An outstanding combination
By Jim from Yamaguchi, Japan on December 16, 2010

I have been through three different headsets for my iPhone, including high-end Sennheisers as well as cheap no-name headphones from China. They all broke within a couple of months.
I broke down and opened up my budget based mostly on the requirement that the earphones be built to last. I asked the staff here for advice, and this is the set they recommended.
I've now been using this set daily for over three weeks and am so happy I followed the recommendation.
I use my headset constantly, for at least three hours a day. So I need comfortable, in-ear noise canceling earphones. I use them with my iPhone so I also need a microphone and remote. IN addition, I listen primarily to podcasts so I don't need extremely high quality sound reproduction. And as I said above, I need something that will last.
In regards to comfort, build quality and noise canceling the headphones are top notch. They come with a huge variety of tips, and after some tries I found that the middle-sized foam tips offer the best seal and comfort. This also led to the best sound quality.
The build quality also feels excellent, with firm cables and nicely moulded earpieces. Time will tell how they last, but I feel confident here.
I like the included case, though I use my headphones so much I don't need it too much. The included tips are a nice touch for those with different sized ear canals and
The mic on the MP100 has good sensitivity, and the people I've called have all had no problems with understanding or clarity. The remote works fine with my iPhone 3GS.
Overall, I can't really say I need anything else on these. I will say that the sound reproduction is not markedly different from the Sennheiser MM50 IP, but the general quality and comfort certainly are better.
Pros:
The build quality, the comfort and the noise canceling.
The case.Cons:
Not much, but I do think that for the price, the sound quality could have been a little better.I would recommend this item to a friend.
Great sounds, great price!

I use this every day...at low volume in the morning on the train on my way to work and higher volume to mute annoying loud talkers and every night listening to my meditation or brain entrainment in my iPod, it's so comfortable I even use it for my going to sleep meditations instead of the bulky wireless one. I have a small kinda deep ear and the soft longer eartips is just perfect fit!

My loss is my gain

In 2009 I purchased the Westone UM1's after my Ultimate Ears (entry level). They were both in the same price range and after reading so much about the UM1's, I decided to go with them. Rather then review the UM1's, I will say that I lost them as well (don't let me babysit for you) and decided to purchase the Westone 1 with Smart Talk for IPhone.
I am so glad I am irresponsible and lose things as the Westone 1's are amazing. Let's face it, you are not going to get thundering bass. That's what home systems are for. This is an IPhone with earphones and with that in mind, then understand these are fantastic! They actually blow the UM1's away....just my opinion, but there is a noticeable difference between the UM1's and the Westone 1's.
I'm not here to talk about crossovers and technical stuff. This is about do they sound good? Do they make you smile when you listen to them and are they worth the money spent. I would say yes on all accounts.
So if you are thinking of making a Westone purchase, I say lose you current earphones and buy the Westone 1's...you will be thanking yourself for losing your previous ones.
By the way, when I lose these Westone 1's, I will no doubt upgrade to the Westone 2's. I figure in 3 years, I will own the Westone 3's....then I will chat about more technical stuff.
Pros:
Price
Fit
Sound
Look
Accessories (Case, etc.)Cons:
Nothing...except that they are not the Westone 3's, but that is more of a jealousy issue. ;-)I would recommend this item to a friend.
Maybe I have bad hearing...

For comfort, these earbuds can't be beat. Fit great, and never move once they are in. But as for the sound, I hear no bass at all. To me, earbuds that came with my iPhone sound much, much better than these do. Fuller, deeper sound with the iPhone earbuds. So if you want comfort, these are great, but if you want great sound....
Pros:

Hi Daniel, you will only get the full bass once you get a very good seal and takes a little while as you try to match one of the 10 different eartips with your ear canal anatomy. Thanks for the review!New to Westone's

I purchased my first pair after a 5 month quest for workout friendly earphones. After many dollars, many headphones, and crazy looks from my wife, I went with the Westone 1's. The sound is phenominal. If you are listening to music with a lot of bass, I have to say that maybe the Westone 2's would be a better choice. Don't get me wrong, the Westone 1's are wonderful, but I have a bit of a picky ear when it comes to bass reproduction. The headphones are PERFECT for working out or running. They really stay put. You can even sleep with them and have your ear against the pillow with no discomfort at all; they almost seem as if they are not even in your ear. The only thing I think is odd is the configuration of the optional Griffin microphone...... the point at which it plugs in to your earphones and phone, makes it difficult to utilize at an ergonomic position without taping or zip-tying it back along the line of the earphones. If you don't do this the earphones + microphone will be way too long and the microphone will be more towards your phone than your mouth. Bose has a mobile microphone attachment that is midline in the wire of the headphones. It would be great if Westone would lop their headpone line in two with a male and female connector that would work with or without the Griffin attachment.
I would recommend this item to a friend.

Hi Dave, the way I use the SmartTalk with the Westone is this:
The Westone cable hangs on my back and come up over my shoulder to connect to the SmartTalk female jack which is clipped to my shirt close to my neck. I'm 5' 11". If you are taller, you would probably have to clip the SmartTalk at a lower position than close to your neck.Expectations were met!

Great earphones. All the accessories that you need. The Smart Talk works well but I find the smart Talk cord a little long requiring you to clip the microphone on the earphone cord to be effective.
Pros:
Awesome sound. Well accessorized. Great pricepoint. Smart Talk works.Cons:
Smart Talk cord too long.Best I've Owned

The sound is a bit on the high end, but after 30 seconds my ear adjusts and I can hear the depth of the bass and the highs of the treble very clearly. You must "work" to get the buds into the ear far enough to be inserted properly. If you can afford it, go for the higher end Westones, but these are much better than most others. As for the noise cancellation, they are OK, but the Bose 15's are better. Who wants to carry the much larger Bose, however?
Shipping was immediate and all was as advertised. A great pair of ear buds and the Smart talk for iPhone 3GS works without a hitch.
Pros:
Good Sound
Light weight
Cord is the "right" length
Smart Talk works greatCons:
Hard to get into ears deeply enough
Noise canceling is "not bad" but 2nd to Bose 15'sI would recommend this item to a friend.
