I never realized there was so much sound in there, even though I had listened to that recording maybe a dozen times. Even though this was recorded 50 years ago, the experience was electrifying. And I have a wonderful sound system with truly outstanding speakers. These little black (Chinese) earphones exposed more detail than I have ever heard.

• "...glad we worked everything out. here's my review of the ultimate ears super.fi 5 pro earphones ... -- I'm not a serious ipod guy. I'm more of a stereo guy. Most of my ipod material is audiobooks. I recently decided to learn about high-end earphones, to see if they made a difference over the stock earphones, which hurt my ears. I tried the UM1s, and they were a lot better than my Apple earphones, but they kept working themselves loose. I took a chance on the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 pro and recently took them out for their maiden voyage. I can sum up the experience in two words:
  Life. Changing.
  It's hard to explain the religious experience I was having as I got on the bus and was transformed by the two-driver sound of these earphones. They made me realize I'd been listening in black and white, listening underwater, listening to MP3 files but not music. I never really had a pair of high-end headphones, so this was the first time when the music was actually coming from the center of my head and radiating out in all directions. A very different experience from the stereo "staging" effects I get from my speakers. I was transfixed. I had to turn the volume down several times, because I didn't need to compensate for poor sound with volume any more. These headphones are reason enough to go buy more music. Now I pity the people listening on their earphones in the subway - they are all in Flatland and I'm in the third dimension.
  
  There's life before the UE SF 5s, and there's life after. I'm thinking I should get a second pair as a backup, because if I manage to lose these puppies I'll be in withdrawal for several days waiting for a new pair.
  
  An MP3 player is pretty much just a hard disc and some controls. Contrary to my initial reaction to $200 earphones, you should want to pay more for your earphones than for the player. The player delivers the files; the earphones deliver the music.
  
  I don't know about other 2-driver earphones, and I'm afraid to try the 3-driver ones for fear that I'll never stop. But at the moment, if there are stages of heaven, I'm happy to be on the first floor."

• "I bought the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro earphones and althought they were pricier than I thought Id ever spend on earphones, it was the best decision I think I could have ever made. They sound GREAT!!! These are no ordinary earphones! You can really hear the highs and they have the greatest bass without distortion Ive ever heard in earphones. You do have to make sure you are getting a good seal to hear that really low bass. I, like others Ive read about in their reviews, could hear things in the music that I had never heard before, even on CDs Ive owned for years. They do take a little bit of getting used to in the way of choosing which are the best fitting inserts, but right out of the box they sounded AWESOME! Ive been using mine on the new (05/06) Toshiba Gigabeat 60Gig player for about 4 weeks and have been thoroughly pleased with the pairing. In the 8 years or so I have ordered merchandise this way, I have to tell you that you and your firm are far and away the best I have ever dealt with.
  
  Initially, I was drawn to your firm because of a ridiculously low price for the Shure E5c earphones. They arrived in two days (from FL to CA) and I found them to be new, sealed and fabulous, even as compared to my E2c phones. After less than a week, one of the ear pieces cracked. I phoned your customer service line and was told to leave a message for a callback. This is usually a terrible sign, as one often never hears back. In this case, I was contacted in less than half an hour!
  
  Your representative was understanding, friendly and very helpful. He asked that I send back the damaged set, and when he received them, he would send out a new set. I settled down for a two or three week wait. Less than a week after the initial phone call, a new set of phones arrived; again, brand new and in a sealed package.
  
  It is rare to find service AND value in the same place. You guys have done it!

• "I gave them a 3 for ease of purchase only because of sale price advertising restrictions that the product manufacturer has in place (you have to send an email to the merchant requesting a coupon code, or else you have to pay full MSRP for the product). Shipping was surprisingly fast. They do a very good job of explaining how to use their products, and what accessories will work with the product you have. One small issue though (not really the merchants fault), if you have your item shipped via USPS, you may as well disregard the tracking webpage that youll get a link to. In my case the page wasnt updated until 5 hours after I had received my purchase, letting me know that the package had been shipped. Great experience overall!"
  
  
• "I got into canal earphones a few weeks ago having struggled with my iPod earbuds and given up on them. Too uncormfortable and they kept falling out of my ears, though the sound was fine.   It was amazing. I slipped them in at first go - no discomfort - and when I pressed go on the iPod the sound was superb. Bliss. Unbelievable. I listened for a full 90 minutes on that first go and I had no trouble.
  
  Its a week later. Still no problems, no difficulties (they slide into my ears no trouble) and still that fantastic sound. They have been terrific from moment one. I prefer the flanges to the foam, but in both cases the sound is great.

I received them the following Friday as promised, in spite of hurricane Charley coming towards you. When I called to check on the delivery that week, you immediately responded and told me correctly that delivery was only hours away! I am impressed with your service.
  
  However, what impressed me even more were the earphones. They are FANTASTIC! Although it was suggested that it might take up to 7 days to get used to them, it took me ten minutes. I do agree with your review that the foam sleeves are the best way to go if you want total sound isolation. Use the other sleeves for when you need to hear a bit of what is going on around you.
  
  Here is an example of this: I was laying down and enjoying the wonderful clarity and sound quality of some classical music in my backyard when I started to smell gasoline fumes. After a few minutes I took the earphones out and discovered the source: my neighbor was mowing his lawn!. I had heard absolutely nothing other than my music. A bit of heaven!
  
  I own two varieties of Sony’s sound canceling earphones and have recently tried out Bose’s version. What a waste of money. They really don’t do a thing more than a pair of good tight fitting “ear buds” would do. And they even need batteries to do it.
  
  The SHURE E3c is also wonderful for those of us with a few years behind us whose hearing isn’t what it used to be. These earphones let me hear details and clarity of sound that I can only experience by turning up my regular sound system to a level that wouldn’t be fun for anyone else. I can’t tell you how much intense enjoyment I have already had from a few days of these earphones, listening to my favorite CD’s, mini discs etc.
  
  Another great application for these SHURE E3c’s earphone is for people who are bedridden, recovering in bed or in a hospital. Hospitals are notorious for the din around patients. A recent survey showed that the noise levels are actually negatively affecting patients’ recovery. These earphones would be a “God sent”. And what is so neat, the earphones do not interfere with sleeping on your ears. You can actually fall asleep to the music without interference from the earphones. Try that with any other system.
  
  These earphones may not be for every one. Some people may have a problem with “in-ear” sleeves, have trouble with the “over the ear” cords or don’t mind having a regular style earphone on their head but for those people who crave real sound isolation and absolutely gorgeous sound, swallow when you see the price and treat yourself.
