Westone 4 Spec Sheet

Westone Music Products is pleased to announce the release of the Westone 4 True-Fit Earphone. The new pinnacle of the Westone Series, the 4 features four balanced armature drivers with a three-way crossover network for breathtaking clarity and realism. The Westone 4 is the clear choice for the serious audiophile and music enthusiast.
The Westone 4 will be revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on January 6, with product shipping early in the first quarter of 2011.
On December 10th, 2010, at 7:00 PM EST, Lynn Kehler, Westone's CEO, posts this pic on his personal Twitter account showing an iPad and what might look like the Westone 4

His comments were limited to
"I'm testing out a new iPad...man, the sound quality is great! The picture looks blurry and we don't know if he let this cat out of the bag by accident or if the camera color is completely off and rendered the red an orange, but I'm almost sure I can read a "4" on those earpieces.
If that is indeed the Westone 4, it would be the very first quadruple driver earphones with universal fit in the world and possibly the best sounding in ear headphones with universal fit ever made.
That's 4 drivers per earpiece!!The Westone 4 in ear headphones -- A myth? Vaporware? or perhaps the best sounding ever in ear universal fit headphones project? We honestly don't know. Manufacturers have been able to crunch up to 6 drivers within a single earpiece, 5 and 4, but these were all custom mold earphones that cost between $1,000 and $1,500 so a product such as a Quad-Driver called Westone 4 is a possibility.
We would love to see a Westone 4 and honestly it would be great to see an entry level Westone product that would be in the $79 price range. Perhaps a Westone Half or Westone Zero :)
While none of that happens we continue to hope. Not that more drivers necessarily mean better sound, but when you pack a 3-way crossover and multiple drivers, it's almost inevitable to produce a better sounding product. As more drivers are added to a single earpiece and more you divide the frequency range to be handled by those "specialized" drivers, less drop out on any given frequency range you will experience. The music will sound fuller, richer, more live and complete.
A Westone 4 would be an awesome option for audiophiles and music enthusiasts. The Westone
Four could still have a 3-way crossover but have 2 drivers handling mids, 1 driver handling lows and another driver handling highs. The
Shure SE535 has a 2-way crossover with 3 drivers and they deliver great mids. The
Westone 3 has 3 drivers and a 3-way crossover. So far, that's my favorite as they deliver the most comfort with punchy bass, rich mids and precise and crispy highs. A Westone 4 earphones would indeed be something to look forward to. If that picture is indeed the Westone 4, Westone is probably planning to announce it during CES 2011 in Las Vegas, this coming January 6.
