Originally developed for professional musicians, the Shure SCL3 earphones combine WideBand MicroDriver technology with a sound isolating design to deliver rich, detailed sound with improved high end while blocking outside noise -- ideal for optimizing your listening experience with portable MP3, DVD, and CD players as well as all other audio sources.
Sound Isolating Technology
The Shure SCL3 in ear design works like an earplug to block background noise naturally. This enables you to listen comfortably at lower volumes-even in loud environments. And unlike bulky headphones utilizing active noise cancellation technology, no artifacts are introduced into your listening experience. Sound isolating earphones are also much smaller and don't require batteries (passive).
Speaker Type: WideBand MicroDrivers
The SCL3 speakers are constructed with studio-grade components to produce exceptional audio clarity, delivering detailed highs and enhanced bass that allows you to hear parts of your music you've never heard before (that is true!).
Personal Fit Kit
Because every ear is different, Shure SCL3 Earphones come with a pair of disposable Foam Sleeves, three pairs (small, medium, large) of Flex Sleeves, and three pairs of Soft Flex Sleeves (small, medium, large) to ensure the ideal personalized fit.
Secure In Ear Design
The soft, flexible sleeves in the Fit Kit gently contour to the inside of your ear to create a comfortable, secure fit, so that the earphones don't fall out while exercising. The Shure SCL3's are also compatible with custom-molded sleeves, made by a hearing specialist, for the ultimate in fit and comfort.
Lightweight Construction
Weighing only 0.9 oz (28g), the Shure SCL3 is among the lightest earphones on the market.

The SCL3 earphone comes with a stylish, compact carrying case. The cable spool inside provides a convenient, tangle-free way to store your earphones.

SLC3
By Steve on January 12, 2009
I bought the SLC# and the sound is amazing. it took a little bit of time to get them seated right and the only one's I could get a proper fit with were the triple flange. the base is weak until you get a proper seal and from there it's isolation and range is great.
Great earphones

I've owned these earphones for over 3 years. I broke them in Zurich (they fell out and got run over) and I ordered a replacement. Great price from an authorized dealer. I really missed having them around - especially on the trains and the plane. Glad to have my replacement set!
2 yrs

Used these for 18 months and never could get them seated right. Constant struggle to keep them in correctly. Lost the rubber cover in my ear canal and now they just died. Right side quit working.

I bought this...a few years ago. The sound is great, but the bass is a bit weak. One of the pins broke inside my ear after about 1 yr and half of use.

With the impedance of these headphones varying from around 30 to 600ohms, it should be suggested that, unless your device has a hefty output voltage, you either make a CMoy amp or purchase a headphone amplifier. There will be no base to speak of until there is sufficient voltage to overcome the resistance of these cans. If you are wondering why you bought these, plug them into a good headphone amp, and stop wondering. The difference is like that between night and day.

after about 2 hours of listening, love em. Little bit difficult to get a good seal, but once you do it sounds great. Thanks for the great service too!

I have Shure E3c, E5c and Westone UM2. At this price you can't go wrong with E3C, much better vaule than E5C I highly recommend E3c for it's amazing music reproduction. Having said that if you really like music and have more money to spend go for the Westone UM2. It's just unbelieveable.

As would be expected, it took me about a week or two to figure out the
E3's and the foam plugs but then it was total and complete addiction.
Having tried several earplugs and being a weekend musician (and so
discriminating of audio devices), I had more or less stopped using
portable music devices because of the crappy sound. The high end
distortion of MP3's (low bitrate I'm finding is the main problem) and the
cheap Digital to Analog converters in the various portable CD players I
tried all had this unfortunate side effect of first bugging me and
eventually giving me a headache. So I more or less wished for my cassette
tape walkman back. sort of ;) At least it had better sound. Then I risked
it again and got a Creative MuVo NX. The headphones that came with it, as
well as the other cheap ones I tried, still produced the crappy sound but
at least no headache. But I still felt I'd wasted 100 bucks on the MuVo.
I thought I had one chance to smooth out the sound, the headphones were my
last chance for an analog filter. After much reasearch I found your site,
I found the E3's, and being familiar with Shure I hoped for the best.
Thankfully I have been nothing but pleased with the results. The E3's are
smooth and clear. They make the MuVo a new animal. Now I can tell when the
plugs get loose and I lose base response.
The fact that they work as a noise canceling device (basic ear plug) as
well has caused me to start using them in an unsupported way... as ear
plugs in my shop, when running power tools. Carefully I got to the point
of using them in this way, first trying them without music, as purely
noise cancelation devices, and then adding the tunes. I attach the MuVo to
a baseball cap and wrap up the chord of the E3's and tie them out of the
way, so all parts and chords are on back of the cap, wrapped up in this
head-only-music-producing-outside-noice-cancelation system. People tell me
it looks dork having the MuVo sitting off the back of my cap, but I
won't be swayed. I'm nearly to the stage of buying another MuVo or Ipod
shuffle and another pair of E3's to dedicate to this job.
Anyway.... thanks for the great site and review of the E3's
...and restoring my faith in portable music!

I can’t say I’m really a connoisseur of headphones. But as far as what I was looking for these are the real ***. I’m using them on a road bike and I can actually hear the music without turning up so loud it hurts. The wind doesn’t blow them out and I didn’t have to tape the cord to my leathers to keep them from blowing out.
I haven’t been on a 10 hr ride yet to see how the comfort is but I don’t see where it’s going to be bad.

I just got back from a two day motorcycle trip to NY and found these earphones to provide great sound, noise reduction and comfort for me.
By Mark on August 8, 2005
These were given to me by a friend and they are without a doubt the best earphones I have used for the Ipod. Very comfortable and with the Comply Canal tips they really help cut down on surrounding noise even while riding the tractor cutting the lawn.

Fantastic. Made me discover the world of midranges... With cheap headphones you always have to EQ in a kind of 'V' shape. With this ones, I never had to EQ any player. Simply fantastic and powerfull.
By Dreadwing on June 17, 2005
These are great you can't go wrong with Shure
By Tones on June 15, 2005
Variety of earpiece sleeves guarantees fantastic fit. The sound is great, and for its price, will be hard to beat.

Great Price!
By Nate on May 28, 2005
Nice bass, the highs are muffled. If u r going to spend $$$ in earphones get the UM2 or e5. This one is mediocre
By Minyan on May 27, 2005
beautiful imageing all the way up to the mid hi's, but has a tendency to mute the higher frequencies such as certain details to a hi hat hit. but that can be a good thing cause it'll save you from fatigue if you're listening to hours and hours of music on end.
By Mark Chally on May 17, 2005
I hate cheap stuff that doesn't fit or sound right. The Shure E3c have nice heavy duty leads and are otherwise ruggedly constructed (and you don't hear the rustle of the leads in your ear when you move around.) They also come with a great selection of earpiece sleeves to optimally fit your ear. (I like the clear silicone ones most, as they seem to provide the tightest bass, and I've never heard so subtle trebble.) It takes a little bit getting used to having the leads routed over the ears, but the real payoff is how comfortable they feel and how great they sound for HOURS on end.
By Mark Chally on May 17, 2005
(of course, I meant "treble.")

I am a drummer, used E1's for years, the e3's offer great value and sound really nice... thanks to fma solutions you rock, sending all my colleagues to you......i should have been a salesman!

Awesome earphones. Takes a while to get used to but once you get it right you won't go back.
Very well-built, strong mid-range puts the SCL3 as one of the best earphones for audio books and an excellent option for outdoors, jogging, etc. as well.
Cable design could be improved as the exit of the cable shoots straight up falling many times right across the ear instead of behind the back of the ear.
Its 2 year warranty and build quality set it apart from the Etymotic ER6i and ER4P (ER4P has greater detail on the highs but its lack of bass is disappointing). Ultra-lightweight, sound isolating earphones deliver high-performance, full-range audio to enhance your music listening and gaming experience.
It comes with a 2 Year no hassle replacement or repair by Shure when purchased from EarphoneSolutions
Best for Audiobooks and music that you want or require stronger mids.
