I have had the Shure SE846 since their release. I enjoyed them about 6 months, and then started to get intermittence from the cable MMCX connector. Grew frustrated, and let them sit, sent them back to Shure, whom to my surprise replaced them after testing. The new set seemed to have the same problem, this is after trying various aftermarket "litz" silver cables! Again they sat, and I switched to other headphones. Just this week, May 11th I learned about the Linum on ES. Decided it doesn't make sense that I have one of the best set of earphones ever made and do not use them! I ordered the Linum overnight! Wow! They sound terrific! The MMCX connector fit appears very solid. I am hoping the light weight and low stress, will eliminate intermittence. I will update. But after reading more on Linum's website, I feel the silver plated, OCC copper cable should be equal quality to any, and the care Linum takes to their construction should be well worth it. Sound 5/5*****; Comfort 10 stars out of 5!; it's like you are not wearing wired headphones, no joke unbelievable! Just maybe I'll get to enjoy my headphones again!

they sound great and I barley know they are around my ear. My issue is with cable to male connection. If it's touched or moved the sound brakes into interference. I have to be careful how the phone is placed in my pocket or on my arm when I work out because if the cable connection is moved or bent even a little bit I get disturbance in earphone sound

I have enjoyed the twisty cables that came with my westones but when they died in the first year I started thinking about these lightweight cables because when I run, the bouncing is annoying, especially when I use the arm band. Although Westone replaced the cables and then the headphones entirely, I sprung for these to improve my running experience And they have. They pack up easier, tangle less and I don't notice them bouncing when I run. I'm not sure the sound quality has changed but I am impressed with the overall quality and fitment. I wish there was an elbow at the jack, but with different size cases and straps, the straight plug is probably more popular.

I purchased this cable after I accidentally cut the sheathing on the Westone epic cable that came with my W40 (westone actually replaced that cable BTW). Minor complaints are that L/R aren't marked so you have to experiment with your balance control to get it right. It also tangles very easily and is difficult to straighten once tangled. On the plus side it is so thin that I keep it on my body under my shirt at all times, draping the phones on each side of my neck so the tangling is only an issue when storing. For that I use a monitor saver, I wind the cable in a loop and put it in. When I take in out I am careful to keep the loop in tact between my fingers then unwind it. Doing this it hardly ever tangles. The cable itself is extremely well made, and appears to be handmade in Denmark I believe. I'm not sure what material the sheathing is made of, it's called linum, but seems very durable. It doesn't kink or show any signs of wear. They claim the dual version is stronger, however I have the single and am completely confident in it. Even though I have the new epic cable from westone I don't think I'll be going back to it.

Nice and light, and good sound, but very pricey and cables get easily tangled. Gave up trying to untangle and went back to original Westone cable that I had before.

I have already purchased four of these cables in various configurations (I own way too many IEMs) and I am extremely happy with them. They have salvaged some excellent IEMs that I wasn't wearing much because of cable comfort issues (Nuforce Primo 8 and Earsonics S-EM6). If they were available with FitEar connectors I would buy several more. Also, balanced terminations would be a nice option (3.5mm for HIFIMAN HM-901 and/or 2.5mm for Astell&Kern AK240). These cables are very thin and light. It's almost like being wireless. They seem to be very strong for their size. My only complaint is that they are a bit tangle-prone, but the benefits greatly outweigh this one drawback. Another benefit is that these cables make using certain small cases (Westone Monitor Vault much easier to use.

Merchant Response:

Thanks Bryce!

I purchased the ultra thin cables entirely on the recommendation of Earphone Solution. Having already invested in a pair of Westone UM Pro 50s it had not been my intention to spend anything further on upgrading the cable.

However adopting the 'in for a penny, in for a pound' philosophy I decided to go for it. I'm really glad that I did. The cables compliment the comfort of the. Westone earphones perfectly. The ultra thin cables really are incredibly thin (there's a clue in the title) and lightweight (no weight at all) and as such the comfort they provide cannot be bettered.

It does feel slightly disconcerting when you pick up the earphones with the ultra thin cables in place. Apart from the two in ear pieces there's just no weight at all, of course advantageous when wearing them.

The Ultra Thin cables are not cheap and can only be fitted to certain earphones. I would recommend anyone buying top-end earphones gives serious consideration to these cables. They are a great addition for quality headphones and well worth the money.

Another great recommendation from Earphone Solutions. Had they not brought them to my attention I wouldn't have made the purchase and this would have diminished my enjoyment and pleasure from my new Westone UM Pro 50s.

5 stars from me and a definite recommendation!

Best regards,

Chris Dale

Q.

Will these work with the Westone W40? What replacement cable would you recommend for the W40? Thank you.

asked by Carl Brauer

A.
Tech Support answered:
Yes, these are compatible with the W40. The cables are a matter of personal preference. Some customers prefer the dual over the single.
Q.

Could you explain the advantage/disadvantage of the dual vs. single cable?

asked by Carl Brauer

A.
Tech Support answered:
It will be a matter of personal preference because the sound quality does not get compromised. It's more of a durability matter. The dual will most likely last longer and it's also stronger because you have 2 wires braided instead of a single one.
Q.

Hello, wich one do I have to buy for mi UM 50 PRO? What's the difference between 1 and 2 pins?

asked by Arturo Domínguez

A.
Tech Support answered:
The cables with 2 pins will only fit certain Westone models (UM2 and UM3X with replaceable cables, W4r and ES series).
The cables that are compatible with your model - the UMPRO 50 - must have MMCX connectors. These can be seen here:

http://www.earphonesolutions.com/westone-mmcx-cable.html
Q.

How will these hold up to the rigors of everyday use (regular use, workouts, sleeping, etc...)?

asked by Matthew I

A.
Tech Support answered:
No complaints from our customers so far; they are doing the job just fine!
Q.

Do you make a short cable like 30" long for a armband?

asked by Kevin

A.
Tech Support answered:
No, unfortunately 30" cables are not available. We apologize for the inconvenience,
Q.

What is the difference between the balanced and non balanced options? I have SE535s and need a new cable. These look interesting.

asked by Jerome

A.
Tech Support answered:
The balanced cables have a 2.5 mm jack. The regular cables and most sources on the market offer a 3.5 mm jack/input.
