"Great IEM’s for Running, December 19, 2008
Reviewer: Troy
I work out quite regularly and have had issues getting a decent pair of IEM’s or Ear buds to stay in my ear and not fall out or loosen up. These are by far the most comfortable ear phones I've ever worn hands down. So I’ve had them now about 3 weeks, and have put them to every possible test I can think of to get them to fall out. I started off with biking then moved onto the cross trainer and they never budged. The next day I used them while i lifted weights and had no issues. So I figured I would stop messin around and put them to the real test. Out in the heat running hard. They stayed put and actually are so light i thought they were falling out a couple times only to find they were still tightly seated and the sound was pretty good. Since then I have tried several other activities and to no avail they do not budge I even tried playing basket ball as well as jumping rope and they came out perfect.
The only down fall that I see is the Comply tips seem to wear pretty fast although I use mine 2-3 times per day for workouts and have not had to replace them, I can see the wear. Not a big deal they are a cheap replacement and definitely worth the money. If you lead a active lifestyle and are looking for decent sounding IEM’s or earbuds this is it. If you want AMAZING sounding step up to the UM2’s or the new UM3’s. They were a bit outa my price range but for the money. I don’t think the UM1’s can be beat for comfort."
"Unbeatable for price, December 17, 2008

I had a set of Shure SCL-2s that I lost...so I replaced them with these, per suggestion from a friend. They are both around the same price range, entry level in-ear earphones. These sound very clear and accurate, and the bass response is there. Not muddy at all. They were also very comfortable and didn’t fall out easily. The earpiece compresses as you squeeze it, then it expands in your ear, ensuring a snug fit. You can hear all the small details of your audio. I hope I can upgrade to UM2s in the future, but this is all I can afford right now, and I’m very happy!"

I can’t believe the quality for the price. Comfortable and the sound is incredible. I am recommending them to others who love music as much as I do."

Quality vs Price!
By Yugi from Beloeil, Qc, Canada on June 4, 2010
Wow, I am a musician and a soundman too, and these little in-ear are amazing. For sure they don't have the great low-end as the UM3 gives you, but you just need to put your bass-boost and add a little highs too and it's quite perfect. Actually, I have a friend who has the UM3, and I compare both of them. And at my point of view it's clear that having more drivers will give you more precision in the sound, BUT....... there's no end to that, next year they'll make the four drivers, and then the fifth one will came out, just like the shaving blades, ahah!!! It's just like the "MultiBand Compressors" that soundmen use to work with! You have the lows, the low-mids, the mids, the high mids and the highs, so don't be surprise with a new 4 or 5 drivers coming out soon! Even with the UM3 you need to add some high just a tiny bit, so....try play with your EQs a bit before throwing your money anywhere.
For my budget I think I just made the best choice ever! And I'll use them for stage monitoring too.
Westone rules!
Pros:
Wires quality,
Comfort,
Universal fit,
Price
Cons:
not much yet!

So far, so good!
By TomR from Raleigh, NC on May 16, 2010
This was my first experience with in-ear monitors for live performance. Takes some time to acclimate to playing this way, but they are working very well for me. At some point I might upgrade to dual driver models and these can serve as backups (or they'd be great for listening to tunes while I mow the grass). Sound isolation is excellent -- I have to pop one out if I want to talk to someone without a mic!

The best for me
By Mike from Lexington, SC on March 10, 2010
I was thrilled to get my hands on the earphones. After many failed attempted with the regular ear inserts, I found the only way for them to stay in was with the triple flanges. As to operation, they currently suit my purpose. I find that they do not totally block the noises in my house. And, it can be very noisy! The sound quality could be better. The sound was better on my Shure headphones but, they didn't block and outside sounds. This is why I purchased the Westone.

Great product
By Matthew from Chicago, Il on February 24, 2010
After my previous earbuds died, the search was on for a quality replacement. My search led me to the Westone UM1's. I am extremely happy thus far with my purchase. I use the Westone's while working, at the gym and while travelling. They produce fantastic sound and do a great job of reducing outside noise while being comfortable. I have had them in for about 3 hours straight without any ear irritation, I quite frankly don't feel them after 10 min. They stay in your ear extremely well for uses such as the gym. Also they reduce outside noise, such as terrible music at the gym or airplane/train noise.
Pros:
Sound quality & comfort
Cons:
I have already gone through a set of the foam earbuds in about a month.

Great Sound!
By Cathy Cannon from Johnson City, TN on December 17, 2009
I didn't think I'd get such good sound from earbuds, but these give a clear crisp stereo sound that is as good as the old huge headphones.
Cons:
The right ear bud kept falling out; all of them do, but I just got a bobby pin, and clip the cord to my hair; now, no problem.

Great For the Price
By Chris from Nashville Tennessee on December 16, 2009
I bought these in ears to use at my Church and other gigs around town,I play drums and really didn't have a lot of money, but I wanted something decent,I am very happy with the sound,I read a lot of reviews before I bought these,a lot of people said that they didn't have a lot of bass, but I only find that when they are not properly inserted in my ears,I found that the Shure silicone buds will fit on my Westones, and I am using them, they sound even better,I'm not really a big fan of the foam buds,I would recommend these for musicians on a budget that want a quality product.
Pros:
sound great, price
Cons:
foam buds

great earphones
By John Karas from Bethlehem PA on October 27, 2009
These earphones have excellent sound response, very clear, and the size fit great in my ears. They also do an outstanding job of blocking out unwanted road and wind noise. Even at highway speeds the clarity of the music is great, and you dont need high volume. If I could change something with these earphones it would be to increase base response. I listen mostly to rock
Pros:
Made in USA!!!
Excellent product
Cons:
A little light on the base, could use a little more punch.

perfect fit for active, audiophyle, midget ears enthusiast
By Drew from Berkeley, CA on September 26, 2009
I'm now onto my second pair of Westone ear phones. I've always hated in-ear phones because they would always fall out. I cannot rock the iPod white ones like the rest of the world does. I've always had to have those collapsible Sony over the top of the head ear phones, and ... well after listening to these, the over the head ones just plain suck. No seal = bad sound.
I've used my girlfriends Shure earphones (probably the SE115) and when listening, you have to remain absolutely still or the noise from your shirt will shoot along the wire just like a stethoscope. Really annoying!
Not so with the wires on these Westones. The wires are twisted which seems to help, and they come out of the ear phone, go forward, then up and over the ear to the back of your head. They're out of the way, and one can hardly tell you're got ear phones in.
I used to have a pair of UM1s and loved them. I lost them, and now I'm waiting for my Westone 1s, which, by the reviews, are everything and more of the UM1s. Can't wait!
Pros:
actually goes in and stays in my ear
wires don't reverberate noise like a stethoscope
great little carrying case to throw in back pack
interchangeable ear pieces for a sweaty workout, or quiet libraries
Cons:
small and easy to loose

Great performance
By Mel from Roy, Utah on July 3, 2009
Wow, what else can I say? I just received my new UM1's. After 30 minutes or so of playing with the different eartips, I'm really pleased with the sound isolation and the overall sound. As many have noted they could have a little more base, but they are very balanced otherwise.
Now..the earphones are really nice, but the service? That's nothing short of outstanding! I ordered them on July 1, with the July 4th discount and free shipping. Free shipping says 7-9 days delivery time. I figured with the holiday weekend, I'd be happy if I had them in 7 days, and not disappointed at all if it took 9-10. I received them today. July 3rd. Two days. I'm just blown away!
Pros:
Great sound.
Easy fit.
Outstanding delivery.

Wow...
By MJH from USA on June 4, 2009
Crsip sound, completely blocks outside noise, can be used as earplugs just to block out crying babies!! Great response, only need half the volume to get a bir effect. Love them!!! Can't imagine how the UM2 or 3 can be better but will try them next....

Great value

Great earphones that came with everything included. Lots of different choices of ear canal inserts, external volume adapter for planes, good case...
Top of the line
By John on March 17, 2009
The best feature of these earphones has to be the comfort. I have gone thru 5 or 6 pairs of the $20 to $30 earphones and none can come close to the sound quality and comfort of Westone. The only down side with the UM1 is lack of low end, wish I had the money for the UM2 or UM3 but for just listening to an ipod I can't justify $300 plus for earphones
Love Them
By Scott on March 16, 2009
They take some getting used to (foam vs silicone) and are not as bright as my preference, but nicely balanced. I'd like to try some um2's to see if the treble is a little more extended
Awesome earphone
By no name on March 10, 2009
Westone UM1 provides resonable amout of sound isolation. This earphone is amazingly comfortable compared to others. Most import of all, it projects clean, precise sound for people who are sensitive to sound. (like me)
I absolutely recommand this product!
Even if there are other earphones with dual drivers at same price range as this, it won't produce rich sound.
This is one of the best earphone in this price range! (Well... I think it is BEST!)
After its big brother, the UM2, these are the second most comfortable earphones we have reviewed. It's direct competition for the Shure SE110, Shure SE210, Shure SCL2 and Shure SCL3. The UM1 has a more balanced output and are the most comfortable earphones in the market. They are also made in the USA. Cables are also better designed than the others.
Best for those that want UTMOST COMFORT for an affordable price and Made in USA. The UM1 is also recommended for people with small ears, children and for working out as these are guaranteed to stay in your ear. You can hardly notice you are wearing them.
