Sound good but going on 3rd pair in 5 months
By Jim from NYC on May 11, 2009

Ultimate Ears sound great, but I am in the process of getting my third pair since January. I live in NYC and use them daily, but I take care of them and they just don't hold up. The sound starting cutting out of one ear out of the blue, tried swapping the sides as it recommends to no luck. Got a new pair fairly quickly, but about 2 months later, same problem. Not recommended
Pros:
Good sound, comfortableCons:
Wire is not sturdy, if they lost longer than 6 months I'd be amazed. No Bass

Indescribably these headphones have almost no bass, when compared to other add on headphones but even when compared to original ipod headphones. I am returning them, they are awful.
Needs redesigned

Well, I purchased the UE Super.fi3s due to a great price point and many reviews. However, after a week of ownership, decided to return for the Westone UM1's. The UM1's are hands down much more comfortable. Stay more secure in the ear, and have a good quality of sound. The Ultimate ears design of being elongated and sticking out of the ear may be fine if your a "Teletubby" but not for us motorcycle helmet wearers. Also, I work-out fairly aggressively and the UE's just never felt secure. I think the design crew at UE needs to take some design lessons from Westone.
Also, what is with the semi-rigid PVC wire of the UE's?? I sell polymers for a living and give koodoos to the Westone designers incorporating the twisted design in the cord which allows much more flexiblity in the cord thus allowing the cord to lay flat against the body.
Bottom line is Ultimate Ears has not had the experience in design, etc that Westone has and it plainly shows in their product.
Truly amazing

I received my pair or earphones today and it is really, really great! I had the shure E2 before and the cable broke due to the low quality of the cable.
So I bought the Ultimate Ears since it is possible to change the cable of the phones but I don't think it'll be necessary for the quality of the cable is way better than the Shure quality. The end of the cable (near the earphones) is very thick and the whole earphone is very well build.
The soundquality is stunning though the bass is not as strong as with the Shure E2 (it's still very good)
I recommend buying these earphones very much for the quality of the material and sound very remarkable! Two big thumbs up!

For those of you who are skeptical about these, I will say this: I'm a musician, and a music lover. These units have great response. It is what you would call flat, across the board. When you hear an instrument played through these, the reproduction is not weighted towards any end of the spectrum.
This allows you to EQ in most any sound you would like without having to make sacrifices elsewhere.
I have used the shure products, and the ety's. For the money, this one fit my needs the best.
The KOSS sparkplugs are a very inexpensive compliment to these when I want hard-core bass and am willing to sacrifice proper response.

Service: The first pair sent to me the left channel did not work. Earphone Solutions quickly accepted the returned pair and replaced... also knocked the price down to the revised price of $69.00 from $74.00. Great Job Earphone Solutions! Rating = 5 stars
Product: Unbelievable pair of headphones. I use these earphones with my ipod Nano (4 gig). Virtually all of my selections are copied from CD using Apple Lossless Encoder for the best quality. The Super.fi 3’s display fantastic clarity and very good bass, right out of the box. The sound is fluid and never harsh. This is a quality product in every way: gold plated headphone connector, thick cord, high quality plastic, and plenty of silicon caps to get the right fit. Cleaner and hard shell case is a real plus. I found these headphones to be very easy to fit into my ear and I was able to get a good seal straight off. VERY COMFORTABLE! No problem at all jogging with these in. Rating = 5 stars
Value: There simply is no better value for “in-ear”, audiophile quality headphones. For about $75.00 including shipping (which was very quick using priority mail) you cannot do better. Rating = 5 stars
Bottom Line: I love my Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 earphones from Earphone Solutions!

You do get what you pay for. If you want deep bass out of a pair of little, tiny earphones, pay up for the 5EB and use them instead of some obnoxious car system eveyone else has to hear (c)rap from. These are excellent phones that fit me fine, but I do hear flaws in recordings I hadn't heard before.

I was excited about getting these, but what I ended up getting was decent mid and highs with crappy bass...not worth it unless you are only interested in listening to crystal clear christmas bells...

I think this is a great product for hearing.Although it is not really awesome on bass, it doesn't mean it is bad.Actually it's fantastic sound fits me very well.I think I love it very much, because I'm not a bass man.I love its quallity of sound. You can hear every instrument in your ipod clearlly.Remember, bass doesn't mean anything to sound quallity, bass is only a part of a pair of earphone. If you are a bass person, take a sony's EX71 or a KOSS.

Nice sound and fit. I think the key to full bass reproduction is proper fit. Experiment with the different size inserts and position. I tries the Shure e6 and like these better.

I bought these thinking I was going to get really good sound. Unfourtunately they only offer sub-par tone. Bass is weak while mids/highs are strong. If your musical taste is in the rap/R&B vein you should skip these. Even rock/metal. Jazz, vocal, classical, country music might benefit from these. Just remember, you do get what ya pay for.
