My zune just blows my mind now with my shure e4s. cannot say enough about the rich bass, crispy highs, and full sound that comes out of these little beggars! i would like a shorter cord, but other than that, these things just keep on pumping, whether it's van halen, will smith, or nickel creek, it's all good!
By milkpowder on October 14, 2006

Comments:

Buttery smooth midrange and pretty good bass, but highs are slightly rolled off and lack detail. ER4 has better detail, albeit less smooth. Good for all genres of music.

I bought these with a little hesitation. I had read so many warnings about how it would take a few tries or days to get used to them and get the highest quality sound...wrong!

they sounded great from day one. no problem withthe fit, and the bass sounds rich and as full as i had hoped for. I used the original gray rubber (silicone?) plugs that were attached to the unit upon purchase and found them ideal. i tried the other...but or me the originals were best. I had poreviously purchased some eymotics (not sure about the spelling) that were supposed to be perfect for the ipod...and they were tooharsh, too brilliant, and lacking in bass response. iam glad i bought these and the service was incredible! Only two days for the free delivery to arrivew and I will reccommend these headphones and this company to everyone!

I bought these headphones online about 2 weeks ago and they are amazing. Absolutely no complaints. They are comfortable, provide great sound (bass is wonderful), and are the best headphones i've ever had!! Given I have only had the iPod headphones before these. But yes, buy now..

I think the sound, fit and quality of these 'phones is the very best -- much prefer these to the top of the line Ulitmate Ears, which are slightly "warmer" sounding but too big and bulky for me. Fragile? I think not -- my wife put mine through a full wash cycle when she accidentally put them in the wash with my workout towel, in which I had foolishly wrapped them for storage in my gym bag after a workout. The phones play just as well now as they did before the accidental washing! Takes a lickin' and keeps right on tickin'! After much experimentation, these are definitely the 'phones of choice.

The E4Cs are my first pair of IEMs and i am very impressed. I have tried all of the sleves and flanges though and they are all a bit uncomfortable to me. On the other hand, I havent even had them for 2 days. As other users have mentioned above, acoustic music sounds amazing. Also, even though it is not my favorite, a lot of heavy bass rap sounds quite good. I have also sampled the UM2s and the Etys and i believe the etys are the best of the three for clarity, fullness, and highs. The difference between the E4Cs and the UM2s as far as bass goes is not that much in my book.

Awesome product! In the first few days I had some trouble getting the bass but now it's just perfect. I upgraded from the E2 and all I can tell is that it was worth every penny. Specialy with the great deal Earphone Solutions gave me. I sent them an email and they quoted me $179.99 and included the airline adaptor on top of the free shipping.

I've had these for about 3 months and will now have to return them to the manufacturer because the left earphone lost volume - it plays at about half that of the right. What a shame. Thinking of picking up the UM2s. I'll probably dump my replacement Shure E4Cs on eBay when I get them.
By DAC on September 16, 2005

Comments:

I love them. Clean, warm sound...plenty of bass for my taste. I tried the E3Cs and these are far better, I noticed the improved lows immediately...glad I bought them and at this site's price...can't beat it.

While I like this earphones, a favorite of my daughter, I personally prefer the UM2 and SHURE 5. They''re both a bit more expensive but worth the price in my opinion. Curiosly my daughter does like them better than her SHURE 5 (which she managed to lose). The Bass range is good, although not important to me as I prefer classical music where Bass isn't as important. Especially good for on the go use.

Bought these but returned them within 14 days. Why you ask? I listen to a lot of metal and love bass. These just didn't cut it. Although the fit was very good I just couldn't get past the weak bass response. Don't get me wrong, these are high quality but I honestly found the bass lacking with the iPod. It depends how much you like bass in your face!

If you love the sound and good quality of music you better try out this brand or go to bose.

I've heard differing opinions on "burn-in" with canal phones, but after about a month of listening to the e4cs, I have to say they are wonderful, and sound better than when I first started listening to them. The highs are as detailed as ever, but not shrill, which I sometimes felt intitally. The base is there - really nice and tight. At first I didn't hear it. I will probably try the UM2's one day, but for now, the Shure e4c keeps a smile on my face, and offers many "Wow, that sounds amazing" moments.
By Shaf on June 27, 2005

Comments:

These are excellent - the best earphones I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.

The only down side I found was the build quality on them is sub-standard. The moulding is not smooth and the plastic is slightly bubbled. Has anyone else had experience of this??

I will be hesitantly returning my pair for a refund. Shame . . .

I do agree with FLAVIO's review regarding sounds of E4c and E5c. The E5Cs sound is much more fuller and grander than any other earphones that i have tried so far and sound like a full range open back headphones like Grados SR1s but not quiet that good with a proper headphone amplifier.
The E4Cs sound in other hand is very clear and bright and also comfortable to listen to for less complex music. Also they are much easier to put inside ears than E5Cs. I have them both and I use my E5Cs to listen to more complex music and for long listening sessions. But for Train journeys and at work, I found that my E4Cs are much more comfortable to listen to and are quicker to put in and off my ears.So I havethe best of both worlds.

Comments:

After trying all earphones last week (big mistake :)), at the end, all seemed very confusing.

The E4c is the best earphone for songs that have an "empty background", for example an acoustic guitar with a strong vocal presence. The E4c sounds beautifully. The emptiness on the background adds to a beautiful, pure and crystal clear foreground.

With songs that have more instruments and no pauses, the Shure E5c and UM2 still sound better with more body and fullness filling the background nicely on songs that you want that feeling. The E5c and UM2 are warmer than the E4c. The E4c, when it's a song that requires warmth, might let you feeling with some "electronic / digital" taste in your mouth.

On a couple of songs I could not tell the difference between E4c and the E3c and on some songs the highs of the E4c sounded a bit too much for my ears. With songs with fewer instruments and an empty background you can hear the E3c and E5c hissing a bit (more or less depending on the recording -- no biggie -- but also in comparison to the E4c). The UM2 sounds great and on a few songs it was muddier than the E5c, E3c and E4c.

Conclusion I got from this marathon: it all depends on the song you are listening to.

This was a bit rushed comparison and not made properly because I started listening to ALL earphones we carry and that was just too overwhelming. In the very near future I should be able to do something more deserving of our readers' attention.

Most comfortable earbuds that I have used. After several 2 hour flights, I haven't had any stretched or ichy ears like I get from OE iPod earbuds or supra-aural headphones Very precise mid-range. excellent soundfield- beats my Sennheiser HD 25's when tuning effects for recordings. The E4C's seem to have a bump in response around 4 to 5 KHz that makes vocals pop of of a mix. I never really noticed a soundfield phenomenon with other earbuds or headphones, but to go back and listen to iPod original equipment earbuds, and the premium earbuds from Apple, the highs and mids sound like they are at the center of your head and the bass is out in the periphery.
With the E4C's I have heard some instruments in the 30 Hz range, but the bass isn't prominent. The bass is in the proper place in the soundfield. My E4C's are keepers since they isolate noise on airplanes so well and pack in a laptop bag much easier than full size headphones.
By Anon. on May 30, 2005

Comments:

The E3s were far superior in precision, clarity, and detail to any earphones I had tried before them, but the E4cs take these qualities to an even higher level.
By Snowmac on May 29, 2005

I have always liked the Shure E3Cs. The E4Cs have a more balanced sound with plenty of bass. They have become my favorite. Earphonesolutions had a great price and quick delivery.
By ak3515 on May 26, 2005

Comments:

These earphone are superior in sonic range and clarity to the already fine sound of the E3c.

Extreme detail on the mid and high range providing a very clean background. One of the best earphones for jazz, classical and songs that require a clean background but have few instruments in the music. The SCL4 has emphasized mids and highs with weaker bass. If you are looking for something more balanced, the Shure SE210 could be a better and cheaper solution. Comfort and fit are very good and when you purchase the Shure earphones from Earphone Solutions you are guaranteed the 2 Year no hassle replacement or repair by Shure.
Best for songs with a vocal and an acoustic guitar for example. Recommended for the kind of songs that would benefit from an "empty", clean background, crispy output and don't need much bass. Not recommended for songs that have more than 3-4 instruments that require fuller, warmer sound as the SCL4 outputs a very crispy sound.
