replace the SCL2-K's after the cord got damaged accidentally (the outstanding Shure warranty had expired). I've read many reviews from others who have tried IEM's and could not get good sound out of them. I had always suspected that those people had not taken the time to properly fit the IEM's to their ears. I found this particularly true with the Westone1's. I primarily wear IEM's under a full face helmet while riding my motorcycle. It is particularly important to get a good fit in this situation because of the high noise levels associated with motorcycling. A poor fit not only diminishes the quality of music in a quiet environment but allows outside noise through in a loud environment. I almost returned the Westone1's because of this fitment issue. I tried all of the supplied fit sleeves and couldn't seem to get as much sound isolation as my previous Shure IEM's. Well, I was able to repair the cable on my Shures and find a set of sleeves that gave a good fit for me on the Westone1's. I compared the two, side by side, using my Creative Zen MP3 player, same songs, same volume, in a quiet environment. The Westone1's are much more efficient (more volume at the same setting) and are brighter, with better imaging than the Shures. The Westone1's also give nearly the same bass response as the Shures. The low profile of the Westone1's is very welcome for my use under a helmet as I was finding some discomfort with the Shures on long rides. This was probably due to two things; the larger size of the Shures and I was probably using one size too large fit sleeve. I think the cause of my fit problem with the Westone1's is the angle of the sound "nozzle". I think my ear canal is more aligned with the angle of the Shure nozzle than the Westone nozzle. Pros: Size Imaging Clarity Efficiency Cables Cons: Isolation Finding the right fit
I've had 2 different models of Shure audio in-earphones and was dissatisfied by the lack of balance, not to mention comfort. These are, by far, the most comfortable earphones and the sound is exceptional for the price! I use them for personal listening as well as professional use in a recording studio. I work with studio monitors all day and these are my new favorites. The cord could be a little longer for the studio environment, but for personal listening it is actually easier to manage. If this is the quality of Westones entry level earphones, I'm curious to know how the Westone 3's are better and what they must sound like! Truly exceptional engineering. Pros: Price Comfort (perfect) Sound balance Sound reproduction Cord management Cons: Cord length (not critical)

- All Westone models come with a selection of True-Fit foam http://www.earphonesolutions.com/comply-tips-standard.html
and Star Tips http://www.earphonesolutions.com/star-tips-eartips-sleeves.html
I plan on using these earbuds with a Samsung Note3. Where is the controller located on the cable? I normally wear the earbuds with the cable inside my shirt and down my back while working out. Will that be a problem?
- Tech Support answered:
- Hi Deborah,
The inline control is on the cable. Having the cables down your back will not be a problem however you will not be able to use the microphone to take calls while the cable is behind your back. It will also be hard to use the volume control and music control. But you can definitely workout with the cables that way.
i am a frequent traveler, so i was planning to buy a westone earphone but i am struggling between getting a w10 and a um pro 10, also a affordable price since i am not a pro in music all i want is comfort and noise isolation, so is there any recommend ?
- Tech Support answered:
- Either model will be comfortable and will provide great noise isolation just as long as you find the right sleeve for you.
The UM PRO 10 offers a warm sound signature; very balanced.
The W10 is slightly clearer and has a tad more punch on the bass and includes both audio and iPhone cable with microphone.
