Excellent earphones
By Endi from Montreal, Quebec on May 27, 2011

I received these earphones about a month ago, and as the title indicates, I find them to be really great.
The design allows them to remain flush with the surface of your ears and provides a stable fit. I personally use the black foam tips and find them to be comfortable to wear for a few hours (although it did take 2 or 3 days to get used to them)
The sound quality is amazing with the mids and highs being the strong points. The bass is present and noticeable but sometimes lacks a bit of punch in some electronic & hip hop tracks (Rock music is perfect when paired with these eaphones)
Build quality leaves no room for improvement, as Shure didn't cut any corners here. Cable is thick and flexible (and replaceable!) and the earphones themselves are solid. The one thing I do not like is the fact that they come with a soft carrying case, which seems to offer almost no protection when compared to the hard cases Shure used to have. It's a carrying case, not a protective case
Pros:
Great sound
Great build quality
Good value for money
2 year warranty
replaceable cable with good connectorsCons:
Soft carrying case

I rreally wanted to like these
By Mark from Indiana on October 25, 2011

Having a pair of Shure E2C's for years, and after countless solder, and patch repairs on them, I decided to crack open my wallet and buy a new pair. I researched and read, and looked, and him-hawed back and forth, until I decided I would try the 315's. If I liked them, move up to the 425's.
I came home early from work, so I could sign for them, and get to work listening. The foam tips preinstalled, mediums, would not seal, so I went to try another smaller set. I ended up shredding the foam, as they had seemed to have melted to, or frozen to the stems. The first set of small rubber tips, didn't do the job either. To make matters worse, when I went to take them out, the left bud came off, wedged inside my ear canal. I had to wait an hour before my wife came home to retrieve it with a pair of tweezers.
The medium, large, small, foam, rubber, all failed to provide me with a good seal.
I sent for an RA, and received one, hating knowing I was about to lose money on an ill fitting product. Then to add insult to injury, the dog found the box, with the spare tips in it, and tore it to shreds. So now I am stuck with a pair of ear buds that will never be used.
Guess I will just have to repair the E2C's a few more times until I find someone who will let me audition a good pair.
Pros:
They look cool, that's it!Cons:
Couldn't get a solid seal, no matter which set of buds I used.
Painful when in my ear for more than 5 minutes due to the housing pressing against the outer ear.Excellent earphones

These were exactly what I wanted. I am so pleased with them. I play drums and these earphones allow me to hear my clicks or music from the other band members.

Great bang for your buck
By Daytrader415 from New York on October 9, 2011

I have been a Shure customer for 7 years, and I can say from experience that these are really solid earphones. I started off with the E4c's, and I can say that this model is definitely a step up.
I was debating whether I should get the 2 series, 3/4/5, and then I realized that after using something for more than 3 months, the feeling of buying a higher up model diminishes when you are already at a premium brand.
As such, I feel that the 3 series will give me the best bang for the buck. While the 4 and 5 might be "better" in terms of specs, I ask myself - will I really hear music that much better if I have 2 drivers, or even 3 drivers, as opposed to one?
All in all, I am satisfied with my purchase and look to be a repeating customer of Shure and Earphonesolutions in the future.
Pros:
Great bass
Clear sound
Wearing comfort
New deisgnCons:
Can be burdensome at times to put on, as you have to loop around ear.
Easily gets tangled with other things in a bag...using the case is necessaryI would recommend this item to a friend.

Solid feeling, good fit, but the sound...
By Michael Leung from New York on August 16, 2011

Starting with the strong points, I was quite impressed with the design and build quality of these earphones. They felt very well built and durable, sit relatively flush in my ear, and the replaceable cables that allow rotation/swiveling are definitely a nice touch as I've had many earphones fail in that area (and to my chagrin usually after the warranty expires and/or losing the receipt). It has the balanced armature trait of being very detailed and precise throughout the range it reproduces. If I had to nitpick, I would say the smallest rubber eartips could be a tad smaller or made of a softer material as I noticed a bit of discomfort with extended wearing since I have small ear canals and usually use the smallest tips on any earphone. The memory wire in the cable could be a bit stiffer to hold its shape better. Inserting them is a bit difficult, but felt really secure especially if you wear them with the cable routed behind your head with the cable coupler thing snugged up close to your neck.
Ultimately I had to exchange them mainly because the sound was just not my cup of tea. The tonal balance sounded really off to me, with a very prominent midrange, especially lower midrange. It sounded pretty good with Rock, but other genres weren't as good including Classical. A lot of times female vocals had an almost cupped hands and in your face sound instead of just being up close. Bass was also lacking, but mainly because of the strong midrange, if I had the volume up to where the bass was "fun" the midrange became overpowering and overall SPL too loud but if the midrange was right the bass was anemic. They did seem to need some time to break in, at first listen the bass seemed totally missing but even after hours of use the bass only improved marginally. Details in the highs were nice, they did not seem nearly as lacking as the bass relative to the midrange and I never noticed any harshness.
Pros:
Solid build quality, great design ergonomically, replaceable cables that swivel, good selection of ear tips included, sound had the typical balanced armature detail to my ears.Cons:
Overall tonal balancevery clear sound

I have owned many Shure ear monitors over the years. The quality is great, support is terrific and the sound quality is wonderful.

Great stuff, a bit pricey
By Mark from East Coast USA on April 12, 2011

I tend to stick with Shure--I know what I'm going to get. It's so hard to judge headphones, particularly earbuds, because there is really no way to try lots of them out before buying. These were a trade-up from the EC3s. They're better. I just loved the clarity of sound, pure, unaffected, perfect. Modest bass--no problem there, I have no interest in having my ears blasted out--but it creates a feeling of someone performing in front of you. There is an impressive mid-range presence. You can't really go wrong here. These are terrific.
Pros:
Clear sound, impressive mid-rangeCons:
It takes a little while to get used to the fit and how to put them on--wrap over ear, use it like an earplug. I'm comfortable now and like it better than my old EC3s.I would recommend this item to a friend.
NICE BUT......

I'VE HEARD SOUNDS THAT I DIDN'T KNOW EXISTED ON SOME SOME SONGS I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO FOR YEARS. THESE EARPHONES DO REALLY ISOLATE THE SOUNDS. THEY ARE HOWEVER A LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE. THE PRICE IS LITTLE MUCH.
Pros:
IT TRULY ISOLATES SOUNDS.Cons:
AFTER A LITTLE WHILE THEY BECOME UNCOMFORTABLE.Merchant Response:
Hi Frances. Thanks for the feedback. Please make sure you are wearing them correctly by following the instructions on the enclosed booklet. I have own these and I find them extremely comfortable. Also make sure you are routing the cables behind the back of the ear towards the back of the head and lastly make sure the right earpiece is going in the right ear, left on left :) It's not uncommon for people to mix those up in the first few days.
Thanks again for your feedback! All the pros of Shure's lineup. Biggest con resolved

I've been using the SE315s for a good month and I'm totally enamoured of them. I've owned a couple of pairs in the past, and the sound quality is awesome - true highs, great bass.
My only complaint with the previous pairs is that the cords tend to fray or disconnect at the earbud (I'm hard on equipment), but thankfully this has been resolved with the 315s: the new cords have a much sturdier, moldable cord that can be disconnected from the earbuds, making for easier replacement.
Pros:
Quality construction, good sound quality, great sound isolation, good fit.I would recommend this item to a friend.
