Decent earphones for the money...
By Pepijn from Tilburg, NL on September 16, 2009

Bought these as a 'hard use' set of earphones, for those moments I don't want to take any risks with my Westone UM3X, like when riding my bike or outdoors in bad weather. I won't compare the two, as that wouldn't exactly be fair.
The listening tests I based my opinion on were done with 2 music sources:
- Sansa Fuze 8GB digital audio player
- MSI Wind netbook, running Foobar 2000 with the Asio4all plugin sending the output to the earphones through a iBasso D2+ headphone amp-dac connected via USB.
Test tracks used (all in FLAC format):
- Juno Reactor - Pretty Girl
- Estatic Fear - A Sombre Dance Chapter IV
- Pink Floyd - Wish you Were Here
- Loreena McKennitt - Neverending Road
- Jean Michel Jarre - Equinoxe 4
- Alex Megane - Can I Get A Witness
- Dire Straits - heavy Fuel
I found the 'soft silicone' earpieces rather firm compared to those from Shure or AKG. I needed to use the small size, while I usually get the best fir with medium. The medium sized just wouldn't stay put.
The sound is ok, there's quite a bump in the bass and the mids tend to drown each other out at higher volumes. But you can crank up the volume quite high before distortion becomes noticable. While the soundquality isn't the best there is, it is certainly acceptable for earphones in this price category.
The build quality is good, although there's no stressrelief at the usualbending points. The wire is thick and rubbery and seems of decent quality. The manual states that it's suitable for both cable down and over-the-ear wearing. But the wire is so stiff it will pull the earbud out of your ear when worn over the ear with incorrectly sized earpieces. Once fitted properly, this problem doesn't occur and the over-the-ear way of wearing does help a lot against cable microphonics.
All in all quite nice for the money. For many people this will be a huge upgrade over the buds that came wit their mediaplayer. For others it can serve as a decent back-up or 'hard use' earphone.
Pros:
build quality
price
Cons:
stiff silicone earpieces
stiff cableI would recommend this item to a friend.
