5 stars for the price
By David from Virginia Beach, VA on October 15, 2011

It took a while (even thought I've had some experience with Shure before) to get the right fit. I have cavernous ear canals and required the largest soft rubber single flange tips. Once I got that and the whole bend the wire over the top of the ear thing worked out, I sat back to listen.
Shure has definitely done the audiophile on a budget a big favor. My prior favorite cans have been the Ety MC-5s; very neutral, but constricted, no soundstage at all. Everything's in your head. They are now my second favorite, however, because the Shures have the neutrality with more body and definition in the bass than the Etys at about $40 to $50 less. I like the replaceable cord (which is, as others have mentioned, a bit too long, but I imagine that is for pro musicians who have to run the cord to the wireless transceiver worn at the belt). They mate well with my iPod classics (I have 3 and almost all my music is lossless). I think I could actually sleep with them in my ears, although I probably won't. Great comfort when properly fitted.
I got a pair of the B&W C5s a few weeks ago (I am a headphone junkie). They cost considerably more and deliver considerably less in sound, comfort, and general usability.
I recommend these to people who don't mind fiddling around a little to get quality. Once you have set them up, they are pretty easy to put in and take out. At the price, I don't think anything out there can touch them.
Pros:
Bass, mids, highs
replaceable cord
fit
comfort
don't require special amplification
Cons:
cord length (buy a shirt clip)I would recommend this item to a friend.
Great Earphones!
By Bryan from Norwich, CT on October 7, 2011

I just recently purchased these earphones i was very excited for years I've been looking at Shure headphones and always wanted a pair but could never muster up the 100-200$ price tag. I finally bought them as I have had several cheaper pairs break/ sound like crap. When I first opened these I could tell they were of a VERY high quality build! Upon putting them on I realized didn't like them, they were uncomfortable kinda complicated to get routed and couldn't get a proper seal, so the bass response and noise canceling sucked. Over the next few days I went through almost all the ear pieces that come with them trying to get the right fit of comfort/noise canceling. On like the 4th day I tried them with the right size ear piece for my ear and now I absolutely LOVE them! I work next to a flight line and have a lot of down time these babies make it no problem to hear my music even at the lowest volume over the roar of the jets taking off/landing! Incredible sound although I wish there was a little more high range but overall just really great earphones!
Pros:
Block out ALOT of noise!
Great Bass!
Great build Quality, Seem like they will LAST!
Great Sound! Cons:
Hard to initially set up.
Wish they had a little more high end sound.I would recommend this item to a friend.
definitely a good buy, but a few hurdles
By Pete from Seattle on September 20, 2011

I've owned a pair of E2C's and E3C's, and was generally pleased enough with Shure to buy these for my gf. Out of the box, there is a moldable wire with an extra layer of insulation that is supposed to help seat these above the ear. The problem is that sometimes it's more desirable to seat them in the opposite direction/ears for ease of use. My gf hated it, so I had to gently strip the insulation and cut the wire, which was a bit nerve-wracking. I also bought a pair of Westone's, and immediately noticed the treble was extremely "bright" and almost off-putting by comparison. Sound quality is generally quite good, though, with my gf remarking how she notices things she's never heard before. Build quality also seems quite solid, with thick insulation on the wires and rotating/removable connectors to the ear buds.
Pros:
Build quality
Comfort
Sound detailCons:
Undesirable wire mold
Harsh trebleI would recommend this item to a friend.
Great Sound. Great Fit.
By Carl from IL on September 18, 2011

I picked these up to replace a set of older Shures I accidentally left on an airplane. They are fantastic! Very comfortable. They do a nice job of blocking noise. They provide a surprising level of base response. I'm very happy with my purchase.
Pros:
Sound. Fit. Cost.Cons:

Lasted only a few months
By Wilinsky from Seattle, WA on September 18, 2011

This earphone quit working while I was listening to music. Poof! No sound from one of the buds. The detachable cables were good to have, so that I could troubleshoot and figure out that the earbud was defective, not the cable. For the few months it was working, to me the sound was just OK. The bass was enhanced, but didn't sound good to me. My previous earphones were Etymotic-6i and Shure SCL4, both of which sounded better. A small crack appeared in the plastic of one of the cables near the earbud on the SCL4's. I thought maybe I cut it on something, but then a similar split appeared on the other cable. Now the first cable is about to break all the way through. I think I will try a different brand for my next pair.
Pros:
Inexpensive. Detachable cables.Cons:
Reliability. Bass heavy. Difficult to put in and get a good seal, even after several months of practice. Very Good pair of in-ears compared to Klipsch S4 (I owned both)
By Kenny K from Twin Cities MN on September 14, 2011

Compared this to Klipsch, IMO. these pair beat the S4 hands down! Klipsch is muddy and the bass is bloated and it is just not as defined and clear as E215. I would recommend the SE215 to anyone with budget below $100 for sure!
Pros:
clear and defined sound
good bass and overall sound
detachable in-ear speakers
Cons:
i need to really adjust the in ear speakers when i am working out or running, they become loose and fall out of my ears when sweatyI would recommend this item to a friend.
great for motorcycling
By Kurt from Denver Colorado on September 8, 2011

These earphones are excellent, especially for the price. I wear them under a motorcycle helmet, and the sound is good, comfort is excellent, and they are sturdy enough to take the punishment of taking my helmet off and putting it back on again repeatedly. Highly recommended.

Headphones Uncomfortable with Disappointing Sound Quality
By Marty from Rockville, MD on August 27, 2011

I've found the product to be uncomfortable and complicated to use. The over the ear fit does not work for me and the array of ear tips do not seal properly for my ears and cause headaches and discomfort. I even separately ordered the triple type ear tips that were not included after trying all the ones included and had a similar problem with ear soreness and head pain above and around the ears. The over the ear style does not stay secure on my shape ears so I've tried just wearing them like a typical earphone but that doesn't improve the fit, feel, sound or comfort. I switched from Etytomic to Shure but am switching back even though the overall solid construction and possibly the life span is inferior and shorter than the Shure SE215. The Etytomic Isolater ER6i is not as well constructed and doesn't last more than a year but has better sound and comfort for me.The Etytomic MC5 may be a better alternative as well. The ShureSE215 has been frusrtaing to use and very disappointing.
Pros:
I like the look of it and its solid cable and overall constuction.Cons:
Fit, lack of comfort, heaviness, over the ear style doesn't work for my shape ears, sound quality, complicated fitting and putting in the ear, diffuculty getting seal despite trying all tips and ordering ones not included. I plan on returning them. Not convinced
By Mark from Bedford, TEXAS on August 27, 2011

To be frank, I haven't been able to use them yet. The original pads are far too large to fit in my ears. Fortunately I saw the tip on freezing the Shures for 10-15 min and that allowed me to remove the black ones. Now I have a smaller size installed but the shape is so different from everything I've used in the past that I haven't been able to seat them correctly....and the stiff cable? It's so stiff it pulls the bud away from my ears! I'm regretting the $99 but also certain once I figure them out I'll love them. (sigh)
Pros:

WOW, I love these things. I leave my Bose at home now...
By Marty Haynes from Southern California on August 17, 2011

I am a headphone and earphone junkie with probably 10-15 sets including the ubiquitous BOSE sound-cancelling headphones I USED to take on my 2-3x monthly business trips. No more. Once I got the hang of how these fit around/in my ears I have had no complaint whatsoever. Great sound, great outside-sound-isolation and very comfortable fit. And, when in place, the clear ones are almost invisible. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Best I have heard under $100 and
By Clyde from NY on August 10, 2011

Great build quality, much better than my old E2c's (the ones with the cable cracking issue). I am quite surprised by their range and openness. I have not spent much more than $100 on canal phones so I cannot say what a second or third driver would add to the sound. As for fit, most professional (unless custom molded) fit the way the Shure’s do.

Shure SE215 headphones
By Todd from Milwaukee , WI on August 8, 2011

The Shure SE215 headphones produce clear crisp sounds . I recommend the shure 215 headphones
Pros:
Great sound Cons:

Very nice...I like.
By Chris Moss from Portland, Oregon on July 27, 2011

These Shure's sure beat the last pair I had. I can't remember the model, but my old ones had flimsy wires and no wire around the ear. The SE215 sound better in the bass department, and are more comfortable and durable than the last, which were much more expensive. It took some practice to find the right way to insert these since they were different, yet similar. I use yellow foam with these beautifully flush to the ears design. No brainer at this price!
Pros:
Everything (price, feel, sound, durability...)Cons:

Incredible sound for the price!
By FryGuy from Nova Scotia, Canada on July 26, 2011

This IEM (In-Ear-Monitor) is amazing sound and noise isolation. I mostly use these under my motorcycle helmet. Not only do they significantly reduce the wind noise and loud pipes to a moderate background level they let just enough other sounds in to hear your environment, car horns, loud holler, etc. I can listen to music clearly at less than 1/4 volume from an iPod classic on a motorcycle at highway speeds! I have used them to listen to music, Podcasts and audio books while mowing the lawn. Very comfortable fit but you must play with the Ear-Tips to find the right one to get a good seal and to be comfortable too, give it plenty of time (2-3 weeks) you wont regret it.
Pros:
Good External Noise Isolation/Reduction
Sound Quality (Bass/Mids/Highs)
Removable/Replaceable Cables
Flush In-Ear Fit
Durable Feel Cables
Comfortable Fit (Give it time and Play with Ear-Tips)Cons:
Cables are a bit Stiff
Cables are very long for my use
Foam type Ear-Tips are hard to change
Confusing how to wear at first (Left/Right and IEM orientation for cable)I would recommend this item to a friend.
Great for the price!
By Rob from Orange County, CA on July 25, 2011

I have read several positive reviews for these headphones and so I found them here on sale. I wish the bass was stronger, and the pods are a little hard to remove from the ear after prolonged use. Also, my ears tend to hurt a little after a half hour or so of use. That said, I enjoy them and would recommend them to others.
Pros:
Travel Case
Different pad sizes included
PriceCons:
Not enough bass
Hard to remove from earI would recommend this item to a friend.

bad sound quality before burn inI would recommend this item to a friend.
Bought them primarily for working out.
By Jose from Texas on July 24, 2011

There is a bit of a learning curve re: proper fit. Fidelity is not outstanding unless you have the proper fit, once you have accomplished that you will be impressed. Good bass and clear highs. Only drawback for me is that people do not realize how isolated you are from your surroundings while you have them on. When I'm working out I do not want to socialize and people don't understand that you really can't hold a conversation cause you cannot hear a thing. Works for me but you have to determine if that is a drawback for you. I love them
Pros:
Sound and noise cancelation. I would recommend this item to a friend.
Great quality for the price
By Carlo from Houston, Texas on July 17, 2011

Fast delivery, high grade material and construction, great noise isolation compared to other of the type, awesome bass response but not too tight as other more expensive models, fits comfortable for some time - then becomes a bit painfull - they feel like monitors, very long cable, does transmit noise through the cables but I don't mind at all, good not great low, mid frequencies. Highs are not bight enough but gets the job done... will save money to by the higher end ones from the same line, plus you can detach cables any time
Pros:
Long and sturdy cable
Great noise isolation
Detachable cables
Good fit
Good Bass and mids
Great for the priceCons:
Modest trebles
They do hurt after a while
Noise isolation plus loud volumes can get a bit- dangerous on the street

So far, a bad experience...
By Gregg from New York on July 16, 2011

I have not had a great experience with these headphones. Only after Three weeks of use, they started to short out in one ear, then both ears. I have now had to send them back for warranty service at my expense, again, only after Three weeks of use. While they did work, the sound is clear. good bass, and I like the size of the earpiece. The flexible wire keeps them firmly in place.
Pros:
Good, clear sound, flexible wire is a great idea.Cons:
That they cease to work only after Three weeks, and I only use them about 2 hours a day..Merchant Response:

FlavioWow! Better than SE535 or UM3X in some aspects?
By MIDIPanic from Midwest on July 11, 2011

I received my SE215’s today. WOW! I own a pair of triple driver SE535 and UM3X (which, BTW, I also purchased from Earphone Solutions). I ordered a couple of pairs of the SE215’s to loan to band mates if they need ears for a gig. Wow! Amazing SOUND and BUILD quality. The bass is immediately, noticeably better with this dynamic driver than with the armature drivers in my triple driver models above. With the 20% off sale for the 4th, I can’t believe they only cost me $80.00 apiece. I immediately tried to order several more pairs to give as gifts but discovered that the ‘FIREWORKS’ 20% discount code expired 3 days ago. Bummer! However, I’m definitely stocking up on these babies when they go on sale again. I think that bass players would especially love the sound and affordability of these ears that are built with true pro-audio quality and durability. I think Shure has a huge home run here. Makes me wonder what this dynamic driver would sound like paired with their SE535’s armature drivers. Shure are you listening? Maybe offer a dynamic/armature hybrid? ;-)

Dependable as the name Shure
By DigitalLefty from Mid Coast Maine on July 11, 2011

Just what I have come to expect from Shure earphone. Good fit, outstanding sound quality for the money and durable. I work on a navy ship in a construction zone for a good part of the day and these earphones noise reduction is good enough so I can do my job and still hear what I need to while working.
Pros:
Dependability, Values and quality.Cons:

Horrible fit does not make up for good sound
By David from Portland, OR on July 6, 2011

As a Westone earphone user, I was horribly disappointed in the Shure SE215 earphones. My UM1s were several years old (out of warranty) and I needed some new headphones and was looking to upgrade and get iPhone compatibility as well. I spoke to a customer service person at Earphone Solutions explaining what I was looking for and she strongly recommended the Shure SE215s as they were "just as comfortable" as the Westone UM1s I was replacing.
What a HUGE mistake on my part!!! First of all, the unit itself is NOT smaller than the UM1 and does not fit nearly as flush in my ear. The second issue is the cable that runs from the earpiece over the top of the ear is like a "flexi-cable". For people who have the Westone's, you know that their braided cable is extremely flexible and thin and is virtually weightless over the ears. By contrast, the Shure cables are bulky, heavy and do not have anywhere near the flexibility to comfortably conform to the backside of the ear.
I ordered my SE215 with the iPhone cable and there are problems with that as well. The SE215 has the removeable cables. The stock cable for audio-only use has a straight connector where it attaches to the earpiece. The iPhone cable comes with an "L" shaped connector that has to be oriented in the right direction to properly route the cable over the top of the ear making inserting the earpiece a much more difficult process. To top it all off the audio quality of the iPhone cable is much poorer than the audio-only cable.
If you want great-sounding audio earphones that are also super-comfortable to wear for long periods of time, stay away from these and go with the Westones (UM1, W1 or W2).
Pros:
Sound quality with the audio cables was goodCons:
Audio cables are very bulky and heavy
In-ear piece is large and does not fit flush in the ear (at least for me)
Audio cable is too stiff to comfortably route over the top of the ear
iPhone cable (separate item) has very poor music qualities and has a very poor connector design making putting on the headphones a hasslefantastic earphones

Perfect sound but a bit hard to put in
By Con from Anchorage, Alaska on June 16, 2011

Love the sound; love the way the 'phones stay in the ear when exercising hard: that was the reason I wanted new 'phones in the first place. I do find them a bit hard to put in, especially when already treadmilling, hence a 4 star instead of 5 star, but once in, they're awesome.
Pros:
Snug fit
Stay in ear when exercising
Great sound with deep bassCons:
Hard t put in, especially on the flyI would recommend this item to a friend.
Merchant Response:
The longer you have them, the easier you will find to put them on :)
Thanks for the review!Very satisfied - so far
By Prakash from UK on June 7, 2011

Have been playing with my new Shure SE215s for a couple of days now.
A word on Earphone Solutions:
I received the usual high quality service from Earphone Solutions. My only gripe is that I had a number of questions that I sent via e-mail and it took multiple e-mails for me to get them all answered. Apart from that very friendly, prompt delivery and good product.
The earphones:
I still have my old pair of Shure E3c and a pair of Klipsch which were also bought from earphone solutions. The SE215 are better than both. Build quality is very sturdy, the wire is braided and covered with a smooth outer coating, so altogether much better than the old E3c (and those were good in their time). They also have an extra mouldable sheath near the ear so the wear around the ear (highest) is minimised. I also love the fact they sit flat to the ear. The seal and noise reduction is even better than before. I use the olive tips to get the best fit. I have yet to try them on a flight so hopefully they'll be fine on there too. I imagine they will be as I couldn't sleep with the E3cs, as they stuck out of the ear. The Klipsch are very clear and have decent enough bass but the SE215s are all those things and warmer. More fun.
I would highly recommend them and earphone solutions. In fact I already have – a friend of mine at the gym needed a new pair when he wondered why his stock pair of apple earphones kept falling out and he wasn’t enjoying his music. I told him these would redefine his idea of personal audio!
Pros:
sturdy wire, casing, detachable wires, mechanism allows the wires to rotate without getting twisted or putting stress on earphone joint. Cons:
Earbuds were impossible to take off initially. Had to put them in a freezer bag and in the freezer for 5 minutes (as per advice from earphone solutions). Still difficult but managed to get them off now! I would recommend this item to a friend.
Merchant Response:
Dear Prakash,

Ear-Charmer
By Stefan from Troy, MI on May 19, 2011

The Shure SE215 performs beyond my expectations! My main criteria are: (1) Sound with deep reaching bass for Electronica (2) Great fit so I can wear these during long intercontinental flights (3) Good isolation since I like to keep the volume rather low. The SE215 fulfill all these requirements. The sound is more than enjoyable. In fact I wander if a dynamic IEM can get any better. I can wear the headphones for 6 hours straight without feeling any discomfort.
Pros:
- Great sound, deep bass,
- Excellent fit, can't get better
- Superb noise isolation
- Cable replacableCons:
- Cable too stiffI would recommend this item to a friend.
Disapointed
By John from Boston, Ma on May 9, 2011

So I must say, that these are great in-earphones. The sound is good and they are very comfortable, but they are so good at isolating noise, they pick up from the slightest vibration or touch on the cord. The cord's plastic is to hard and it really ruins the earphones.
The sound is great if I stay perfectly still and don't move my head, but if I turn my head even the slightest, I can hear the cord rub and I can hear it though music that is playing decently loud.
Pros:
Sound
Quality of the Ear piece
ComfortCons:
Vibration sensitivity

Clear, Punchy Lows
By jmac from Nashville, TN on April 9, 2011

Very surprised with the clarity of these monitors, especially in the low frequencies. I have used Shure iems for over a decade, and the price-performance ratio is dead on. For a $100 price point, the SE215 iems are a steal!
Pros:
Comfortable, extended low frequency, affordable I would recommend this item to a friend.
Great Earbuds
By Kenny from California on April 7, 2011

I bought the Westone UM1 a little less than two years ago and the right earbud stopped working recently. For this reason I was a little hesitant to purchase another pair. It is no fun running and listening to one earbud so I ended up purchasing the Shure SE215. In my opinion these earbuds not only sound better than the UM1 but the build quality seems better . The formable cables and cinch mechanism do a great job of keeping the earbuds in place when running. I am very happy with these earbuds.
Pros:
Sound Quality
Beefy CablesI would recommend this item to a friend.
SHURE SE215 CLEAR
By Asad Hamid from Vancouver, Canada on April 7, 2011

I have had a horrible experience with the Shure SE215 Clear earphones. I received them brand new and the right channel was dead. I returned these to Earphone Solutions who then shipped me another brand new pair of SE215. The second set was also defective, same problem, the right channel was dead. I then got a third pair and this was only because of the great service and support I have always received form Flavio at Earphone Solutions. The third pair are black and they work fine. But in all the SE215's I got, it is virtually impossible to remove the ear tips. Its as though they are sealed. I am definitely not a Shure fan any longer.
Pros:
Great sound for the size of these phone (if they work).Cons:
Totally unreliable and the detachable cable is a faulty design from my experience.Merchant Response:
Dear Asad,
Thanks for your feedback. I can only say this was a terrible coincidence and we apologize for the horrible hassle.
The 2 units that were sent to you are being overnighted to Shure's engineer to check and see what went wrong.
The return rate on this product continues to be extremely low which tells us this was an isolated incident.
The eartips are known for being really tough to be pulled out the first time around. A little trick taught to us by Shure was to put the earphones inside a ziplock and then inside the freezer for only 2-3 minutes. The eartips should then be much easier to be removed.
Note that this is one time only since this only happens with the eartips that ship installed in the earpiece. After that it should be just fine.
Thanks again! Hope you are enjoying your new SE215 that we replaced at no charge last time.Remarkable

This is a great headphone to pick up vocal, and higher tones...however, it does not work too well with bass
Pros:

clarity in vocals and higher tonesCons:
lack in bass supportI would recommend this item to a friend.
Merchant Response:
Hi Seth,
Usually out of the box it's really hard to get a good seal and without a good seal the bass is lost. This is very common until you get the "right" eartips for your ear canals, which vary from person to person.
Make sure you have a good seal because these earphones have a ton of bass!
Thanks for the feedback.Excellent sound.
