Overview

Shure SE846 Bronze Earphones

Shure SE846-BNZ Sound Isolating Earphones

Built with balanced armature speakers, the Shure Sound Isolating Earphones provide an exceptional listening experience free from distracting outside noise. Detachable cables, adapters, carrying cases, interchangeable eartips, and nozzle inserts are included to make listening enjoyable, convenient, and customized.

Selecting an Eartip for the SE846 Bronze

It’s important to choose an eartip that provides the best possible sound isolation and a secure fit. The proper eartip will fit comfortably, allow for extended wear, and be easy to insert and remove.

Triple Flange Eartips These eartips can be be trimmed for a custom fit by carefully  cutting the tips’ stems.

Soft Foam Eartips The soft foam eartips can be compressed between your fingers and then inserted into the ear canal for an ideal fit. Make sure to hold the eartips in place for approximately ten seconds to ensure the foam expands for a custom fit.

Soft Flex Eartips These tips are made from soft, pliable rubber and come in three sizes; small, medium, and large.

Fitting the SE846BNZ Earphones

You should wear the earphones just like earplugs with a tight acoustic seal to ensure maximum bass.

  1. Choose the proper eartip for a personalized fit. If the eartip is not forming a tight seal there may be a lack of low frequency response (bass). Consider trying different eartips until you are pleased with the sound quality.

  2. Insert the eartip firmly into the ear and place the cable over and behind the ear. Positioning the cable in this manner will help secure it during physical activity.

  3. Use the cable cinch to tighten the fit and take up slack.

Changing the Eartips

  • Carefully twist and pull the existing tip away from the nozzle.

  • Slide the new eartip on to the nozzle, making sure it completely covers both the nozzle and the barb.

  • Check to make sure the eartip is properly installed and replace tips that do not grip the nozzle tightly. Use only Shure eartips unless using custom molded tips.

Removing the Earphones

To remove Shure earphones from the ear gently grasp the body and twist to remove. Be careful not to pull on the cable to remove the earphone.

Detachable Cable

The Shure cable can be easily detached to add optional components or for replacement purposes. The connector offers a snug fit to ensure accidental separation doesn’t occur. When detaching the cable make sure to:

  • Avoid using pliers or other hand tools.

  • Grasp the earphone and cable connector as close to the joint as possible.

  • Pull straight apart to protect all components and avoid pulling on or putting any pressure on the nozzle.

  • Match the ‘L’ and ‘R’ markings or the red and blue dots (depending on the earphone model) when reattaching the cable.

  • Listen carefully for a click to ensure a proper connection.

Earphone Cleaning and Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance is vital to ensuring your Shure earphones remain in excellent condition. Taking care of your earphones helps maintain a tight seal, improves sound quality, and keeps the components safe.

  • Keep the eartips, earphones, and cables clean and dry. Wipe off excess sweat and moisture as needed.

  • Eartips should be removed and cleaned on a regular basis. Simply rinse in warm water and then let them completely dry before using again.  Regularly inspect for damage and replace as needed.

  • Infections of the ear may occur if earphones are not properly cleaned and dried. Earphones and eartips may be wiped with a mild, non-alcohol based antiseptic.

  • Avoid exposing Shure earphones to extreme temperatures and excessive moisture.

  • Attempts to modify the earphones will void the warranty and may result in product failure or ear injury.

Nozzle Cleaning

A thorough cleaning of the earphone’s nozzle may be necessary if a change in sound quality is noticeable. To determine if cleaning should occur simply remove the eartip and and check the nozzle for any blockage. Clear these obstructions carefully and replace the eartip.

Changing the Nozzle Insert on the new SE846-BNZ

There are three different varieties of nozzle inserts available to provide customizable frequency responses for a personalized listening experience. Properly replacing and cleaning the nozzle insert will help ensure the Shure earphones continue to provide exceptional performance and sound quality.

Blue nozzle insert A balanced sound signature with a neutral response. The earphones are shipped with the blue nozzle insert installed.

White nozzle insert A bright sound signature with a +2.5 dB (1 kHz to 8 kHz).

Black nozzle insert A warm sound signature with a -2.5 dB (1 kHz to 8 kHz).

Removing the nozzle insert

  1. The earphone nozzle contains small parts. Make sure you are working on a proper surface before disassembling.

  2. Use the key counter by turning it counter clockwise to loosen and remove the threaded collar.

  3. Carefully pull the nozzle with your fingers to gently remove.

  4. Grasp the end of the nozzle insert with your fingers to slide it out. Don’t use your teeth or any tools as this may damage the insert.

Reassembling the nozzle

  1. Slide the new insert into the nozzle without forcing it. If it doesn’t slide easily it needs to be repositioned to ensure it is properly seated.

  2. Reinsert the nozzle into the earphone by aligning the dots with the keyed opening.

  3. Place the threaded collar over the nozzle and use the nozzle key to gently turn it clockwise.

  4. If there is any resistance during turning stop and check to make sure all components are properly aligned. Make sure the insert is fully seated in the nozzle and the nozzle is properly seated in the housing with the dots aligned.

  5. Once you are confident all components are properly seated use the key to tighten the collar just enough so it won’t loosen during normal use.

Airline Adapter

The airline adapter accessory is designed for compatibility with in-seat entertainment systems on certain airlines. It is a dual-mono adapter plug that easily connects with Shure earphones.

Inline Attenuator

The design of Shure earphones ensures that noise volume levels and audio are increased equally. If the earphone volume is turned down noise will remain at the same level. The EA650 inline attenuator reduces the overall level of the noise and the music simultaneously while keeping the music above the noise.

Road case

Your Shure earphones are best protected when kept in the crush resistant, water resistant road case. Pressure changes during air travel may create a vacuum seal that can make the case difficult to open. Use a coin or flat surface to carefully pry the case open. You can prevent this from happening by placing the attached carrying cord in the case before closing and leaving the clasp open.
