The Four Major Parts of an In Ear Headphone... That Matter to the Customer

While there are many components that go into a high-end in ear headphone, only four really matter to the customer. Engineers will be shaking their heads...

The four parts that determine how the customer feels about the earphones are the parts that he/she interacts with on a daily basis:

• Earpiece - the shape and form of the earpiece will determine the level of comfort and fit
• Drivers - will determine the sound quality. Driver quantity per earpiece (single, dual or triple), crossover design, type of driver (dynamic or balanced armature)
• Cable design - cables will be handled at all times and interact with your earpieces and body
• Plug - some plugs are straight and some are bent at 90 degrees. Depending on how you wear your iPod or iPhone, the straight or 90 degree angle plug will be preferred.
