TRUE-FIT Foam Tips - 5 Pair Pack Eartips for All Shure and Westone Review by Earphone Solutions

Unfortunately we did not like these eartips for 2 reasons: the material is too soft and the core is a bit too short allowing the eartips' opening to be squeezed shut if you push the earphones too far in or depending on your ear anatomy. We experienced this issue with the Green and Black sizes. Others we had no issues. It also depends on the person's ear canal shape and size whether or not you will have this problem.

As a long time Comply tip and Westone IEM user, I had high expectations for this product from Westone. While they are reasonably durable, I found that they just don't seal as well as the Comply or the Sure.

One of the things that I love about Westone earphones is that they come with an array of two types of ear tips and several different sizes of each. Obviously the type and size of ear tip you pick is strictly a personal decision, but I find that the large size true-fit type tips work best for me. Extremely comfortable with virtually complete noise isolation.

True-Fit vs Comply

First of all, there seems to be some confusion among these reviews- some of the older ones appear to be for Comply tips. This review is for the newer True-Fit tips from Westone. I used Comply tips daily for about 3 years, and now I've been using True-Fit daily for about a year. Here's what I've learned: for the first 48 hours of the tips' lives, the Complys are the superior tip. As probably anybody who would bother to read a review on earphone tips would know, there is no greater joy in the whole world than the feeling when you use fresh Comply tips for the first time. After those first 48 hours (or first few uses, whatever) though, the True-Fit is the superior tip. I suppose this all comes down to the fact that the True-Fit is the more durable tip. The tips give me identical acoustic response, nearly identical comfort (maybe an ever so slight edge to Comply on comfort), and identical isolation, but I always found that a Comply tip lost that new-tip magic within a few days of use. In contrast, I swear that the True-Fit tip actually sounds best after a couple days' use. That probably sounds crazy, but it just seems that True-Fit "breaks in" so to speak after a day or so and creates a better seal. My one major beef with the True-Tip is that the bore holes are not wide enough if seems. For me, it's always my right ear- upon initial insertion, the bore hole is almost always squished shut within my ear, and it requires some wiggling and pulling to get it to open up while maintaining a seal. Not a deal breaker, but it can be quite frustrating. That one will vary ear-to-ear I suppose. All in all, you can't beat the Complys fresh out of the box, but unless you have an unlimited budget for new tips, the True-Fit is probably the tip for you. Pro-tip: I find the best way to wash my tips is to toss them in a water bottle about half-full of warm water with some dish soap in it. Put the lid on and shake it like crazy for a minute. Rinse well, then dry overnight. It doesn't make them "like new", but it definitely extends the life of the tips.

I've always preferred the audio quality of my W4R with foam tips. So when it was time to change the tips due to wear and tear, I picked these replacements. They sound good. I think I used the same size as the original but somehow they seemed bigger in ear and hurt quite a bit. Planning to see if I can science the hell out of them so that they don't hurt.

I've spent a couple of hundred of dollars on other foam tips over the course of owning IEMs like the W4, the W4R, the UM3X RC, and most recently the W60. Out of all the different foam tips, Westone has gotten it right with the True-Fit foam tips. They are thicker feeling than Comply tips, but have more give than the Shure Black Olives, giving them the best of both worlds. They also seem to last longer than Complys, but fit just as well. Currently using the black True-Fit tips with my W60s and I love them.

Have tried all sorts of tips. When I would get them to fit to seal would work well but this at least for me was a pain. These are marvelous and more comfortable than my customs. I have the large ones and slide in and seal with perfection. About 70 percent of the isolation of my customs. Definitely recommend and have tried them all. Pros: Easy seal every time and large size which fits me perfect. Cons:

These eartips feel very similar to the grey ones that came with my Westone UM3X. The surface is a little bit like the SHURE olives but its a bit softer. In terms of size, the green roughly corresponds to the smallest eartips that westone gave me. Overall, awesome product and I would buy again :) Pros: Cons:

Bought for my Westone1. After using the Comply I will never go back to using the silicone ones. Better sound isolation, they stay in my ear and they are comfortable. Better overall sound when using them. Only problem is they don't last very long and breakdown faster than the Shure Olive eartips. Pros: - great sound isolation - comfortable - improves bass Cons: - don't last as long as the Shure Olives

These tips do a very good job of creating a seal and also have isolation. They're definitely very comfortable and make it easier for me to forget that I even wearing my Westone 4's. The negative would be that they easily decay and need to be cleaned and replaced often...otherwise these are great products. Pros: Easy on the ears...great isolation Create a great seal Cons: Need to be cleaned and replaced very often...which can get expensive if constantly replaced

I bought a pair of Westone 3's a few months back, and the first thing I did was try out all the different tips the earphones were packaged with. There were clear, firm plastic tips, soft black rubber bulbs, triple-flange tips, and then the Comply tips. The Comply tips were far and away the most comfortable, providing the best seal without muddying the sound at all. I can wear the earphones for hours on end and barely notice they're in there. Pros: Comfort beyond anything I've known in earphones or headphones of any size. Excellent seal without compromising sound quality. Low price means I can replace freely whenever I want to. Cons: It does get dirty much easier than the other tips, I'm guessing because it's a porous foam. Unless you regularly clean your ears and wipe down the tips, it's likely you will see some semi-permanent discoloration in the tips after extended use. I understand the crud buildup can sometimes degrade the sound quality of the earphones, though I personally haven't noticed any.

I like em a lot. I have westone created custom molded inserts for my earphones as well as these complys. Surprisingly, the complys get a similar amount of isolation as the molds. The difference is, the molds can be a bit noisy if you're using them while being active. (i.e. exercising etc.) When I use them as monitors while playing music, I use the custom molds. Exercising, the complys. I will be buying more when these get cruddy! Pros: Cons:

These tips are by far the best comply tips i have ever used. Unlike the shure olives, they compress more and easier. They are much softer and are very very comfortable. They are perfect for the Westone 3s because the absorb some of the earpiercingly sharp highs making the sound less engaging and better for sleeping.(makes sound easier to fall asleep to) These are the best tips when it comes to comfort. Pros: comfort is very good. It is the best tip for people who sleep with the earphones. Cons: get ruined after some time and cost is not too cheap when you need to replace them often.

These are the exact replacements for the foam eartips that originally came with my Westone UM-2's. I've had my UM-2's for about 2 years and they're the best earbuds I've ever used. Each set of tips lasted me well over one year, even with daily use. Cleaning with soap and water is necessary from time to time. I found that doing this more often than absolutely necessary lead to accelerated wear to the foam on my first pair, so I recommend not overdoing it. It can sometimes be difficult to get all of the soap out when rinsing, so be patient when doing so. Pros: As long as they're treated with due care, these tips seal very well and last a long time. They're a lot more comfortable for me than the rubbery silicone type of tips, as well. Cons: None, really. They're a bit expensive but I'm unaware of anything else that works as well as the Comply tips.

I used to use the comply tips for all the Shure's and UM2 earphones I have, until the next best thing came out - Shure's black foam. Anyway, I recently found another use for the comply tips, I use it with UE Triple.fi and 5 Pro, Yes. I did!!! I just remove the plastic tube out, it's quite easily to do so, just make sure that you are careful and gentle, so you won't take much of the foam out too while you removing the tube out. (I can't remove the plastic tube from Shure's black foam, the glue is too good, it's basically impossible.) And since UE's nozzle is about more than twice the size of all the Shure's and Westone's nozzles, the UE's nozzle just hold up the comply tips nicely and firmly, without you worry that it will come out or loose when you insert into or remove from your ears. If the short comply tips too short for you, and it probably might, then just use the standard (the long one) and if it's too long, for me, I just cut it, but it's longer than the short one, kind of in the middle of those two lengths. Even if your cut is not straight, don't worry, it takes practice, but it still looks hundred times better than UE"s own foam tips with my crooked cut, and much more comfortable and the sound, just improve so amazingly and the bass is more bassy, and the clarity and detail also improve. And I can wear UE's earphones longer without tired my ears down like before with the silicone tips. I'd been using the silicone tips from Shure and UE for over a year now, and it worn my ears down, I mean, to use this kind of earphones, you must have a perfect seal, and perfect seal from all these silicone tips can mean suction, and suction can mean pressure, and that can mean your ears are not so happy, and they're trying to tell you through pain, fatigue, and exhuastion etc. But all the foam tips won't give you that kind of situation. I am not audiologist, I have no scientific datas to back me up, but these are my ears, I know how they feel, when they have pains or no pains! So, now I just use Shure's new wonderful black foam for all Shure and Westone. And I use comply tip for all the UE. And earphonesoulution.com got the best of price in the comply tips, other places are quite ridiculous of how much they want to sell you. Try this out, and your ears will love and thank you! and you also have more years to enjoy your music and your earphones. Pros: Cons:

Bought these to go with my E3Cs and I'm so glad I did. Light-years more comfortable than any of the non-foam tips that were included, and more comfortable than Shure's yellow foam tips. I find both sizes to be comfortable in my ear and provide great sound, so since the shorter ones provide a smaller profile, I'll stick with them. Worth every penny, and earphonesolutions.com's price and service was excellent. Pros: Cons:

I use these with my Etymotic ER4. Much softer, smoother, denser, and better isolating than the stock foamies, and far more comfortable than the Tri-flanges. I also used them with my E4Cs when I had them. They are the BEST tips for use on any IEM that will take them, bar none. Pros: Cons:

I recently purchased Shure E4C's and tried all the different tips that came with them. While the yellow foam tips, produced the best sound of the bunch, the bass was still lacking. These tips add more richness and warmth to my music and are MUCH more comfortable - Bonus. I bought a set of standard fit and a set of short fit. I like the short ones better because they don't stick out as far. Earphone Soluitons was great to do business with - the product arrived a day ahead of their promise. Pros: Cons:

WoW,these canal tips are awesome. What a difference they make, music sounded tighter and they produced more bottom end.I have been using the yellow foam ones for a year now and I feel I have been at a disadvantage. I just hope they last a longer then the yellow foam ones do.There only down side is the price. But worth giving them a try. Thanks Earphone solutions. Pros: Cons:

These blow away any other tip I've tried for the e4's. They are MUCH more comfortable than the yellow foams, and they are made of a soft material rather than scratchy porus foam. They also seem to cut off more sound because they are larger and form an excellent seam. Pros: Cons:

Flavio, You have proven yourself to be a wealth of information and experience. I am a musician (guitarist/vocalist) who has been using Shure E1's for the last 2 years, and wanted better isolation, better quality sound, and more comfort over the stock yellow foams. Playing in a 10-piece horn band can be LOUD on stage. Your recommendation of trying the Comply Canal Tips has proven to be the perfect solution. I wasn't getting enough isolation because the band was still so loud with the yellow foams that I had to turn up the E1's louder than I wished to hear my mix. I already have Tinutus, my ears ringing constantly from 40 years of playing rock music. The Comply foams isolate me to the point that it sounds like I'm in an isochamber in a recording studio. I still hear the band, but at a greatly reduced muffled volume, so that whatever mix I put into my earphones doesn't have to blow my head off. It's a comfortable volume that I can play 4 hours a night with. The greatly improved level of comfort makes the 4 hours easy to deal with. Before, with the yellows, after about 3 hours, my ears started feeling irritated and uncomfortable. The Comply's also seal much tighter in my ears, so bass response, and thereby overall sound quality is greatly improved. I've tried everything I could think of; doubling the yellow foams, hunter's foams from a gun shop cut to fit the E1's, every silicone and rubber tip available, but nothing comes close to the Comply Canal Tips. If you're reading this and are thinking of trying them, I guarantee you'll be amazed at how much better they are. I was initially skeptical, after trying everything else I didn't think anything would make much difference, but I was wrong. Thank you Flavio for your advice and experience. You have my business for life. Richard Harris www.bitsandpiecesband.com Pros: Cons:

I've tried a variety of options on my Shure E3's and these are my current favorite. They fit my ear canals the best and: spring back to shape better than the Shure foam sleeves, are more comfortable than the triple flange sleeves, and provide better sound isolation that the soft flex sleeves. I use the standard size. Pros: Cons:

These work very well with my Shure E3 buds. They're perfect for the long flights or noisy coffee shops where you need to cut out ambient noise. They're comfortable and the tight seal allows better base response. They will lose their ability to tightly expand after a few months of use, but these are an expendable item so you expect it to wear out. Pros: Cons:

A good tip solution for the UM2. The longer the tip, the tighter the saeal and the more bass you'll get. Very comfortable for long periods. Pros: Cons:
