Lets face it, if youre considering spending around 500 bucks on a pair of earphones youre someone whos obsessive about their music. Youre the hard to please type not easily impressed by anything less than seriously impressive. Well, be assured that these tiny miracles of science are indeed impressive, seriously.
The most notable feature of the Shure SE530s is their ability to convey a multi-layered sound stage with absolute precision. Music youve heard over and over again takes on new life with an incredible sense of clarity that is always lucid and rich and never confused or entangled no matter what you throw at them. Where they really shine, though, is with lossless or uncompressed digital recordings or mp3s with a high compression rate. With recordings of this quality, the 530s are adept at producing an extraordinary dynamic range with a sense of magnificence that you didnt know your ears were capable of decoding. For example, the expertly mastered Teardrop by Massive Attack was delivered with insanely crisp and clear highs, a deep, solid bass and with the placement of Liz Frasers spine-chilling vocals with meticulous precision. My much older reference track, Golden Brown by The Stranglers, was delivered with an equally exciting presentation whilst remaining true to the fidelity of the original recording.
Sparknotes.com describes an epiphany as a sudden, powerful, and often spiritual or life changing realization that a character experiences in an otherwise ordinary moment. That's what happened to me when I listened to The Beloved's The Sun Rising on my 530s.
For those new to shove-right-into-the-ear-canal type earphones the 530s may take a few goes at experimenting with the different types and sizes of sleeves supplied in order to achieve the perfect fit necessary for them to perform (no seal = no bass). But once youve found your sweet-spot you might just find yourself ignoring everybody you know for the foreseeable future or taking your dog out for a walk several hours a day more than hes used to.

Customer Review of the Shure SE530-PTH Headphones
"I have been a music performer for over 20 years and when it comes to sound quality I consider myself VERY hard to please and extremely picky. I have been searching for a good pair of in ear earphones for some time now... I own the Shure e4cs, Bose Tri-point IEs, and the Ultimate Ears Super Fi.5 Pros, and these are BY FAR the best earphones I have ever used. The sound quality is incredible.. crisp highs but never harsh, excellent mids but not overpowering, and smooth, rich bass that is never distorted or muddy. Do not however make the mistake of thinking these headphones are bass-shy (like many of the Shures are known for).. Put on a little Tribe Called Quest or Outkast and these things will rock your skull!! Kudos to the guys at EarphonesSolutions.com in constructing such and informative and accessible site and making the purchase process seamless and extremely pleasant. If you are seeking the ultimate experience in in-ear headphone sound quality look no further than the Shure SE530s, and whatever you do I urge you... let the guys at Earphones Solutions take as good care of you as they did me. Cheers!

Great Sound ... Bad Design
By Jim from Illinois on March 8, 2010
The earphones sound as good as the previous reviews that have been made. However, earphones that cost $499 should be designed with some type of frame that will ensure that the buds stay securely in-place in your ears. With any modest movement of my head, one or the other lead or bud starts flopping around. And yes, I have tried the different-sized buds. Even the $50 earphones that I purchased at Brookstone stay in my ear. Also, they have a small "post" on each bud that makes it easier to insert the bud into the ear canal. Again, I like the sound. But the sound is not sufficient if the buds move-around in your ear. If Shure has a solution for this poor design, I would love to have it. Otherwise, I am considering returning them.
wont last as much as it cost
By Hendrik from Indonesia on December 20, 2009
Regardless the sound quality everyone else already mention, I just want to share my experience based on the cable quality. This earphone has the worst cable quality I've seen. As time goes, the cable become stiff, hardened, especially the part from ear to neck. For the price this high, it should be ashame to put this kind of cheap material on the cable shielding. watch out guys..
Cons:
poor choice of cable shield material
Shure SE530-PTH Earphones
By MrMojo from NE on November 20, 2009
Pretty good but very expensive!
The earplug sleeves do NOT provide enough of sound isolation primarily due to the SHORT stem design!!
I tried the newer foam sleeves from my SCL-4 on these pair and it does NOT block out as much noise!
It's not really the fault of the foam sleeve but the earpiece itself as the stem is TOO SHORT!
With the SCL-4 (previously E4c), you would stick the earpiece right into the ear canal for a tight fit and lower the volume on the mp3 device to its lowest setting!
With the SE530, I had to "increase" the volume setting because noise was getting in!
NONE of the plastic ear sleeves fit while the newer foam sleeve was the best fit but it did NOT go into the ear canal as deeply as the SCL-4 version!
Also, the earpieces are freakin' HUGE (relative to the SCL-4) that I'm STILL NOT comfortable with it!!
Hence the lower marks!
BTW... I have some ringing (i.e. tinitus) in the ears which is why I prefer the sound isolation feature and could hear "some" of the music tones but nothing special!
Lastly, to those that prefer "BASS"... WHY?!
Unless you listen to Hip hop or heavy metal type music, there's NO NEED for LOTS of bass which really KILLS the music! There's TOO MUCH emphasis on bass by many people!! You do NOT need bass for vocal music, jazz or classical music, not even most of the pop music! Enjoy the music as it's played! In live concerts, there's really not "much" emphasis on Bass unless you only want the musicians to play a bass guitar or play the bass notes of the songs!! Give it a rest with Bass!
Pros:
Good sound but nothing spectacular!
Cons:
-OVERPRICED & EXPENSIVE!
-TOO Short earpiece stem so noise leakage IS a problem! Ear sleeves are rendered Ineffective due to big earpieces and short stem!
Don't buy if you "really" want bass!!
Amazing
By Rich (Minneapolis) on March 4, 2009
I was using the original E1's from my days playing in a band and decided it was time for an upgrade. I researched just about every earphone out there without paying to much attention to the cost and decided that since I have always had luck with Shure products that was what I chose. These earphones are the real deal. The sound is absolutely amazing. My car I thought had a great system but after using th SE530's on vacation I thought something was wrong with my cars system. With the triple drivers you hear everything the way it is meant to be heard.
FIVE STARS PLUS.
Double Your Music
By Micah on February 9, 2009
All that I have to say is that the dynamic response of the 530's is drastic enough of an improvement to make you want to revisit all of your music to hear what you have been missing!
Prefer the scl5
By grant on November 27, 2008
These are great quality sounding headphones. But I find them a little less comfortable than the scl5 due the lack of the stiffening wire in the cord near the earpiece. The stiffening wire of the scl5 allows a little space to be left around the top of the ear so the cord doesn't press against the ear so much.
Heads & Shoulders Above
By Mark on October 22, 2008
I've tried most of the top brands and models now and found these to be amazing as far as quality of sound.
I don't thin the PTH unit is of any value whatsoever. The unit is to bulky to carry easily, and I find it just as easy to remove one bud to hear someone than carrying the PTH unit for such a small "convenience".
I would rate these much better than the Westones that I used before these.
Fantastic
By R on June 5, 2008
There are several things that determine the quality of these headphones. The equipment thru which you are listening, the quality of the recording, and the quality of your ears (if you have ANY hearing loss). No matter how great and perfect the headphones are, the music won't sound good if one of the above is off. If all of the above listed items are great, these headphones are as well. Fantastic sound with a good player, good ears, and a great recording... I highly recommend them.
Numero Uno
By Angelo on May 22, 2008
While traveling I have used since their introduction the Bose around ear headsets and just recently decided to purchase the Shure SE530-PTH headset.. There was no comparison in regards to the fidelity and quality... The Shure beat the Bose on all counts especially comfort...
On this first trip, I switched between the Bose and the Sure many times to compare them, and found little difference with regards aircraft noise.. On both, I felt the engines of the 747 coming through my body, and not through the headsets. The real difference was comparing a variety of music from Jazz, Opera, to Salsa with each headset. The Shure beat out the Bose in brightness and reality of sound at one level, and another just the shear magnificence of sound. I still have to adjust the in ear fit of the Shure, but the comfort level after 16 hours on planes was great!! Also, the in-flight movie was a great listening experience. I also did a short comparison to the Bose in-ear set, and there was not comparison. The Bose in-ear was uncomfortable, kept falling out of my one ear or another, and the noise from the aircraft was nearly unbearable.
I highly recommend the Shure 530-PTH for air travel and as for normal use, they are unbeatable. Upon seeing the users of the Bose headsets in the aircraft, I could not help feeling that they were using antiquated equipment.
UNBELIEVABLE!!
By E on May 22, 2008
I bought mine after seeing all of the great reviews here and at other sites. I enjoy good music with my Ipod while working around the house and exercising.
When they got here and I heard them, I was just blown away at the sound quality. So then my wife, who owns Bose, Sennheiser and Sony headphones put these on...and wouldn't give em back to me. Like the reviewer above, she is very hard to please also. And she loves em. So I bought her a pair also. She says that they are the best gift anyone has ever given her. TRUE STORY!
And Shure honors their 2 yr warranty, no questions asked. Both pairs have had to go back in the past 3 mos. Repair?? Nope. New pair 5 days later. What else can you ask??
Just buy em. You won't regret it.
Damn...!!!

I got in to an adventure looking for a noise canceling headphones for my Mp3 player. I met several items on the way, saw some great products. I bought one of greatest products of o good brand. It was an in-ear earphone. I said "WOW, this product is awesome!!!!" Then time went by and i realised that for that price i wasn't getting a high performance from it. Then i saw SE530-PTH. I looked at the item and investigated it very carefully for days. I gave a green light to SE530-PTH and wanted to give it a try at least. When i tried the item, I hated the day i entered www.earphonesolutions.com. I hated SE530-PTH the most. Because now i have to listen to my music archive all over again (about 40.000 Songs), and now i am listening my 40.000 song archive as if i never had those songs Because they sound different, better, best ever. Damn you SE530-PTH. You are PERFECT...!!!

Like the Bose in the house
By E on October 14, 2007
You will NOT believe that all of this sound comes out of these earbuds. My wife, who is EXTREMELY hard to please, I've almost given up, put these on and just smiled unbelievably. Her words, "these sound like the big Bose on our stereo. They are that good! Now she wants a pair for her Ipod too.
I tried the 310's first, they were very good but a lil bit scratchy. Then I tried the 210's and they just didn't get there at all.
If you appreciate good music, loud or not, in your ears, BUY THESE EARPHONES!! If you can afford them, you will not regret it!!

sabastion is bang on many say the bass is a bit overpowering but i think its clean clear punchy and sweet with super clear high detail mids and super sharp highs with a hint of roll off in the very upper frequency range making for superb musical perfection, iem's dont come better as of yet i prefer these to the frankly ugly triple fi's and anything below is just a step down,if you appreciate your music and want the best portable solution for earphones these are the best at the time of this review, roll on them westone 3's success or fail i cant wait to find out if they kick these off the top the triple fi's didnt
INCREDIBLE
By Sebastian on March 7, 2007
The sound is INCREDIBLE!! These are a replacement for the ShureE3c headphones and what a replacement. Much Much better sound and the bass is great not over powering but just right. The fit of the headphones is great too when jogging they stay in place and sound great i would say it is worth the money
The new Shure SE530-PTH with triple driver comes in first place for sound and comfort. The SE530-PTH includes the PTH (push-to-hear) accessory. The major difference between the Triple.Fi, UM2 and the SE530-PTH will be personal taste. The SE530-PTH outputs slightly more detail in the mid range; the Triple.Fi outputs the most detail on the high frequency range (sometimes too much) while the UM2 has stronger bass than both SE530 and Triple.Fi. Overall the SE530-PTH is slightly brighter. The UM2 is slightly more balanced (flatter) than the SE530 and the Triple.Fi. The UM2 sells for less but both the Triple.Fi and SE530PTH are triple drivers. The SE530-PTH includes the PTH (push-to-hear) accessory and it comes with a 2 Year Warranty while the Triple.Fi and UM2 do not include the PTH (you can purchase it for $59) but come with a 2 Year Warranty as well. Fit and comfort are very similar between the UM2 and the SE530-PTH and not so great with the Triple.Fi for those customers that want a flush fit.
Those who can afford will experience the greatest detail on mids and highs. If that is what your music needs (or if that is what you like best) the SE530 will deliver! Also excellent choice for isolation and comfort. Great for working out and flying first class :)!
