Update March 7, 2011

I am so excited with this new earphone. It's my favorite backup earphones already. The low price makes me feel good about putting them through any situation. I don't worry about the case, losing it, etc. And this morning I took them again to the gym and I can't fault the product.

I spoke with Shure last week and I truly think they messed up on the price. Based on everything we sell these should be easily placed at $149.

At $99 all the better for our customers but this sku will KILL a lot of other models going all the way up to $150 and it WILL become our overall best seller very, very soon. It's just too much performance, comfort, fit, build quality, cable design, sound quality, etc, for the money.

I know Shure is not after the consumer market with these but they will get an avalanche of orders. These were built to be bundled on their entry level professional wireless monitor systems. But we sold out our first shipment already and some customer reviews are already popping on our site pending publishing and they seem to agree with my enthusiasm :)

I will try to get a hold of Shure's product developer to ask about the driver but these sound nothing like the SE115. It could be because I'm just too excited with the fit and price

The other thing is that the overall "what you get for the money" is so much larger than most other earphones that these SE215 will even mess up models priced in the $40-$80 range. Depending on distribution, these should affect 2 or 3 mainstream brand names in the industry. They just need stock!!

    great product, great value
By James from Houston, TX on May 16, 2011
Bought these to replace my Shure E2C's that were beyond using. After several years my E2C's had a short in the wire where the sound in the left earphone frequently cut out, and the wire casing on the right ear was broken. I considered Ultimate Ears and Westone earphones in the same price range, but opted for these because of my familiarity with Shure. I have had these for about a month and could not be happier. To me, these sound great. I listen to a variety of music and talk, but am not overly concerned with getting heavy bass.

These have a good sound balance and do not sound too flat or tinny like some cheaper earphones. My main objective is for noise blocking for use in the gym and working in the yard, and these do an outstanding job of that. Other aspects I like are that Shure replaced the wax guards they had on the E2C's with the inclusion of a cleaning tool, and they have reinforced the cord where it wraps around the ear (right where my E2C's cracked). Also, if the cord does crack or short again, I can replace just that part and not have to replace the entire set.

I would like to see an option for a shorter replacement cord as the length of this on give me quite a bit of excess. I also noticed that there is only one type of sleeves for fitting, compared to the two or three different styles the E2C's came with, although the ones that are included are the style I found to have the best sound isolation and comfort so this is not a big issue to me.

Finally, the ordering experience from earphonesolutions.com was very easy and I received my order in about three days just as expected.

Overall, I am extremely happy with these and though I can't believe I dealt with the issues of my earphones so long before finally getting a new pair, I'm equally glad I waited long enough for Shure to release this model. I would absolutely recommend these to anyone who would listen.
    Pros:
    -good, balanced sound quality
    -excellent noise reduction
    -reinforced cord near ear
    -replaceable cord
    -cleaning tool (no wax guards)
    -price
    Cons:
-would like the option for a shorter cord
-fewer options for ear insert sleeves

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Fantastic sound and amazing isolation
By Evan from L.A. on May 11, 2011
I am truly impressed with these headphones, especially at this price point. These tower above most competitors in their price range, delivering balanced, nuanced sound along with very good noise isolation and a host of features that are hard to find in any other headphones, such as the detachable cord which allows you to listen to one 'phone at a time or to completely replace a damaged cord without buying an entirely new set. Brilliant!

I was looking for something very specific when I purchased these-- headphones I could wear while sleeping, to block out occasional noise from my neighbors (I live in a fairly crowded urban section of Los Angeles). The Shures ended up being perfect, in that their noise isolation blocks out the offending noise entirely, and their low profile/well-tailored fit in the ear canal makes them comfortable to sleep in compared to other ear buds I've used. Not only that, I can remove the left speaker by disconnecting it from the cable, and still listen to the right speaker while sleeping on my side. This provides the ultimate mix of comfort and sound-blocking.

In regular use (while walking, commuting, etc.) the Shures deliver crisp, detailed audio as well. I couldn't be happier with these, overall.
    Pros:
Sound isolation is top notch, without artifacts or power issues associated with "noise canceling" sets

Price is very reasonable given the quality

Smart design-- detachable cord, multiple plug sizes, shapes and materials, can be worn over the back of the ear OR in front, etc.
    Cons:
Nothing, really. I suppose the color/design/style is a little utilitarian, looking more like something a musician would wear in a concert than a consumer headphone, but it's no big deal.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Best for the price, by far
By Brandon from Seattle, WA on October 18, 2011
I've owned a fair number of earphones over the years from the early $99 and $199 Shures to Westone UM2s and recently a pair of Shure SE-110s. Nothing in the $100 range comes close to these for sound quality. At this point, at the intersection of comfort and sound quality, these even beat my UM2s.

The only downside to these vs. the SE-110s is that I really liked the short cord on those. Since these have replaceable cords, I'd love to see a shorter cord available. I usually use these with a device attached to my arm or shirt, so the massively long cord is just dangling coiled up in the way.
    Pros:
    Sound
    Comfort
    Look
    Price
    Cons:
    Cord length

    Good sound but design flaw
By Michael from Houston, Texas on October 11, 2011
This was my first set of premium earphones. Prior to this, I used inexpensive $20 pairs. The sound from these Shure SE215's are clearer and more full than the other pairs that I've used. I prefer the feel of the silicone tips, but the black foam olive tips gave much better sealing and sound isolation. When these earphones work, they work great. I've had these earphones since May. I purchased from Earphone Solutions and delivery was on time.

The earphones utilize a swivel connector. This seems to be a problem for these earphones. I did some forum research prior to purchase and found that these earphones could develop an intermittent connection issue. I thought that being careful with them would prevent this from happening. It has not.

I use these earphones about two hours a day on the bus, one hour each way. I'm not running around doing physical activity and not jostling the connectors, I'm laying there on the headrest with my head back. I'm always careful to pull out the earphones itself and not the cord because I wanted to avoid this problem.

I started having intermittent issues in the left bud a couple months ago. I used to be able to just change the angle of the connector and it would start working again. Now the left bud connector needs constant adjustment and provides crackling and/or lower volume due to this poor connector design.

Overall I am disappointed with these earphones. My wife has ultimate ears triplefi's and they use a two pin connector design. Had Shure used this same connector the se215's would be perfect for me.

I bought these based partially on the praise a friend of mine has for his 10 year old Shures with a permanent wire. He now needs those replaced and I could not recommend him to get another set of Shures since they all seem to utilize the same swivel connector design now.
    Pros:
    Clear and full sound.
    Nice low profile fit.
Several selections of bud material and sizes to choose for best fit.
Nice carrying case to wrap up cord when not in use.
    Cons:
    Unreliable swiveling connector design.

    Merchant Response:
    Michael,

Thanks for your review and sorry for this inconvenience. Please give us a call or email and we will replace your SE215 at no charge.

    Thank you.

    Great Sound!!!
By Tom from Irwin, PA on September 24, 2011
These headphones have the best sound quality of any headphones I have ever used. They also stay in my ear extremely well. However, they do take longer than other headphones to put in my ears because they go behind my ear. It is also very difficult to change the ear pieces because they have some very strong adhesive on the ear buds. Overall though, they are extremely good headphones for sound quality.
    Pros:
    Sound Quality
    Durability
    Stay in ear
    Interchangeable chords
    Cons:
    Not so great bass
    Hard to put in
    Hard to change ear buds

    Replaceable cables.
By Cedric from Oakland on September 21, 2011
The sound is comparable to the older E3 that I had but not quite as good as the E4. The bad part about the older series is that both of mine are broken at the cable. The new series solves that problem. If the SE315 was the same price as the older E3, I would have bought it instead of the SE215. You get a cleaner sound with two drivers. As it is, you can't beat the sound and the repairability for the price.
    Pros:
Replaceable cables, and good sound at the sale price.
    Cons:
Not quite as clean sounding as the E4 and doesn’t quite mask out outside noise as well as the E3. Maybe the noise cancellation will be better after trying a few of the ear pieces.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Great Sound Isolation + Good Sound
By James from Dothan, Alabama on September 14, 2011
Even though these have a a balanced armature driver, I couldn't really tell an appreciable difference in sound quality between these and the $30 Panasonic buds I was using before. However, the sound isolation on the SE215s is excellent. It's literally like wearing foam ear plugs. I do computer work in a machine shop with a large compressor and pumps running all day, and these earphones make those things almost unnoticeable. The sound isolation also improves how well I can hear the nuances of music. I can turn the volume on my music player almost to zero and still hear all the sound from the song I'm listening to.
    Pros:
    Great Sound Isolation
    Comfortable
    Good Sound quality
    Good Build Quality
    Cons:
Cumbersome if you remove and replace the earphones frequently.

    Horrible fit, great sound.
By Noah from NYC, NY on September 13, 2011
Whoever designed how these headphones fit your ear was completely incompetent. The cables exit the earphones at an angle the top, which kind of makes sense since the cable is supposed to wrap behind your ear. However, the angle required to pull them behind the ear is extremely sharp, which explains why the cables need to be reinforced with beefier cable insulation near the in-ear units (it's stiffer, but not terribly moldable - also, this sharp angle explains why the heavier insulation is required at all). But the stiff part of the cable is too short to actually wrap around the top of your ear, which means that it's too stiff over too short a distance. Instead of wrapping over your ears, they stick up an over the earlobe like some crescent-shaped antenna. Combined with the replaceable cable, the cable is always falling off (flopping over) the ear, meaning that the headphones are only useful if you never move your head.

Sound is pretty great - warm, nice bass, highs come through very nicely; a really nice balance. Too bad they're impossible to wear in order to enjoy that sound. I'll give them a try for a day or two, but if this doesn't get better then I will sadly have to send them back (because the sound is really really good - better than the Westone 2s that I had that disappeared to my everlasting chagrin).
    Pros:
Great sound - hearing details I've never enjoyed before.
    Cons:
    Fit is TERRIBLE
-Not made to fit a human's head
-Poorly designed cable angle ensures excessive cable wear

    Helmet Friendly
By Keith from O' Fallon, MO. on August 25, 2011
I recently purchased these to replace my old Shure earphones. The old pair still sounded great, but was not flush with my ears. Since I mostly wear them under a motorcycle helmet, my ears would get sore after long rides. I purchased the new pair shortly before a 3,000 mile motorcycle trip, and so far am very pleased. They sound great and are very comfortable. There is a bit of a learning curve in order to make them fit correctly, but when installed correctly they do a great job of cancelling out most of the wind noise. I would highly suggest these for motorcycle helmet applications.
    Pros:
    Great sound and comfort.
Ear bud assortment provided assures proper fit.
    Cons:
Sometimes a bit of a challenge getting a good seal.
Cord is too long for most applications

I would recommend this item to a friend.

An upgrade from my old earphones
By Tze Tuo from Syracuse, NY on July 30, 2011
I got these as a replacement for my UE 170vi when the cable was damaged in storage. First impressions for these were that these are some solid earphones. They definitely feel and look much more durable than the UEs I had. Removing the foam tips was difficult but once that was removed, changing it to another tip was no problem. The tips and earphones are fitted tightly and I will not have to worry about losing them like I did with the UE ones. This is definitely a plus.

These earphones does take some getting use to since the wire goes over the ear, but the wire gives no trouble even though I use them with glasses. The wire is long enough that I don't have to worry about plugging it into my phone and having it in my pockets, it may be too long for some people, but I enjoy having more to work with. It is great to be able to move within close proximity of my laptop without having to take them off like other earphones.

These earphones are not going to be something you want if you plan to be taking them out often. They fit nicely in the ear and can be removed without much problems, however, putting them back on does take some time. I have been using these for about 2 weeks and it still takes me some time to put them back on. These earphones are comfortable for the most part, however it does seem to shift at time if you move. I've had to adjust them after wearing them for a longer period of time because they shift and becomes uncomfortable. This is a quick adjustment but should be noted.

The sound of these earphones are nice but are different from another pair of Shure SRH440 I own. I am a little disappointed that they don't compare to the SRH440, however they are entirely different type of phones so I understand there would be a difference. I do expect these earphones to last me some time, much longer than the UE's I had. The case is a great way to store and travel with these. The tool and variety of tips that brings should accommodate most people for different material preferences as well as size differences.

These earphones are a good fit for people who enjoys music but does not have the extra money to buy the more expensive earphones. They seem to be durable and should last for a long time. Any cable problems could be resolved by replacing it which is definitely a good thing, I do hope those replacement cable prices drop though. I would recommend these to anyone that is looking for a new pair of earphones with this budget.
    Pros:
    cable length
    durable
    price
    noise isolation
    Cons:
    expensive cable replacement
may need to re-adjust after period of listening

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Great sound but awful quality control
By James from Ontario, Canada on July 28, 2011
I ordered this item back in may so I've had quite some time with this earphone and I must say that the sound is fantastic. The bass is slightly lighter than my monster turbines but it more than makes up with it with the fantastic mid range and top notch isolation. Although the mids are not quite as smooth as the regular "Shure" sound they're still my favorite aspect of these phones.

However, in my three months with these earphones I've already had to return them two times due to one of the drivers ceasing to work. According to some of the responses here it's isolated to a batch in the May shipment but my second pair was manufactured in June and had the exact same problem as my first. The first replacement earphone was returned within a week but apparently it will take over a month to replace the second pair which is simply unacceptable. If you are considering to purchase these I would warn you to think about your willingness to risk a faulty pair.
    Pros:
    Deep lows with great impact/body
    Smooth mids
    Cons:
    Awful Awful quality control
Memory cables are hard to get used too
    Highs are slightly lacking

Overall for $99.99 this is a great earbuds.
    Pros:
Love the Mid of this earphones.
    Lots of bass too..
    Cons:
At first it is hard to fit.. But will get use to it..

    Husband loves them
By Nankat from Maine on July 6, 2011
I purchased these for my husband for Father's Day. He uses them for his iPad. He travels for work and feels they are very comfortable, provide good noise reduction and excellent sound quality. He also likes the case that they come in which makes it easy to store the headphones and cords for traveling.
    Pros:
    Different earbud sizes
    Storage case

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Very good for the price
By Tony from Valencia, CA on July 5, 2011
Shure SE215 has great Mid Vocals good Bass and acceptable Highs
I tried some UE700 first, they are very clean on Mids and Highs but are very week on Bass.
Then I tried Klipsch -S4s these are all Bass very bad on Mids, Vocals and Highs.
Next I tried Bose IE2 these have a great overall balanced sound but are not Sound Isolating so if you use them anywhere that isn't noise free you will not be happy.
I am keeping the Shure SE215s because of well balanced sound, price, comfortable fit, Replaceable cables.
The sound of the SE215 get much better with some burn time.
At $99 bucks they are going to be hard to beat!!

    Pros:
Solid clarity and bass without over-boosting. Replaceable cable. Includes six different sizes of ear tips.
    Cons:
It takes a little time to get used to the thick cable going over the top of your ears but you do. Because of this they don't go on and off real fast but it's worth it.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Great when they work but...
By Brian from Springfield, Illinois on June 30, 2011
I purchased these headphones from Earphone Solutions and for the first 35 days they worked great. I was highly impressed with the sound isolation. I could listen to my music low in the coffee shop and work on homework and not be distracted by outside noise. The bass is great on these small earphones and the fit is nice and snug.

BUT after the 35 days I noticed that the left ear kept going in and out. I contacted Shure and they said send them in and they send me a pair back immediately. Within three days the same thing happened on these new earphones. I sent them back a second time and they sent me back a brand new pair again. Well within two days they are already not playing again. I called Shure and they said that this has been a fairly common problem with the black earphones. They are sending me a clear cable via next day air.

When the earphones work they are great but I have had an awful experience with them.

I will like to say that Shure's customer service has been top notch and very quick. Just the earphones themselves have been awful.
    Pros:
    Sound
    Bass
    Noise Isolation
    Cons:
    Reliability

    Merchant Response:
    Hi Brian,

    Thanks for your feedback.

Please accept our apologies for the terrible experience.

Rest assured that this problem was addressed by Shure. It only happened with some units that were shipped in May of 2011. Since then it has now been corrected.

    Thank you.

    Terrible

Keeps slipping out of my ear canal -- won't stay in
    Pros:
    Good authentic sound
    Cons:
won't remain in my ear canal -- very disappointed

    Merchant Response:
    Neil,

Based on your feedback I strongly believe you have them upside down. I own a pair of SE215 and I take them to the gym and they stay put like no other pair of earphones I own.

Please make sure you follow the instructions on the booklet included.

The cables are supposed to go up (not down like most earbuds) and then routed behind the back of your ear towards the back of your head.

We have customers that ride their motorcycles with the SE215 and no helmet :) (check the law in your state / country).

    Thank you.

    The deal of the decade!

Great quality, superb sound. My last pair was a SC2.
By Kevin from Lafayette,LA on June 14, 2011
I will explain why I didn't give a full five stars, because quality-wise these are top notch. The construction is far more solid than my last pair of Shures. However, here is the rub. I have yet to find an earfoam that doesn't hurt my ears after a couple of hours. I didn't have this problem with the SC2s. If you include the silicone and foam included plus the Comply's that I ordered, then I had 5 different buds to try on. They all hurt my ear. Its not extreme, but its almost like the angle isn't right on the arm for the Shure making them all direct at an angle in my canal.
    Pros:
    Terrific balanced sound.
    High quality construction.
    Replaceable wires
    Cons:
Discomfort after about 2 hours of wearing them.
Its hard to get reinforcement over the ear shaped properly.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Merchant Response:
I to got a bit of discomfort the first couple of times I used them but no more. Now I can wear them for 2-3 hours straight with no discomfort. Perhaps that will change for you as well.

    Thanks for the review!

    Great sound
By Too stupid from Dallas on June 13, 2011
My experience has been great sound smooth highs and lows with bass. The bass is not overpowering but smooth and warm. However, the left driver stopped working after two weeks. I received a replacement but had to pay to ship them back. The replacements arrived but I also have a problem with them as the wire was pinched and it seems like they are beginning to short out.
    Pros:
Great sound. Warm bass, smooth highs and mids. Warranty honored with no fuss.
    Cons:
Takes getting use to design and ear placement. I have had to replace twice.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Merchant Response:
We apologize for the inconvenience. I believe that could have been a "bad batch" and I am sure it is now all taken care of. Mine are already 6 months old and no issues. We had about half dozen customers with that same issue all from the same shipping week so the problem was isolated to a small batch of products.

If you need any help please contact me directly and we will expedite anything that we need to for you.

    Very pleased with SE215s
By biscuit from United Kingdom on June 13, 2011
I had the previous version of these headphones (SE210s) and so these were an upgrade. Think the sound quality is significantly better with these and more comfortable in the ear. However, I preferred the cable on the old version which was a short cable from the phones connected to a longer cable. This meant it was very easy to untwist. These ones get twisted more easily and are more difficult to disentangle.
    Pros:
    Good sound
Strong bass if you fit them properly
    Reasonable price for quality
    Comfortable fit
    Like the see-through phones
    Case provided is very handy
    Cons:
    Cord gets twisted easily.

pretty lousy service IMO - i bought the earphone because i wanted it, i gave them the money in exchange for the product - i dont want my money i want the SE215s

sound was excellent for the 1 day that they worked btw, excellent isolation as well
    Pros:
    sound quality
    isolation
    style
    Cons:
it broke and i cant get a new pair =(

    Merchant Response:
The reason we did not replace them was because we were out of stock. We offered the CLEAR as we could not replace for the Black if we didn't have them at that time.

The problem you described was identified on a very small batch of products shipped on the second week of May 2011 and that has been corrected by the manufacturer. Not all products shipped on that week presented the problem but unfortunately you got 2 of them.

After the small issue was corrected and as soon as stock was replenished we started shipping them again.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and apologize for this terrible coincidence.

    Thank you for your feedback.

    Very versatile, and sound great
By Jeff from Los Angeles on June 7, 2011
The cheap earbuds that came with my iPhone were starting to disintegrate, and after looking around for a bit, I bought a pair of SE215s. My criteria - I needed something that could fit under my motorcycle helmet, something that would work with my iPhone, and something that could double as an inexpensive In Ear Monitor (I'm a professional musician).
After taking the time to make sure they fit properly, I love the way these fit and sound. They're night and day compared to the cheap throwaways that Apple includes with the phone. I've also noticed that the volume on my phone can be cut by 50% when I'm using these versus the stock ear buds.
I think these earphones are great, and with this price, it's not a tough decision.
    Pros:
    Quality is great
    Value is great
    They fit my ears well

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Very good, but less resistant!

I live in Brazil, bought the Shure 215 which by the way has a sound and elegant! It arrived on time just right here in Brazil and I was pretty happy about it! But alas when I use in my first show, he stopped working one side of the phone! I was very sad and angry at the time, because besides being new, it was good, it's showtime! And by the looks in the comments, I am not the first to say it failed quickly! And I would not spend money on FedEx to send it over the phone for them to give me back a new one, because it would not compensate, I pay a new tax, the phone would be very costly in the end!

    CONCLUSION!

The phone is good, comfortable, but fragile! I hope I bought the shure 425 now, does not get the same thing happen, because it will be very sad!
Earphonesolution, a site very reliable, courteous customer ...

Hopefully it will be much better the SHURE425!
    Pros:
    Phone comfy!
    Good sound, bass almost perfect!
It fits perfectly in the ear very well and insulates the external!
    He arrived on time perfectly!
    Cons:
Stopped working one side at the first show!

    EXCELLENT headphones for music!!!
By Jay Meachum from Winston-Salem, NC on June 4, 2011
I love my new Shure SE215's. These are truly great for audiophiles, like myself!
    Pros:
The width of the soundstage is HUGE. It's like you are listening live.
    Cons:
I tried these on my in-ear monitor system and when the stage volume heats up and I need more volume, they start to distort at higher volumes. I was disappointed at this.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Merchant Response:
    Dear Jay,

To avoid distortion please make sure your iPod EQ is set to OFF. These higher-end earphones are more sensitive to EQ presets and we recommend to have the EQ turned off otherwise they will cause distortion.

    Thank you!

Decent sound quality, poor quality control
By Albert from New York, NY on June 3, 2011
I purchased these headset in March of 2011. To give some background, I have the SE535, Westone 4 and purchased this set to use as the gym headphone.

The SE215 has decent sound quality, and are more bassy compared to the Westone 4 (yes, it's not a fair comparison). Comparing it to my normal gym headset of Sennheiser CX-300II, the sound seems more accurate and I liked the behind ear design (to keep the cable a bit more out of the way and less dangling as it sits on the top f the ears.

While this is headphone definitely does not have better range than the SE535 and Westone 4 (again, different class of headphones), they do offer a meaningful upgrade relative to other headphones at this price point.

However, after about 1 month of usage, one of the ear started to cut out randomly (it doesn't happen constantly, and rejiggering the cable does fix it). The occurrence is about 1-2x per day during the usage. While this is still usable, it did bother me meaningfully as I have had no issues with the SE535 headphones with regards to sounds cutting in/out.

I proceeded to contact Shure department, and was disappointed that they simply said I can mail back the headphone at my own expense and Shure will then determine whether the headphone was indeed defective and will then either fix/repair/replace the headphone. I asked whether a cross-shipment option was available (where I would give them CC# to ensure return of defective headset), and the response was no.

After being frustrated with the connection and the lack of interest in getting me a fixed headphone asap, I decided to return these headphones (thanks to Amex for their return protection).

All in all, I would not recommend these headphone as I think the build quality is definitely not consistent and the lackluster customer service response of getting a fixed headphone to me asap even after I mentioned that I had been a loyal customer (having purchased the SE535 and then the SE215).
    Pros:
Better sound quality compared to the headphones in this price category (when sounds do not cut out)
    Cons:
    Inconsistent/poor quality control
    Cable too long

    Merchant Response:
    Dear Albert,

The issue mentioned occurred with some units that were shipped in May of 2011 but since your unit was purchased in March I can guarantee you that was an isolated problem as we had close to zero problems with the SE215 during that time. The problem really came up during the shipments made in May. Shure has since addressed and corrected the issue.

As for Shure asking you a credit card number, that's pretty much industry standard where the replacement would be sent to you before you had returned the defective item. On a regular exchange no card is needed because the replacement unit goes out after receiving the defective unit. But since out wanted the unit sent out right away the company must secure payment for the second unit being shipped. And then process a full refund to your card for once the returned unit arrives.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your repeat business,

These 'earbuds' have excellent sound and ambient noise suppression. They fit well into the ear canal with a choice of size and style of sleeve. Despite the snug fit they do not stay in place if there is any head movement so joggers wear a sweat band. The semi-rigid two or so inches of wire that is supposed to loop over the ear is not terribly effective and the buds easily dislodge. BUT they are a great improvement on the standard earphones that come with the iPod - an improvement that you have to pay for nonetheless.
Changing sleeves is troublesome and it is very easy to not adequately connect the leads to the ear plug units giving monaural sound.
The price is right but bringing them into Canada costs an extra $20 ($10 customs duty and $10 FedEX brokerage fee) on top of having to choose the expensive shipping fees.
    Pros:
Great sound. Great ambient noise suppression. =/- $100 Canadian or US seems a good deal to me.
    Cons:
Brokerage fee not such a good deal. Connection of wires to plugs tricky. Changing sleeves trickier. Fit over ear not good at all.

    Bummed out
By NatELite from Brooklyn, NY on June 2, 2011
Enjoyed these headphones for a little less then 2 months. Now the right earbud has completely died. It's the actual earbud not the cable (switching L to R worked). Now I have to deal with shipping back to Shure to get a repair/replacement. At least they come with a 2 year warranty. I'd been recommending these to friends but depending on how this works out I might have to warn them.
    Pros:
    Fit
    Sleeve Choices
    Sound
    Price
    Cons:
    Ear buds are too fragile
    Cord is too long
Cable around ear is stubborn & awkward at first

    SE215 Earphones
By Jobu from Moundridge, Kansas on May 29, 2011
Replaced older model Shure earphones. Close fitting foam ear buds allow a lower volume setting while listening to music.
    Pros:
    Large diameter wire leads.
    Cons:
    No dislikes to date.

By Tom from Pensacola, FL on May 24, 2011
Shure got this one right with decent sound; great cables; and compact size. We're using these with our worship team vocalists.
    Pros:
cables; build quality; compatibility with standard sleeves sizes.
    Cons:
It doesn't sound as good as a $300.00 set.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Great Sound
By Jeff from Boca Raton, Fl on May 24, 2011
Of all the earphones I have, the Shure has the best sound stage. The overall quality of the sound is great.
The only thing I do not like is the cable. It is not flexible enough near the ear where you wrap it over your ear.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Awesome for their price
By Gerard from New Zealand on May 24, 2011
I had the predecessor of this model, the SE210 and absolutely hated the sound, absolutely no guts to them no matter what I tried.
I'm glad they've used a dynamic driver on this model as they are completely different sounding, Shure has awesome sound isolation and won't fall out of your ears if you've spent the time to get them to fit your ears properly.
They have a broader appeal imho outside the audiophile critics, it's not super in any particular area of SQ, probably lacking the high end frequencies mostly, but is overall a really nice sound for the price.
I replaced a set of broken UE superfi5-EB's with these, and while they can't match a dual driver model like that for deep lows and high frequency, they are small, unobtrusive and still pretty good.
I ordered these from earphone solutions and their service and speed was exemplary, thanks
    Pros:
    Shure sound isolation
    Great sound for small budget
    Great cable design
Very very unobtrusive because they are soo small and fit within the outside of your ear
    Cons:
Nothing, is there better...yes, but not for $99

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Lemon or fault in design?
By Jeff from Canada on May 23, 2011
I've had these just over 3 weeks now, and they at that point where the ear loops are getting worked in. Previously I had UM1's (unfortunately the driver broke off during a ski session), and I chose these ones since I was intrigued by the detachable feature.

Comfort wise, I still prefer the UM1's over the SE215's. However, sound quality wise I feel they are quite comparable. Regarding the sound isolation, the SE215 might be better due to the firmer buds which might be providing a better seal. Flip side is that I do have some pain in my ear canal after give or take an hour of either listening to music or playing games.

The one concern I have is that the sound in my left ear piece cuts out occasionally while I walk or even when I turn my head at the desk to grab something from my shelf. I never really noticed this since I primarily used these outdoors and usually don't crank the volume to the point where I don't recognized someone trying to get my attention. However at home, this is very obvious. I believe this problem is caused by where the cable can detach as when I rotate them its cuts in and out. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but maybe its a flaw in the design??
In hind sight, I think it might have been better to stick with the UM1's atleast for my personal preferences. That being said these still have good value.

I will be contacting C.service to see if its a simple fix or I have to send em back for a check.
    Pros:
    Sound Quality
    Level of isolation
    Detachable
    Cons:
    Sound cutting out
    Ear bud comfort
    Cable thickness

    Merchant Response:
    Dear Jeff,

Thanks for your review and feedback. Please let us know if you continue to experience this problem and we will take care of it for you.

    Thank you!

Great sound, still breaking them in.
By Leonard Lieu from Melbourne, Australia. on May 23, 2011
After a whole lot of great reviews, I don't think too much has to be said.

Excellent quality sound, and very solid construction. Takes a bit of getting used to putting them on (had to use the old 2 hander for a while).

Foam tips were very comfortable, but found they made the sound quite 'muffled'. Switched to the soft silicon tips included.

Top notch service from Earphone Solutions - 2nd pair of earphones from them, as good as the service I get 4 years ago.
    Pros:
    - Construction
    - Quality of sound
    - Other reviews overrated this product. Excellent buy, no regrets. But don't expect mind blowing sound. They're $100 for a reason and they're excellent considering the price.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Merchant Response:
Thanks for the review and thanks for the repeat business Leonard!

They don't fit in the ear well.
By GARY D RUSTER from SANTA MONICA, CA on May 21, 2011
These are the best earphones i have ever owned. One problem though, they are not easy to put in your ear and to keep keep them there.
    Pros:
    Great sounding earphones.
    Cons:
It is always a problem to get them in your ear and to keep them there. This wire Shure use is a poor solution.

    Merchant Response:
    Dear Gary,

Please make sure you routing the cables behind the back of your ear towards the back of your head. When wearing them that way I find it very difficult to displace them and that's how they were designed.

Let us know if you need any help fitting them that way.

    Thanks!

    2nd Pair, Same Problem
By Eric from Bellingham, WA on May 16, 2011
On my first pair the left driver cut out intermittently due to a bad cable connection. Received second pair today and they have the exact same problem. Aargh!
    Pros:
Good sound. Great earphones if you are able to sit motionless for hours at a time.
    Cons:
    Poor cable connections.

    Merchant Response:
    Dear Eric,

Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience.

We believe this to be terrible coincidence based on the return rate of the SE215 being very low.

We will send a third unit at no charge via FedEx and a return label if you would like or we can exchange for a different model or a full refund.

Thanks again for your feedback and we apologize for the inconvenience.

    Thank you.

Mediocre for a high priced pair of headphones
By Monish Lillaney from Boston, Ma on May 12, 2011
I typically go to walmart and buy headphones that cost $12. They don't sound terrible, but they arent amazing either. For spending $99 on these puppies, I wouldn't say they are worth it. Maybe on Shures spectrum of sound quality, but on the MARKET spectrum of sound quality they are OK. I do like the sound isolation but the headphone sound quality isn't anything to marvel at. I should have known better than to buy headphones with a single driver and expect to be baffled and mystifed. I guess as an engineer I just have really high expectations. I dont hate them, I just dont love them either. And if I dont love them, I woudnt recommmend them.
    Pros:
    Nice fit
    Clear sound at high volumes
Fairly well balanced sound across all frequencies although I've heard better sound in general. I guess they are good for headphones.
    Exterior sound isolation
    Cons:
    Lack of bass
Fit can be uncomfortable at times
Sound isnt loud enough from iphone 3.5mm jack

    Merchant Response:
    Thanks for the review Monish.

Although these have dynamic drivers, getting a good seal is still important with higher end in-ear earphones, so please make sure you try all the different eartips included with the SE215. One of them will fit your ear canal anatomy better than all the others and will deliver the best sound as well.

Let us know if we can help you finding the right eartips for you.

On a side note I use my SE215 with my iPhone 4 and they are so loud that I need to set the volume at no more than 50% so please make sure there are no debris or wax inside the nozzle which is very common and normal with in-ear earphones.

    Thank you!

    Fantastic for the Price
By Justin from Florida on April 27, 2011
This is my first pair of Shure earphones, but I have owned Klipsch S4, Audeo PFE 112, Westone UM2, M-Audio IE 10, and low-midrange Sony earphones. For the money, these are a tremendous value.

The sound is really nicely rounded out-of-the-box, with the expansive bottom end most apparent. After 24 hours of burn-in the top opens up quite a bit, but not in the same (sometimes sibilant) manner as the S4. After burn-in the warmth and bass bias is still evident, but it is balanced by a truly lush midrange and present upper range. For a single dynamic driver, the SE215 is quite an accomplished performer.

Moving up the chain, the UM2 gains accuracy, a certain organic presence and a heaping helping of precision, but the Westones aren't as "fun" as the Shure. In the same range, Audeo makes a fine earphone, but although it is noticeably more precise, the PFE112 tends toward too polite and "studio dry" compared to the Shure. The Klipsch S4 isn't in the same league.

Overall, the best comparison I can make is a less-polite, less-precise UM2, and that's no faint praise for a $100 earphone. Don't get me wrong. the SE215 isn't a sloppy or muddy 'phone, but it retains the general character of a dynamic driver (for good and the bad).

Overall, I agree with Earphone Solutions' opinion: best in the price range, and a great "daily driver" alternative to the Westone UM2.
    Pros:
    Fantastic fit, build quality
    Nicely rounded, robust tone
Bass is present, warm, but not muddy
Flatters good recordings (especially the midrange)
    Great value
    Cons:
The cables are a bit overbuilt, stiff
"Sparkle" lacking compared with higher-range armatures
Not as revealing as others in the same range (PFE112)

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Awesome Earphones: Shure SE215
By Micheal from Albuquerque, NM on April 26, 2011
These earphones are awesome! Everything sounds great with different types of music: Rock, Metal, Alternative, Acoustic, Punk, Jazz, Oldies, Funk, Hip-Hop, House, Techno and est. The comfort is good but, takes a while to place them into my ears and the wires are little thick to wrap around the ears. The price and customer service from Earphone Solutions are awesome!
    Pros:
    Sound
    Comfort
    Price
    Earphone Solutions
    Cons:
    wires too thick

Good value, excellent sound, plenty of bass
By King from DFW, Texas on April 24, 2011
This is the third pair of shure earphone that I owned. The last two were not quite having a good quality because their wires broke after a year of using. The detachable wire this time may solved this problem. This earphone produced a good sound, strong bass and it fit completely into the ear. The wire is little bit thick and hard that is not quite looking good while carring around. Personaly I like the wire about 2 feet long since my MP3 player is around at the arm; The included extension cord is perfect for me and it is still satisfy others.
    Pros:
This earphone has a good value, an excellent sound and plenty of bass.
    Cons:
    Wire is thick and hard

Another great Shure product with great value
By Curtis from Kingston, ON on April 24, 2011
I bought these to replace my E3C's which after 6 years of use, the cable finally died.

The sound quality is similar with the SE215, but the price was better, the comfort is better, and the replaceable cable means they won't meet the same end as my E3C's. Great product!
    Pros:
    - Replaceable cable
    - Comfort
    - Price
    Cons:
    - None

    Great Headphones
By Ricardo from Chicago on April 23, 2011
I bought this headphones some days ago, and it arrived 3 days later. Great Service. The headphones are great. They fit my ears perfectly, are confortable, and seem undestructible due to the very thick cable. The sound is really good for the price. The bass is just right for me, but it lacks a bit of highs, which you can fix with simple EQ. Microphonics is not as great as i thought it would be, but it doesn't get to the point that i'd say that it affects the music. Overall is a great headphone for the price.
    Pros:
    Great for the price
    Build Quality
    Variety of eartips
    Fit
    Confort
    Sound quality
    Cons:
    Lacking highs
    A little bit of microphonics

    Works for me
By J from Raleigh, NC on April 19, 2011
They have stiffer material (extra wires?) in the cord right before the ears. This is presumably so you can bend them into little loops to hook on your ears (see the how to wear them instructions). This makes them stay on very securely during both biking and running. I also wear some H2O audio earphones and I was able to get a lifetime warranty but the cables break once a year and the waterproofing means pressure changes cause issues i.e., they don't work very well on planes or while downhill skiing in Colorado. The Shures work fine in either scenario.
    Pros:
    + Sound fine to me
+ They stay in my ears
+ I like the right angle plug
+ Haven't had a problem with cable noise
+ Will be nice to only have to replace the cables when they break (the cables eventually broke on every pair of headphones I've ever had)
    Cons:
My ears do get a little sore after wearing them for a long time (4+ hours) but I'm hoping that will go away as I get used to them.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

By S.Rod from Chicago, IL. on April 19, 2011
The Shure's sound great. It provides a good Bass, clean Mid and High tones. They are also comfortable for extended use. I have not used them on a plane, but hopefully they will pass the outside sound blocking test. Great buy for under $100.
    Pros:
    Everything
    Cons:
I wish it had volume control

    Big Bang for The Buck
By briano from Melbourne on April 18, 2011
This is my first Shure IEM, and its amazing. For $99, you could not resist to buy it after you listen it. Build quality is superior for the price range, and you get detachable cable, which is great feature, because you can just change the cable if its broke down.

Bass delivered in great amount. Listening to Hotel California (accoustic version, live) by Eagle, the bass is very clear and punchy. The bass detail is quite limited, but not disappointing. The bass is big. The mid is not very bright, some vocal may not be superior, but satisfying enough for me. Treble, however, may not be liked by audiophile person, since its not very bright, even sometimes is quite dark. But my ear is not very good with sibilance treble, so this IEM suits me well.

Soundstage is big, you definitely can feel it. Instrument separation is fantastic for this price. Listen to high quality music, and you can hear the instruments are separated very well.

This IEM is good for all music, except rock and metal, since its not a fast IEM. Trance music can still be handled quite nicely.

    And, isolation is very good.

    Pros:
    Soundstage
    Isolation
    Instrument Separation
    Build quality
    detachable cable
    Cons:
    Long cable

By David from Wisconsin on April 7, 2011
I love these headphones. I have never had a set that fit like these so it has taken me a little getting used to but now I have the knack. For the price these can't be beat. I love them. Only thing is Shure packs them kind of funny so the cord near the end looks like it has a kink in it. Other than that nothing to complain about. I have used them alot this past week and they are really very comfortable.

A clear step up for Shure's product line.
By Stephen Parris from Spring Valley, NY on April 6, 2011
Great head phones for the price. I owned the Shure 110's and the 115's and quality in construction is equal if not greater. If your coming from balanced armature phones like those to these (Dynamic Driver) the jump in bass quality and strength will definitely please you. That's without a sign of distortion. I like the sound stage its way more open than the previous models by that I mean it doesn't sound like the music is "In your head." I wouldn't recommend these for people who like their high pitches super sharp like MEElectronics in the higher frequencies. I've used them for classical music and the open sound stage with a little fiddling with the EQ makes it more than acceptable but if classical is your primary music I don't recommend these.
    Pros:
    Bass Clarity
    Durability
    Replaceable Cord

    Cons:
    No triple flange earpieces included!!

    OK...but I prefer Etymotic ER6i
By Moe from Oxnard on March 31, 2011
These headphones are OK. I was expecting more from Shure since I heard so much good things about their higher models. I thought that there would be some trickle down technology and these would be a good bargain. The earphone cabling is harder to deal with than the Etymotic's. It is a little chore to route the cables around ears. I do feel that they are more comfortable than the Etymotics. Sound isolation favors the ER6i. These are easier to sleep with than other ear buds due to the design. I might go back to the Etymotics. The sound quality is superior to the Shure SE215s.
    Pros:
    Comfortable, looks durable.
    Cons:
Sound quality, cable is a little thick and easy to route around ears. Sounds flat with little sparkle and extension.

    Great Noise Reducing Headphone!
By Brett from San Francisco, CA on March 30, 2011
I primarily use these headphones at work listening to music or listening to recorded lectures on my laptop. When I am at work listening to music, nothing comes through but great sound quality. The headphones are not your normal tinny sound you get out of most low end headphones. Good solid music and good bass if you into that. I'm not. I nothing else comes through.
When I'm at home listening to lectures, the outside sound of my kids diminishes to level that enables me to concentrate. That's is a rare treat. I tried using Sony over the ears headphones and they are terrible.
    Pros:
    Great sound.
    Great noise reduction.
    Solid wires.

    Great earphones for the prices
By Philip from Atlanta, GA on March 27, 2011
I own Westone um2's and I needed another pair of earphones that I could take to the gym and not really worry about getting messed up. These fit the bill perfectly.
They are under $100 and seem to be very durable. They have pretty decent bass compared to most earphones and the only thing I don't like about them is that the hard plastic that goes around the ear takes a while to break in. My westone earphones have better (braided) cabling compared to a thicker less bendable cable for the Shure brand. Great headphones for the price though a better comparison woud be between the Shure SE215 and the Westone 1 as they are in similar price ranges.
    Pros:
    Great value
    Appear to be durable
    Cons:
Cable is thicker and long that most earphones and they also are hard to bend over the ears so they stick up til they are broken in

Great sound, Great price, Great shop
By Jeffrey from The Netherlands on March 21, 2011
The Shure SE215 is my first step into the world of IEM's, having owned the generic ipod earphones and some lower budget creative and senheiser inearheadphones.

    Great sound
allthough I dont have anything to compare the SE215 to in the 100$+ segment I dare to say that they sound great. The genre's that I listen to are quite diverse. rock, electro, indie, live performances, ska. And yet I haven't stumbled onto something where I think by myself Ouch that wasn't worth the 100$.
So overal I like the sound they produce.

    Great price
I myself have always had a fight with earbuds, normal earphones hurt after a while and inears were to flimsy. so when I saw this the model it inmediatly grasped my attention. evenmore after seeing the price, since normally decent IEM's cost more.
The 99$ price tag did it for me.

    Great shop
I have quite some experience with shopping online, ordering things were ever they are the cheapest. and in that quest I've come across a lot of retailers, Most of them in a negative way.
what i liked about earphone solutions is simple:
They have a fast product preparation, the package was shipped within 1 working day.
    Customer friendly.
Good shipping, package arrived 2 days after it was shipped.
    Pros:
    The Sound quality
    The Price

One of the best around $100 !!
By Jonathan from Clifton, NJ on March 19, 2011
Well after owning the Klipsch s4 for a couple of months, I started to crave for something better that could still be used for everyday use. Well I think I found the perfect earphones for this and am glad that I found these. Compared to the s4's, the SE215's build quality beats the s4's by a mile, comfort is next to none and the sound from my view is better than the s4's. I would definitely recommend these to anyone that needs an everyday use earphone or backup for their main rig.
    Pros:
    Build Quality
    Sound
    Comfort
    Price
    Cons:
    None!

    Good Sound, Fragile Buds
By Peter from Cambridge, MA on March 14, 2011
I ordered these for usage during commute and at home. The day I received them, I was impressed with the variety of tips that came with the SE215 as well as the carrying case. Compared to my Sennheiser CX300-II, the sound is fuller and has less distortion, with about equal bass. I enjoyed these for about 6 more hours throughout the day until suddenly, the sound became very one sided and unbalanced. The right ear had died, less than a day after I received them. What is the point of having replaceable cables if the earbuds go out first?

I liked these earphones but I am very disappointed to find a defect so early on, without even getting to burn them in.
    Pros:
    Great sound
    Comfortable
    Good isolation
    Strong, thick wire
    Cons:
    Broke on first day
Wire is a bit on the long side

    Merchant Response:
    Peter,

Thanks for your review and feedback.

We are very sorry for this inconvenience. I truly believe this was an isolated case because the return rate on this product is close to zero. Our samples have been performing flawlessly and others have not reported such problems.

Please remove the cables from the earpieces and reconnect. Since these have removable cables they could have been shipped without being fully inserted.

If the problem persists, please accept our apologies and contact us at 1-321-939-0228 and we will expedite a free replacement for you.

When you buy Shure from us, you are covered by Shure's 2 year warranty in the US, no questions asked.

    Best Earphones I've Ever owned
By William D from Plano, TX on March 11, 2011
Pre-Ordered these on 3/8 and had them on 3/10....hows that for service? As for the actual earphones...they are phenomenal! Right out of the box they were a great fit and the sound was awesome. I plan to use them with a wireless IEM set-up and have no doubt they will perform admirably in that regard. I could not be more pleased with my over all experience dealing with Earphone Solutions....they will be my first choice from this point forward for all my earphone needs!!!!!
    Pros:
    Great Sound
    Great Fit
    Fast delivery

    Great Earphones!
By Graham Bussell from Minnetonka, Minnesota on March 7, 2011
I am very impressed with the Shure SE215s. I have owned nearly all of the Shure earphones at one time or another and these are certainly the value leader. Great fit, great sound, great value. Additionally, I received these in a very timely manner from Earphone Solutions (even when listed as pre-order!). I could not be happy enough.
    Pros:
    Cost
    Sound quality
Fit (very comfortable--includes extensive fit kit)
    Finish (very high quality)
Plenty of bass (compared to armature equivalents)
    Cons:
    Ear-wraps take getting used to
    Cord is a bit long
1/8" ending will not work with original iPhone (without adapter)

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Music Is Not the Same
By Shahar from United States on March 2, 2011
Out of the box, without any tinkering with fit or different ear pieces, these earphones have changed the way that I experience music. Simply put I cannot praise this product enough. The bass is right where I want it to be as an avid fan of hip hop as well as acoustic folk. The overall clarity of sound is astounding compared to the earphones I have owned previously. I actually don't want to take these earphones off, ever. My main problem in the past has been durability, cords breaking down both at the connection to the jack as well as to the ear piece. The replaceable cord on a headset at this price range is HUGE. Also it arrived way quicker than I expected. Super pleased right now, if signing up for the warranty is as easy as I hope the overall experience with the product plus service will be one of the best online retail experiences ever.
    Pros:
Overall sound for the price range
    replaceable
    Cons:
    None so far

    Review of Shure SE215

    Update March 7th, 2011

Just hung up with Shure's product manager for the SE215 and the other new Shure SE series. He told me that these drivers were the best dynamic drivers ever tested by Shure and that they were smaller than the drivers of the SE115. Their objective was to fit the best dynamic driver available in the new form of the SE earphones allowing for the same comfort and fit and at the same time be able to continue to use the same nozzle size so that the PA910 (black olives) could be used with the new SE215. Being able to use the same nozzle size, as I understood on the call, would be dependent on the ability to position the driver at a certain position inside the nozzle. He confirmed to me that they did want to price these extremely aggressive for what they are, confirming my hunch. We will see if the market confirms my feelings towards this product.
