One of number of must have items in life. Didn't know they existed. Gave my ipod shuffle to my son because I didn't like not being able to use the ear phones of my choice. Now that I have the adapter ( and another new shuffle) I can again use the shuffle for mowing the lawn.

Pros:

allows you to use whatever style of ear phones you want

I have long felt that it is worthwhile to use very high quality earphones with iPod Shuffle. And, like a lot of people, I was disappointed when the Shuffle 3rd generation appeared and did not accommodate the majority of earphones. That era is over, thankfully.

Pros:

Sound is EXCELLENT with my Westone UM3x :) Has full functionality intended with Shuffle 3rd generation. Easily sounds as good as my 2nd gen Shuffle, perhaps better.

Cons:

Even that it sounds great, I will always wonder if introducing the extra wire necessary for the shuffle controls has any perceptible affect on the sound. Since I can't play the shuffle with these earphones absent the adapter, we'll never know!
