Great, comfortable option
By Chuck on February 5, 2007
I've tried the Westone UM1's (most comfortable, great cables, shallow sound); Shure E3g (least comfortable, cheap plastic, no bass);; Bose IE (good lows, a little muddy, no mids or highs to speak of, no noise cancellation, and the little ends that go in your ears come off and get lost easily); and, Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro (large & uncomfortable for long periods, best overall sound from lows to highs, a little "shrill").
The V-Moda Vibe is a great, comfortable alternative. The small size fits easily in the ear (you can lay your head comfortably on a pillow) and the sound is excellent. Notes aren't as well defined as the UE's, but the overall sound is more balanced and easier on the ears for a long period of time.
Summary - for the best sound, the Super.fi 5 Pros delivered the cleanest sound. Bass "pops", drums "ring", and you can hear guitar strings being played individually. But, if you’re listening for an extended period, they can wear on you.
By contrast, the V-Moda Vibe is a much more rounded earphone. Not as clear as the UEs, but they won’t wear you out either. AND, they’re less than a hundred bucks! A great deal!
As good as your recommendation
By John H on January 1, 2007
I bought these as an iPod replacement for my daughter. I requested a recommendation from Earphone Solutions for an ear bud that would fit small ears and they recommended the V-Modas. The fit is perfect with the small soft sleeves (three sizes are provided) for my daughter. I tried the larger sizes and found them to be quite comfortable.
The sound is a huge step up from the iPod phones, although the sound is a bit muddy in the middle and the isolation is not as good as my UM1s. But they are much easier to insert and remove than the UM1 foam inserts, which is necessary for an active teen like my daughter.
The design and quality seem quite good. The ear pieces are metal and seem very rugged. My daughter likes to wrap the cable around her Nano and the good quality cable seems like it’s up to the abuse. For under $100, they’re exactly what I was looking for. Much appreciation to Earphone Solutions for your recommendation and service.
V-Moda's, ehhh
By Rivera on December 27, 2006
I picked up a pair of the V-Moda Vibes for Christmas this year from my wife and have to say that I now disagree with all of the hype that came with them.
Quite honestly, I was looking for an I-pod asset which could truly isolate mids / highs to deliver the overall package that I (thought) my Bose in-ear were lacking. Turns out the V-Moda's were lacking in comparison. The bass did deliver, but was somewhat more powerful in the right phone than the left? I even swithced them to see if I wasn't going crazy. I also had others check 'em out; same thing (although they liked the design). Additionally, checked them out on other I-pod's (and one Toshiba Gigabeat) and sure enough, same thing. Weak sound quality. Period.
Very disapppointed with the set and will definitely return for a new set.
I do want to comment on the quality that earphone solutions brings to its customers. I am an active duty Army Medical Services Officer and deal with many health professionals who are true-to-life audiophiles and have purchased through your organization over and over. When I told them of the V-Moda's they never heard of them and recommended Shure instead. Maybe I should have listened...
Just a note, have you heard of any complaints of the right side (phone) considerably louder than the left side on the V-Moda Vibes in the I-pod? This is another predominant concern.
For the price point, go with another set. That's my recommendation.
Anyways, Happy Holidays.
These are great and very small earbuds. They don't isolate as well as the Shure SCL2 and the UM1. Not as detailed as the earphones with balanced armature drivers such as the UM1. Very easy to insert. Traditional "cables straight down" design.
Best for customers that do not want total isolation and want an affordable fun all around sound. They are very small so we also recommend them for people with small ears and children.
