Sturdy All Rounder

Before i begin my review for the Miles Davis, I have had a history using Monster JAMz back then and also wrote a review about it here in Earphone Solutions. Which i subsequently sold my JAMz to a friend with warranty card lost on a friendship price of SGD$60. Partially to tide my wallet over from buying this hefty priced Miles Davis, but the conclusion :
ITS WORTH IT
First Lets See what the Luxurious Looking Package contains :
1. Monster Supertips [1 pair x Small-Med Size, 1 pair x Medium Size]
2. Monster Superfoam tips [1 pair x Regular Size]
3. Monster Silicon Tips [Each pair of S, M, L - Size]
4. Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue' Legacy Edition Collector's Album
5. Miles Davis Tribute Limited Pressed + Serial Numbered Hard Case
6. Miles Davis Tribute Wallet Style Pouch
7. Miles Davis Tribute Clip Pouch
8. Miles Davis Tribute IEM
and the other mini regular throw-ins.
[INITIAL IMPRESSIONS]
With the sound-signature of impression on the JAMz in mind, I had set high expectations on the MDs, Only to find them source-picky before any burn-in, On my Creative Zen X-Fi, It pretty much retained JAMz's Sound Signature, but with slightly more detail and generally sounds shy and congested indicating a need of Driver Burn-In. While on my Cowon J3 Player the highs were extremly harsh if you tweak the volume only slightly louder, And thought I gonna regret my purchase.
Until I Gave it at least a 40~50 Hours of Burn-In, That was where the enjoyment kicks in, and the more accurate part that i shall review on for Miles Davis
[HIGH]
Treble was appropriately done, Sparkle was there with satisfying amount, Despite not as smooth-curvy as the Fischer Audio's DBA-02, Treble Oriented isn't what MDs are made to do in the first place.
[MID]
Here is where Miles Davis Tributes REALLY SHINES! Lush, Warm and Appropriately (which i emphasizes again) Forward-Sounding Mids, Its hard not to immerse in the way Miles Davis Tribute delivers their pleasant mid, The Type of Mid Rendition that will satisfy even the most fussiest of an audiophile.
[LOW]
In Compare to its closer lineage, Namely the Monster Turbine Pro Gold and Coppers, Its Bass is more than the Coppers, Sub ~ Mid-Bass were yet again, appropriately forward and extended in an amount more than the Monster Turbine Pro Coppers but not as cunning and vulgar bass like the Monster Turbine Pro Gold does --- Which its Bass is prominent and til the extend it can be heard creeping up into the MIDs and diluting it as a result.
[SOUNDSTAGE]
Its Soundstage certainly lives up to its gimmick on how you will experience a very 'LIVE Performance' in the Cosy Jazz Lounge Type of Listening Experience, Soundstage is cosy making you feel like the musics were being played at a cosy Jazz Lounge. Vocals were pretty intimate and the instrument seperation were great, Instrument Positioning is extremely impeccable.
[CONCLUSION]
They might seems to be hefty priced, but when you compare to its lil brother - Turbine Pro Copper - which is not priced anywhere lower plus it is not a limited pressing nor does it wins favor over the Miles Davis Tribute with its 'Trying too hard to throw you the details' Sound Signature, With all these Comparisons in mind, In my opinion the Miles Davis Tribute are certainly not anywhere too over-priced and its a great recommend to anyone with the money to grab them.
For those who had the JAMz like i do and feel like considering them, here's something for you all - Compare to JAMz, Its bass impact is more stereo-positioned, Musicality from its excellent Instrument Positioning makes it much more fun and engaging than the JAMz, Not to lastly mention its Trademark MIDs also makes the music more intimate, With no true shortcomings and unlike other flagship IEMs such as IE8 which you may like it initially but always have things to complain about over the time.
For the Miles Davis, Be Assured it will never be the case, While lastly they may not be a true reference level monitor IEMs, They do EVERYTHING very very right and is not picky to genre, something that is rare on the flagship regions of the IEM Competition Market.
Pros:
1. Lush, Warm and Smooth Mids
2. Excellent Instrument Seperation AND Positioning
3. Fun and Engaging Sound Signature
4. Cosy, Jazz-Lounge Like Soundstage which is Intimate yet at the same time not sounding crowded and non-ventilated such as the UM3X
5. Bass Extension is pleasant with appropriate impact for a dynamic driver, very versatile in its responsiveness to DAP's EQ Tweaks and AMPs
6. Very Great All-Rounded with No True Flaws and WeaknessCons:
1. Cable for a product of this price range could have been thicker
2. Strain Relief on the Jack Side could have been more ruggedI would recommend this item to a friend.
Merchant Response:
Thanks for the detailed review Kendric!
