Agree with previous reviewers in that by using this cable (when compared with the buds that come as shipped with no phone controls) one loses the wire reinforcement that goes over the ear and conforms to the ear which helps to hold the in ear phones in place. Otherwise the cable seems fairly robust when compared to my old (non-Shure) ear buds and the sound/volume is fine. Shure should make this cable more similar to the stock cable.

Generally, I agree with the reviews that state that this cable is flimsier than the stock cable. However, the convenience of (1) having the mic and control on the cable (2) being able to replace the cable for a fraction of the cost of the earphones greatly outweighs the cons. Cables are always the weakest part of any earphone, and this solution has been the least expensive alternative for the best sound. I've replaced the cables 3 times now (twice under warranty), and I find the cables start to fall apart after about 1.5 years of hard use by me. I also tried the Westone replaceable cables, but the Shures work better: the cables stay firmly on the earpieces. I almost lost the earpieces on the Westones several times because they fell off the cables.

Like the idea and intended use of this product. Does not compare to the quality of other Shure products, but does work as described. Cables are too thin and I really miss the wire reinforced cable that goes over the ear and conforms to the ear which helps to hold the in ear phones in place which are one of the main reasons I really like my Shure 425 earphones, besides the incredible sound. The volume up and down buttons could be bigger and more pronounced. Pros: Cons:

The first of these accessory cables lasted for two months before the signal became intermittent at the 45 degree angled jack. One channel began to drop out regularly and finally, the signal would only stay consistent if I did not allow the cable to move at all. Of course, this is not practical. The cable was replaced under warranty, but the replacement began to exhibit the same signal shorting after just two weeks of normal use. I have been extra careful with the replacement, thinking that this might be a weak point with this cable. I use the cable with my iPod Touch, usually with the iPod in my jeans' rear pocket and I always remove it when sitting or bending. The other shortcoming for this accessory is the difficulty associated with the over-the-ear design that other reviewers have mentioned. It is too stiff and doesn't complement the ergonomics of the Shure earphones that is supposedly designed for. The control buttons work well and are the only reason I can imagine that anyone would want to try these. Pros: Cons:

This is the third pair of Shure earphones I have purchased, each time going for the more expensive models. But, the phone cable I purchased in addition to what came with the earpieces has been incredibly disappointing. I replaced the cable within a couple of months because the rubber cable started splitting and ran apart for several inches. So, I purchased a replacement phone cable. Within two weeks that one too had split apart. What was even worse though, was how everyone I was talking to on the phone complained to me they could hear every little noise. I couldn't fill a glass of water while on the phone because my family members thought I was in the middle of a waterfall. And not to exaggerate, but at one point my mother and sister said to me, "what are you doing?" because the sound was so deafening to them. I was simply standing still and breathing. I couldn't turn my head one side to the other while driving without drowning them in loud scratching sounds. I wonder how many clients and coworkers I bothered with this extraneous sound, who were probably being too polite to tell me they couldn't hear me. I love the earpiece, but have reverted to using Bluetooth because even THAT sound filtering is better than this cable. That says a lot... I don't want to buy a replacement cable every month just to use the earpieces. It is unfortunate that I am now not necessarily recommending the Shure product anymore, simply because of a cheap cable. Pros: The earpieces themselves are phenomenal (SE425) I have been able to get excellent sound isolation Cons: The phone cable quality and flaws Clearly the cable wasn't meant to be bent over the ear because this is where the cable ripping seems to start

First the good: The mic sounds good, so I have been told. The not so good: The cable running from the split to the headphones is much thinner than the stock cables. The jack seems to be of a lesser quality than the stock cables. There is no over the ear sleeve as is on the stock cables. The connectors to the earbuds have an incomprehensible elbow in them that makes it impossible to get a complete over the ear run on the cables. Very annoying. The volume buttons work sporadically but the middle button works great. The obvious scaling back of certain things to make up for the cost of the added electronics is very disappointing coming from a company that prides itself on quality. Had the price been $15 instead of $60 I wouldn't have such a problem with this cabling. It is truly not worth the money. Pros: Sound fine Convenient Cons: Uncomfortable cheaply made volume buttons work some of the time terrible design in the connectors Not worth the price

I have used the cable bascially 24-hrs a day (I sleep with music on) and it performs well. The controls work with my iPhone 4 for both calls and iPod. Callers have noted better sound than with my bluetooth headset and I don't miss the cable free feel. Pros: solid build good controls (well built and just work) Cons: Cable tangles more than some other types. Would like a clip to hold both headphones together for when I only use on earphone.

have used this cable from the beginning and works fine on the technical side. but the ear loops/reinforced cable that come on the original cable is much better and comfortable. i'm just experiencing that because after a year of use the cable of this music phone cable is just worn out and the copper is even visible. so if you plan on using this cable extensive, keep in mind that it will last only for a year and hasn't the comfortable wear the original cable has. Pros: remote control Cons: - cable - fit - only in black

I bought this along with a pair of Shure SE535 to use with my iPhone 4, and unfortunately I think that there are more negatives than positives. At first touch I was a disappointed, the wiring feels and looks kind of cheap especially after seeing and touching the Kevlar coated wiring of the SE535. It's too bad that the cable only comes in black, I would have liked to see a transparent version to go along with the clear SE models being released of late. One of the new features of the SE535 is the conformable ear loops but if you use this cabling you lose that feature. It's not all bad, as it looks much better than the previous model (thinner, feels lighter and much more streamlined) and if you pickup this PLUS model you get volume controls. Since the remote/mic is no longer the joining piece between the earphones and the rest of the cabling the remote is now placed higher up and you won't have to worry about whether you need to speak louder or get closer to the mic to talk. As for the mic quality, it's alright no problems on the other end and hearing conversations isn't bad. Bottom line: using this cable does provide me with some benefits over using the stock cabling but it has its trade-offs which quite frankly I think should not be the case, it should add to what is already a great package not take anything away especially if you pay extra. I would still recommend this product but just make sure you weight the pros and cons. Pros: - Much better looking than the model it replaces - Microphone is higher up - Works great with voice control Cons: - No longer comes with shirt clip - Only available in black - No conformable ear loops - Will not fit with official Apple bumper - Wiring seems sub-par compared to bundled earphone cables - Since controls are now in-line there is no more upper wiring adjustment nub

Hello, I had originally ordered the one for the one for the iphone which did not work with my phone I then ordered the non -iPhone one and had the same problem as it would not pick up the call with the answer button. It does say it works with most phone I have an Android ADR-6300 HTC which was on the list so I was hoping it would be able to answer calls. I decided to keep it because the voice is loud and clear with no back ground noise people never know I am on a headset. I will be upgrading my phone to the HTC-REzound which comes with Dr. Dre beats and a mic but I will try my sure with these and see which one is better. The detachable cable on the shure is helpful. Pros: clear sound no back ground noise speak quietly with no problem hearing removable cable strong cable Cons: ear buds not as form fitting as original cable as on the ear piece no loop push to answer/talk does not work on Android HTC

Most people listening to the Shure series are used to high quality audio, sent right to their ears via high quality cable. I own the 530PTH and the 535, but ruined my 535 cable within weeks - to my great surprise, as it feels sturdy and strong enough. I therefore ordered this replacement cable, but would not urge anyone else to do so, unless you are listening to relatively cheaper Shure earphones. The material used feels rather cheap and the cable flimsy. Pros: Plugs in easily to your earphone Cons: Production material Overall product feel

Merchant Response:

Thanks for the review! Yes, these cables are indeed thinner than the regular stock cables that don't have the microphone. We don't know why but that's how Shure decided to have these done. Thanks again for the clarifying this to all of our visitors.

Q.

i have the se215's and my right earphone keeps cutting in and out. i figured out its a loose conection between the cable and the earphone. how should i go about fixing this? sounld i order a new cable or do u think the problem is in the earphone itself? also can i order a single earphone if thats the problem?

asked by jason

A.
Tech Support answered:
Try switching the cables (left and right). If the same earpiece fails, it's not the cables. In which case you would need to file a warranty claim with Shure at 1-800-516-2525.

If the failure is now on the other earpiece, you can simply order a new set of cables here:

www.earphonesolutions.com/smart-phone-shure-mic-cable.html
Thanks!
Q.

Does this cable work with siri on the iPhone 4S? More specifically, will I be able to use the middle button on the controls to activate siri?

asked by Seth Egert

A.
Tech Support answered:
Yes, I successfully utilize this cable with my iPhone 4S to activate siri. Also, I have found this product to have a good service life. I have been using my Shure cables since about mid June 2011. In the past I experienced early failure (five weeks or less) with the control buttons on similarly priced phone cables.
Q.

Is this product also compatible with iPhone 4s?

asked by leland

A.
Tech Support answered:
Yes.
Q.

I want to order the Shure SE535 but I want to be sure the standard cable will fit my iPhone 4s. Will it?

asked by Geoff Wahl

A.
Tech Support answered:
Yes, these will fit the iPhone 4S. Make sure you push the plug firmly all the way in when inserting it into the iPhone 4S audio jack.

Some cases may prevent the plug from going all the way in. In that case you may experience problems but it's really a problem with certain cases. If that happens you will need to buy a different case that doesn't stop the plug from going all the way in.
Q.

Is there loss in sound quality when using this cable (Shure PLUS Music Phone Cable for iPhone, iPod and iPad) compared to the "standard" cable without control?

asked by Jean de Marignac

A.
Tech Support answered:
No loss in sound quality have been reported yet.
Q.

WILL THIS CONTROL SKIP AND GO BACK SONGS ON A MINI IPOD WITH NO CONTROLS?

A.
Tech Support answered:
Yes, just make sure you select the Android version.
Q.
