Incredible and very balanced sound
By David García from Ceuta, Spain on February 6, 2011

I own at this pair of this, a pair of Westone 3, a pair of Westone UM3x and a pair of UE 10 triple fi. Previously I owned anothers UE purchased in Spain (this is the only the brand that can be purchase in Spain). Right now I'm waiting for a new pair of Shure SE535 (as you can see I'd spend almost $2000 by purchasing in Earphonesolutions).
With UE models I'd got a lot of problems (the triple fi was broken in the first month of use) and all the others was very uncomfortable to wear.
Later I started shopping Westone products and I discover a new dimension with the Universal series.
The ES3X Custom is an amazing IEM (maybe I prefer more bass), but the middle is amazing. You can ear how the air pass trough a wind instrument with a very warm sound. The highs are very balanced, not very crispy (as the UE 10 triple.fi).
Provide a impressive isolation level (I use to travel by helicopter and I don't hear the sound of the engine with the sound level of my MP3 player at 40%).
Pros:
Almost all thingsCons:
I`ve had to change 3 times the cable (problems with the connectors)
With less than 1 year of use I must send it to repair (the place where the cable make the connection with the right IEM break the right IEM)I would recommend this item to a friend.
Hyperbole

More money than sense is my wife's view. I already have a pair of Westone 3's which are incredible and I really didn't think could be surpassed. I'm a layman, a listener not a musician of any description so this review is for all those people who just appreciate damn good music, presented well.
Packaging and presentation is second to none. Nice case, complimentary T-shirt, built well, looks and feels professional before you even open the case. You could argue that you would expect that for the money but we all know that it still makes a difference. I would describe it all as 'neat and pert' and very sexy.
After the expected fiddling of fitting them they do, as suggested in the instructions, suddenly click into place and you have the mother of all 'fits' - it is just perfect, you've already forgotten they are there. They are big and a little clunkier than the, perhaps more elegant, 3's but so what, it ain't a fashion parade at this level of expenditure. They look good and not silly. I chose the British flag motif on mine (I'm a Brit and proud of it) but you could choose a colour that blends in more if you wanted.
I'm not sure what I was expecting and it took me a while to tune in but then it became a revelation - they are better than the 3's or the Shure 530. They do exactly what they say on the tin. You get as precise a reproduction of what the artist intended whilst sitting at the recording studio mixing desk as you'll ever get and that's it. I was astonished to hear stuff that I hadn't heard before in 30 years of listening.
Bottom line. If you want a faithful reproduction of the track as first intended with a veritable cornucopia of sounds and melodies that simply envelope you and your senses then buy these. It is also true that the best equalizer setting is off. Let the phones and the music do the talking.
If you like you bass higher, or your trebles lifted or you fiddle with your equalizer to get your personal desired sound then don't waste your money, buy good triples but not these - you're almost insulting the craftsmen who made them and the artist who recorded the track.
Brilliant Westone, brilliant!

All of the aboveCons:
Price is always going to be an issueI would recommend this item to a friend.
FANTASTIC!

Among the best monitors i have ever owned. Did some comparing to the JH 10X3 PRO offered by Jerry Harvey Audio, the ES3X is no less than excellent. The ES3X offers one of the most neutral presentations on the market today, it's perfect for stage monitoring if you are considering these for the use.
For listening, the ES3X is definitely worthy as the Top of the LIne monitor from Westone. The high's are clear detailed, crisp but not irritating. Mids are smooth, have a great amount of depth and are rich. Lows are adequate, i say this as some listeners that prefer a large enveloping "thump" to their music may not appreciate the quick, accurate punch from the ES3X.
Build quality wise, the ES3X are at the very top. Compared to all my monitors, the Westone ES3X stand among the top. The Heat-Sensitive Vinyl tips are a big advantage in long term listening, however they do require proper care in cleaning as they will yellow if not wiped clean after use.
Overall though, a Top-Tier Custom monitors that comes with a decent amount of accessories
Pros:
-Competitive price
-Crisp, natural Highs
-Smooth, rich mids
-Quick, fast accurate lows
-More accessories then leading competitors
-great service from WestoneCons:
-Lows may not be powerful enough fo some listeners of heavy metal, Rock etc...
-Heat Sensitive Vinyl tips will yellow if not properly cleanedI would recommend this item to a friend.
