Originally developed for professional musicians, the Shure SCL2 combines Dynamic MicroDriver speaker technology with a sound isolating design to deliver rich, full-range sound while blocking outside noise -- ideal for enhancing your listening experience with portable MP3, DVD, and CD players as well as all other audio sources.
SCL2 Sound Isolating Technology
The Shure SCL2's in ear design works like an earplug to block background noise naturally. This enables you to listen comfortably at lower volumes -- even in loud environments. And unlike bulky headphones utilizing active noise cancellation technology, no artifacts are introduced into your listening experience. The Shure SCL2 Sound isolating earphones are also much smaller and don't require batteries (passive).
SCL2 Speaker Type: Dynamic MicroDrivers
The Shure SCL2's speakers are constructed with studio-grade components, producing outstanding audio clarity that allows you to hear your music like never before.
Shure SCL2 Personal Fit Kit
Because every ear is different, SCL2 Earphones come with three pairs (small, medium, large) of disposable Foam Sleeves, and three pairs (small, medium, large) of Flex Sleeves to ensure the ideal personalized fit.
SCL2 Secure In Ear Design
The soft, flexible sleeves in the Fit Kit gently contour the inside of the ear for a comfortable, secure fit so that the SCL2 earphones don't fall out while you're exercising.
SCL2 Low-Profile Earphone Cables
The Shure SCL2c's cables pass behind the ear - out of sight and out of the way -- to provide a more comfortable, discreet fit.
Lightweight Construction
Weighing only 1 oz (30g), these earphones are lightweight and comfortable enough for any portable listening application -- packing a big punch in such a compact package.
SCL2 Earphones Carrying Case

Waste of Time and Money

I am a drummer who does a lot of gigs where in-ear monitors are the key to performing at your best. I picked up a pair of these as a cheap alternative to custom in-ear monitors.
I admit, they have better sound than any cheap ear buds or headphones you would buy in a convenient store. The highs are great, the mids are so-so. There is no bass AT ALL!! I am a bass fanatic and the bass helps me keep a good rhythm. I checked the seal with all the tips included in the fit kit. None of them work.
After wearing them for about three minutes, my ears began to hurt. I tuck the back of the earphones into my ear lobe so they sit flush in my ear. They were pulling by ears back. The instruction manual said differently, so I tried the recommended way. They fell out of ears and onto the floor within ten seconds. My way actually made them stay in my ears, and this was just sitting listening to my iPod. I don't even want to know what would happen on stage.
In short, I have already planned to return them to the store where I bought them. I will get my money back and through in a few extra bucks to get the Westone UM1 or UM2. My opinion, Shure makes great mics I use in the studio and onstage, but go with a trusted company for your in-ear monitors.

i don't know what's up with the bad reviews, but considering the price, i am very satisfied. the sound is crisp and clear, the sound isolation is fab and i am not having any issues with discomfort. i agree that the bass isn't quite there, but these are a DEFINITE upgrade from ipod earbuds. who uses those anyway?? unless you're into your music sounding tinny...
Less Bass?
By BW on January 18, 2007

Could these have any less bass??? People are ragging on the iPod ear buds but, they sound a whole lot better than these. Yes, wearing correctly, and the sound isolation is good but, I can't tweak my equalizer enough to get "any" bass response. What a waste

Amazing! I work as a pet groomer and these not only sound great, but they stay in place perfectly through all the movement my day entails.
And...where did all the barking dogs and dryer music go?
By David on October 4, 2006

The isolation isn't 100%. Yes, I wear them correctly with correct bud sizes applied. Traffic can still be heard outdoors. You can hear speech audio at low volumes and understand what is being said...yes. Unfortunately when walking, each footstep creates vibrations through the body. Shure gets rid of outside noise but creates indoor noise.

These are great. However, if you wear them like normal earphones, they will sound terrible. You really must loop them over your ears or else miss the party!!!

Just got a pair... after an afternoon of listening I'm pretty disappointed and am already considering returning them... the bass is truly terrible right out of the box, BELIEVE ME... the sony 71s provide much better sound and just as good isolation, but the cord on the 71s is horrendous and completely kills the product... I'll give these a week of heavy use to see if they "break in", but thats it

Despite reports that these are uncomfortable, they are great! It is the new soft black rubber earbuds that are the trick. I wear them for hours at work (radiologist).
Good luck.

These headphones are pretty good. They fit in my ear perfectly. I've had many other pairs of in-ear headphones but could never find a pair that wouldn't keep falling out or just felt uncomfortable. I have small ears. The sound isolating is out of this world. I have two dogs that just bark all the time. Now I can just zone them out.

I'm a singing drummer in a band and I bought a pair of these for sound isolation of vocals. The y work awesome; no distortion at all, crisp, clean sounds. I would highly recommend gettin a pair.

I bought a pair of these for my brother based on the reviews I've read. I borrowed them once and was amazed at the outside noise reduction, not to mention the great sound they produced. I have just ordered a pair for myself. I wish I knew about these guys when I bought my brother's set; would have saved thirty bucks!

I've had these for over two years. Durable and (as this site suggests) a GREAT first step into GOOD earphones. I won't give them 5, because there are better products out there (for more $$$) but at their price point, they are tough to beat. You need to get a good seal and burn them in a little. the results are worth it.

I must say that my first impression of these earphones was VERY POOR after having "upgraded" from Sony's fontopia earphones.
While i will agree with most that the high range is very pronounced and clear (allowing you to hear a greater spectrum of sounds), the bass was a GREEAT problem. They even distort where others dont. I will now be selling these as i am a fan of bass.

These earphones are great for the price. It does take a while to get used to them, the first time I tried them on the first idea to pop in my mind was how I knew i made a mistake buying these and I should take them back, however after fiddling with them, and getting the correct seal, these are great. I've used mine for 6 months, about 3+ hours a day and they still work great.

Excellent! Amazing sound quality & isolation! ConsideR buying better ones, get Westone UM2/Shure E5c rather than Shure E3c/E4c!

I've had these earphones since Xmas, and I absolutely love them. The thing that first amazed me was how much bass they get when equalized. I originally thought that earbuds were destined to have poor bass, but boy was I wrong. Many people will say that these earphones are pretty "muddy" and I agree, BUT, if you have a MP3 player that has treble control, it eliminates the problem. And with the soft-flex sleeves, they are very comfertable. I hope to one day own a pair of E4C's, but for now, these earbuds make me more than happy.

Excellent!! The sound is amazing with this earphones. I had a pair of Apple in ear, but the Shure ones are superiors in sound and ear fit. They should be created in white in order to match the iPod color.
Thanks Shure !!! from Venezuela
Huge upgrade from stock earbuds. A great first in-ear earphone. Good bass and much more detail than consumer in-ear earphones. The cables on the SCL2 Black is 5 inches shorter than the SCL2 clear. We prefer them with the shorter cables because it's less to deal with and still enough to reach the iPod on your waist. The sound of its direct competitor, the UE's 3STUDIO, is slightly better but the fit and comfort of the SCL2 and 3STUDIO are very different. The 3STUDIO is designed to stick out of the ear and if you wear them that way the 3STUDIO will be more comfortable than the SCL2 which is designed to stay flush in the ear. Some of our customers prefer the fitting of the 3STUDIO. The SCL2 are very nicely finished and they come with a 2 Year no hassle replacement or repair policy by Shure when purchased from EarphoneSolutions.
Best for mowing the lawn and commuting and as a first in-ear earphones. An affordable solution in the in-ear universe.
