The Klipsch S4i II is finally here, and if you have been looking for a high-end set of earphones to work with your iPhone or iPod touch, the wait is over. The S4i was designed specifically for Apple's mobile devices in conjunction with Apple. That means that this set of earphones delivers the function and usability that you expect from Apple and the comfort and sound quality you demand from Klipsch.

The Klipsch S4i has got the same dynamic sound that the Image S4 is praised for, along with the same great comfortable fit and superior noise isolation. Engineered for precise, proper alignment, these in-ear earphones won’t cause the strain, irritation or discomfort of standard, round earbuds. Conventional earbuds are often too large to fit comfortably into the ear completely, but the innovative oval design of the s4 and the s4i means that you can press play and drown out the outside world for hours and hours without hurting your ears.

Speaking of tuning out, that's exactly what the noise-isolating S4i earphones will let you do. Unlike expensive noise canceling headphones which mirror out ambient noise electronically, noise-isolating headsets are constructed to filter out noise by limiting the amount of noise that is able to enter the ear. Using a unique plastic sleeve, Klipsch noise-isolating earphones ensure that you have a private listening experience that isn't hampered by chatty coworkers, traffic noises or the radio station playing overhead that you put on your 'phones to avoid listening to in the first place. And to ensure the best fit, your S4i earphones come with 4 different sizes of plastic ear tips – all while keeping the earbud smaller than a US quarter. (For the lowdown on noise canceling headphones versus sound isolating headphones, check out our handy comparison chart) What sets the S4i apart is its built in microphone and the three-button remote built into the earphone cord, hailed as "the first third-party headset to offer full control of your iPhone..."

The omnidimensional mic is located at the yoke of the earbud cables and incorporates echo cancellation so you can make clear, intelligible calls without worrying about external noise polluting your conversations. So how does the Klipsch S4i sound? Like a much more expensive pair of earphones, actually. Each earphone contains a micro-sized speaker inside it, so you can have that "live music" sound. You can experience the same dynamic vocals, booming bass and heart-racing percussion beats that you get with a pair of expensive high performance headphones or a pair of pricey balanced armature earbuds.

We think the S4i is one of the best headsets for iPhone users. But don’t take our word for it; try out the Klipsch S4i and see why Gizmodo calls them a "no-brainer" for iPhone users. The headset is even fully compatible with the "VoiceOver" feature introduced in the latest generation of iPod Nano - hear the name of a song or artist with the press of a button. And remember, when you come back to Earphone Solutions and write a review of your S4is, you can earn points toward our exclusive rewards program.

Need a sonic soul mate for your iPod or iPhone? Meet the Image S4i in-ear headset, a breakthrough product with a lot to offer, including premium sound, unbeatable comfort, full music control and highly intelligible phone calls.
  • Advanced 3-button mic and remote system
  • Full music and/or voice control on select Apple products*
  • Award-winning sound performance
  • Patented oval ear tips for unbeatable comfort
  • 360° mic yields highly intelligible phone calls
  • Superior noise isolation
  • Amazing bass response
  • Durable cables with built-in strain relief
  • Available in a sleek black or pristine white finish
  • Use like headphones with other MP3 players (3.5mm headphone jack required)
Thanks to its advanced 3-button mic and remote system, which Klipsch designed in conjunction with Apple, the Image S4i is the first third-party headset to offer full control of your iPhone, iPod touch and iPod music and video content.*

Unlike other headsets, the S4i positions its mic and remote at the cable yoke to create a more natural feel when answering calls and controlling music. The mic is a highly intelligible 360° design with echo cancellation, so you’ll be heard crystal clear and won’t have to worry about the external noise around you.

Compatibility
The remote and mic are supported only by iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod nano (4th and 5th generation), iPod Classic (120GB), and iPod touch (2nd generation), MacBook, Macbook Pro and Mac Pro (2009 models). The remote is supported by iPod shuffle (3rd generation). Requires latest iPod software. Audio is supported by all iPod models. Mic and call/music button control features functional with 1st generation iPhones and iPhone 3G. Volume Controls are not compatible with 1st generation and 3G iPhone. Also compatible with VOIP, Skype, iChat, and audio recording applications.

Amazing Comfort and Fit
When it comes to comfort, no one beats Klipsch. Our patented oval ear tips naturally fit the contours of your ear canals, providing a secure fit and comfortable long-term wear. With these tips, you’ll also get superior noise isolation, a characteristic that lets you enjoy music at lower, safer volumes, as well as achieve excellent bass response.

Premium Sound
The Image S4i delivers award-winning sound performance that truly makes it seem like you have “live music” in your head—bold bass, sizzling percussion and smooth vocals. In fact, the S4i sounds a lot more expensive than it actually is thanks to an exclusive micro speaker in each ear piece.

Added Frills
The Image S4i is available in two color options, either a piano black finish with silver accents or a pristine white finish with black and silver accents. It comes with a 2-year warranty and includes a premium carrying pouch, four pairs of different-sized ear tips, an ear tip cleaning tool and a clothing clip.

Image S4i FAQs

Will the Image S4i work with any cell phone?

The Image S4i is designed to work seamlessly with the iPhone 3GS. It will work with the iPhone 3G and first generation iPhone, but with limited functionality. The S4i’s volume up and down feature will not work on these older products. Because the S4i features an Apple chip, we cannot guarantee what level of functionality it will have with other cell phone brands.

What makes the Image S4i so unique?

The Image S4i is one of the first third party headphones to feature Apple’s advanced three-button microphone and remote system; technology that handles the voice and/or music control of the iPhone 3GS, third generation iPod shuffle, second generation iPod touch, fourth generation iPod nano and the iPod classic 120GB. The remote is also among the first to be fully compatible with the VoiceOver feature on the latest iPod shuffle, letting you hear the name of the playlist, song or artist with the press of a button.

Why is Image S4i mic and remote located at the yoke of the cable?

This is a unique trait that puts the mic and remote at chest level, creating a more natural feel when answering calls and controlling music.

Klipsch S41 iPhone Headphones -
By Ken Hutcherson from Kansas City, Missouri on May 23, 2012
These are EXCELLENT earphones. Not only is the sound reproduction wonderful, BUT, they actually stay in my ear canals MOST OF THE TIME, unlike numerous other High-end, expensive earphones I have purchased over the years.
Pros:
As I stated in my review, they stay in my ears better than other in-ear earphones I have owned. Their sound reproduction is phenomenal.
Cons:
Can't think of a thing (UNLESS YOU COULD MAKE THEM WIRELESS!). I HATE earphone cords!!!!

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Klipsch S4i II
By Matt from WA on April 9, 2012
Upgraded from a set of sennheiser earphones and the difference is amazing. So much more clarity and bass it is unbelievable. Build quality is fantastic and microphone works well even when out running. Only small issue I had is one ear doesn't seem to fit the factory sleeve provided for different sized ear canals. Think I will upgrade the sleeves to the comply tip and see how we go.
Pros:
Sound quality - both earphone and mic.
Build quality.
Nice small 3.5mm Jack
Cons:
Can't seem to get a perfect fit in one ear with the standard sleeves provided for different size ear canals.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Amazing! but...
By Bob Smith from New York, New York on April 2, 2012
Audio-wise, everything about these headphones are amazing. They cancel noise the instant you put them in. One problem I have is that they pop out of your ear rather easily. For example, if I pull the ipod controls remote downward, the earbuds pop right out. They're not that firm in the ears... but they still work brilliantly!
Pros:
sound
Cons:
earbuds barely stay in ear

Klpisch S4i
By John from Alberta, Canada on November 10, 2011
I've only had these for less a couple of days and could only compare then to my current Scosche IDR450's that were $70. I was surprised how small these are. The mids and highs are crisp and clear, (especially snare drums and symbals) compared to the IDR450's. The bass is not as pronouced as the IDR's but the IDR's lack mids and highs. During playback of Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing" in HD, the S4i's the out performed the IDR's. I found that even the largest ear tips are a little too small for my ear canals, and had to push them in pretty far to get a seal. I'll be purchasing new ear tips from "Comply Foam: and this should solve the issue. I don't give 5 stars on any review unless I am totally blown away.
Pros:
Size, light weight, mids and highs.
Hardly notice that they are in your ears.
3 button mic.
Cons:
The larger ear tips are still too small.

Happy with my choice
By Theresa from Fallon, NV on September 17, 2011
Using these headphones with ipod touch and iphone for running. They are so much better than than the stock Apple headphones which just annoy me in both sound and fit. I previously used Sony sport headphones which I'd always been happy with but after many miles together the left earpiece finally died. Wouldn't say that I'm qualified to be considered an "audiophile", but I enjoy my music and want to hear as much range as possible. The Image S4i headphones fit very well and stay put while running (I was surprised!). I love that the vocals come through clearly and there is enough bass to keep pace with my feet. I purchased the Image's during a sale, so I couldn't beat the price and they are definitely an upgrade from my Sonys. My other option was the Etymotics, but the price difference between those and the image were more than I wanted to pay considering how hard I am on my headphones.

Some of my dislikes are the long cord and a bit of wind noise and/or rustling when the cord hit my clothing or earrings. This has been minimized since I now wrap the cord over my ear for running as shown in the Image S4i information insert. none of the above is noticeable while just sitting and listening to music, or walking. And even after reading instructions I still can't get the song advance on the remote to work (could be operator error), it only advances a few bars ahead and not the whole song.

Still think these are a great sounding set of phones for the price!

Pros:
musicality
bass
well made
great fit
Cons:
long cord
occasional rustling while running
Song advance button difficulty

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Good, but not great
By Andris from United States on August 13, 2011
I cannot think of anything particularly negative to say about these. Interestingly, I don't have anything great either. They are reasonably comfortable, the sound is good, and the buttons and mic work well. Being somewhat of an audiophile, I cannot say that the sound blows me away (this is hurt by the earplugs not doing a great job at noise isolation - etymotics does a much better job), but it's a dramatic upgrade over "stock" headphones you may get with your iOS device. Decent buy.
Pros:
Solid feel to buttons.
Mic works well.
Cons:
Needs to isolate noise better

clarity of sound superb
By michael simon from United States on July 20, 2011
i had to listen to my music collection all over again crisp low notes bass awesome i will recommend them to any one
Pros:
good bass midrange

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Great Sound
By Baabiitoon from Winona, MN on June 22, 2011
Sound quality is surprising for in-ear phones. On songs like CSN's Suite: Judy Blue Eyes I can hear the different positions of the musicians relative to the microphones. Bass is not the chest-cavity thumping I expect from big home-speakers (or live music), but much better than I'd expect from such a tiny device. Good fit with the oval pads. The phones are secure when I work out. Microphonics not a problem once I get all the cables arranged.
Pros:
sound quality
fit
controls
Cons:
so far, nothing

Image S4i iPhone Headphones by Klipsch
By Pedro from Centereach, NY on April 22, 2011
Ordered these and was extremely happy with the rich sound and lightweight, use these for the gym and they are awesome. Would recommend these the wire is thin but durable and out of the way.
Pros:
Lightweight & Sound
Cons:
Wire is thin but seems to be strong and adds to the lightweight feature.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Decent headphones
By David from Vancouver, British Columbia on April 1, 2011
This product fits very comfortable in the ear. Good isolation. Decent sound. Different sounds are quite separated, which is a personal preference thing. Heavy bass, also depends on your preference. Mind that the bass powerful enough to overcome delicate sounds though. A lot of times female vocals get suppressed by the bass.

Also the cords of this product is not built for gyms/exercises. If you can't handle things with care, I suggest you pick a brand that features durable cables rather than complaining how horrible the built quality is like many others I have seen on the web.

If you like heavy bass, you'll probably like this product.

Pros:
comfortable
sleek design
reasonable price
Cons:
bass too overpowering
poor female voice performance

I would recommend this item to a friend.

By Jane E from CT on January 6, 2011
I bought these to replace my Bose buds, the right one of which had ceased to function, and which kept losing their plastic earpieces. I based my decision to buy these on reviews, which gave me good guidance. I very much like the S4i - comfortable, excellent sound, well-designed, sturdy. I primarily use them for listening to music on my ipod while working out. Maybe a little pricey.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Unable to use - poorest quality of any headphone I have ever owned.
By HappyZorro from Seattle on December 30, 2010
I am not sure what technical shortcoming causes this issue - but the headphones reverberate any time the cable is touched. Your music is overcome by scraping and thumping sounds as you walk. A complete waste of money. I think that because earphones can't be returned since they've been in your ear, it leads to a total disregard for product quality. I wound up eating the cost. Use caution when buying from this site.
Pros:
I like the reviews before I got the actual product.
Cons:
The slightest touch to the cable creates loud reverberations.

Merchant Response:
That's called microphonics. The sound transmitted from the cables to your auditory sense. It depends on the earphone model and on your bone induction. Depending on your anatomy, this bone induction can be stronger or weaker making that sound louder or lower. If you move the cables away from your ear lobes that should also improve that but a small percentage of people are more sensitive to that sound transmission. Models made by Westone and Shure have no microphonics.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but you have 30 days for an exchange or refund. Please read our return policy for more details.

Very Good Headphones
By Joe from Farmington Hills, Michigan on December 29, 2010
The sound quality is very good, they are very comfortable and the earcaps supplied fit well. They work well with my I touch and the soft carrying case supplied with the earphones is much better than a hard case. I would highly recommend them.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Good Headphones for the price
By Andrew from San Francisco, CA on July 27, 2010
I like these headphones they sound good. Just sometime the bass/lows do not sound as good sometimes, but for the price, I like them since they are pretty comfortable and they work well with the iPhone
Pros:
Decent sound
comparable price
Cons:
cord could be better, bass/lows could also be improved

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Excellent value, performance, ergonomics...all around winner
By Wilkey from Bristow, VA on July 21, 2010
The S4i are my second purchase from Earphone Solutions and I doubt they will be my last. The purchasing experience was flawless, efficient, and transparent. Great job. This is how web shopping should be done. Now, on to the phones. To be completely honest, I bought this pair because I own an iPhone 3GS and was dissatisfied with the Shure phone adapter for the Westone 1 phones which were my first purchase with EPS. In a nutshell, the Shure unit was an inconvenient kludge that was just a mess to use. A functional and ergonomic disaster. Also, I had come to miss the lower registers more and more. Just a note, I wore the 1's almost every day for 3.5 months and they fit absolutely perfectly and provided unbelievable isolation. The bass is just not there contrary to any exhortations to "seek a better fit for better bass."

Back to the S4i. These are just about the perfect phones for an iPhone music listener. The music and call controls are perfectly placed on the yoke and function flawlessly. The sound quality out and in are very good and if I need to provide a bit more clarity, I simply pull the controls up close to my mouth like a mic. Intuitive, easy, and only rarely necessary. The oval eartips provide a noticeably more comfortable fit and are even more unobtrusive than the very good Westone 1. They don't seem to get as hot as fast in the canal. These babies are light, handle well, and look good too. The only thing that would make these even more perfect would be interchangeable cord lengths. The stock cord is just crazy long as it is for most every pair of phones out there. It's just inconvenient and there are few good options for taming it.

As for music reproduction, the sound is full-range, balanced, and non-fatiguing. They simply sound like music. Nuff said.

At a buck under a C-note, these phones are the value of the year. They are the complete package and having tried them, I'd gladly pay twice the price.

Pros:
Excellent fit
Ultra light weight
Pleasing aesthetics
Wonderful, balanced sound from top to bottom
Flawless iPhone 3GS operation
Cons:
Not a thing

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Merchant Response:
Wilkey, thanks for the great review!
