Summary of Customer Ratings & Reviews
I purchased the Roxanne's after quite a bit of in depth research. Previously ear phones were the Shure SE530, Shure SE535s and for the last three or so years I have had the Westone UM3x's. My UM3x's were broken while working out so I began actively looking for something new. I have never liked the idea of custom IEM's based on the lack of resale, continually having to get them refit and the depth they have to have to enter the ear canal. I always purchased what I believed to be the top of the line universal IEM's. The Roxanne's take my music to another level, it's almost as if the sound comes from inside my head as opposed to having the sound-stage outside my head. Simply put, hearing is believing. The only real problem I had was getting used to the size and also how they fit in ear. For the first day or two, they were extremely uncomfortable. I realized that I needed to spin the headphones about 30 degrees as they were putting a lot of pressure on the bottom portion of my ear.
JH Audio Roxanne's ability to bring out the best sound quality is indisputable. The feature that makes Roxanne unique is to offers the listeners the flexibility to fine tune the bass to suit individual's preference. It is however, not perfect due to larger and bulkier than most earphone, cable is thick, which might be cumbersome especially with the bass adjustment on the cable (the bass adjustment in IE 8 is built in the earphone so I thought this is one thing that Sennheiser has an edge design wise). The ear tips provided are uncomfortable to me, so I swapped with another brand's ear tips for comfort after prolong use. So far so good for me despite the minor drawbacks.
In its physical appearance the Roxanne are bigger than other earphones of the same kind but they fit well in the ear. Its frame is big but that's obvious when you fit 12 drivers in each ear. At first they feel big but after a while you get used to them and they feel fine.
It comes with few accessories compared to other earphones; a small variety of eartips, cleaning tool and a very nice black colored aluminum case with brand logo.
Do you want to know how is the sound in an in-ear headphone with 12 drivers? Well, I tell you: it is a great sound! Like a loud explosion inside the ear but nothing that implies any distortion; the sound is very detailed - everything is perfectly separated: bass, mids and highs. Nothing is missing; the truth is this is the best sound I’ve heard so far. The Roxanne comes with a cable that allows control of the bass level, for people who like more or less and to divide it into left or right. It is a great feature for professional musicians and sound engineers, in my opinion.
The bass can be controlled, as I mentioned before, and you can put them at any level you prefer; the control is very easy to operate and it is very sensitive - any little adjustment becomes evident in the songs. The bass is very accurate, precise and natural.
In the mids and highs the separation makes sounds so detailed that I was impressed when I heard sounds and nuances in some songs that I had never noticed before, even with other headphones. That’s the amount of detail the Roxannes yields.
In conclusion I recommend these headphones if you really want to enjoy your music in a very detailed way, they are not as portable as others due to its bigger size but is not something that affects them for my taste.
These sound very good, and they take all sizes of tips. Here I'm using them with Comply Professional tips . The sound is excellent and depends on the type of tip you use. Westone Star tips boost the treble and Comply professional tips boost the spatial imaging because they create additional distance between you and the drivers. The tips that come with the headphones also sound good. These are big and the stick out from your ears, which I like because they display the fact that these are special 12 driver IEMs. However they are not uncomfortable at all as the tip and the cable looping around your ear hold them in place. Highly recommended purchase.
Question & Answers
Questions on JH Audio Roxanne 12 Driver Earphones
Even though this item is marked as pre-order is it still available for purchase?
- Tech Support answered:
- Hi Daniel,
Preorder means we are taking orders for this item every day and the orders are shipping on a first come first serve. When you place your preorder using a credit card, we will only charge you when we ship the product. We receive shipments from JH Audio every week but when we receive the Roxannes, they are all already sold so for that reason the status doesn't change from preorder to order but customers placing preorders are receiving their Roxanne in 3-10 days on average.
Are these universal or custom fit IEMs? Do you need a mould of your ear canal?
- Tech Support answered:
No, these are "Universal Fit" earphones so no custom molds are necessary. These are JH Audio's flagship earphones with 12 drivers per earpiece that are not custom. Which by the way is the way to go in our opinion as you cannot resell a custom, your ears don't stop growing, the material of custom earphones is harder and reaches farther in the ear canal making for a less comfortable experience in the end. There is just too much material in contact with your ear on a custom. In our opinion, the less, the better and less "intrusive" earphones are. Also if you start paying attention to HBO fights, Grammy Awards, rock concerts, CNN, etc, more and more artists and professionals are switching from custom to universal fit earphones. JH, Shure and Westone all paid attention to this natural trend and started making $1,000 plus earphones with universal fit. We have been saying this since 2006 as I personally never liked my custom earphones and made the decision to stop selling them about 8 years ago. Too many unsatisfied customers. Of course some customers love their custom earphones. That was not my case and certainly not the case for many of our other customers.
Well, if universal fit is better than custom, why did you rate it with only 4 stars?
- Tech Support answered:
- The Roxanne is bigger - much bigger than all the other models we carry and it does not offer a flush fit. So the 4 stars relate to the comfort, not the sound quality.
Do you sell 3.5mm replacement cable instead of 2.5mm?
- Tech Support answered:
- We only carry the 2.5 mm balanced cable at the moment. We apologize for the inconvenience.
