BOSE IE Triport Review (compared to UM1)
In the world of In-Ear-Monitors there are many brands that raise the quality and performance bars with each new release. Unfortunately, at least this time around, Bose isn't one of these brands. This will probably be the shortest review for a product I will ever write. Why, you ask? Well, I don't have anything positive to say about the Bose Triport except for the cool small case and I will limit the negatives to a manageable amount.
First, they are not REAL IEMs. They don't seal, which is a requirement for IEMs. Second, they are not really designed to stick inside your ear canal like IEMs. Again, another requirement to be called an IEM. Third, I think Bose thought that by pumping up the low end, a lack of which seems to plague most low end IEMs, they would set their "IEMs" apart and make them more attractive to potential customers. The bass on the Bose IE is boomy and with NO definition. How about making a product that sounds as expected from a so-called high end sound brand? Bose put a silicon ear like shaped eartip to make it look like an in-ear earphone, however, that is no more than a regular dynamic earbud (such as the Apple stock earbuds) with the cone shaped silicon tip that is NOT designed to isolate. It just hangs in there. Then why the "cool shape" of the eartip?
If you are willing to spend $100 on these earphones I would steer you instead towards the Westone UM1. Both of these have their pluses and minuses, but even stacking all their minuses against the Bose IEMs they come out on top by a long shot.
The Bose Triport "IEMs" are not really worth the money. Stick to the UM1 instead. You will thank me. If you come across many conflicting reviews about this subject like I have, do what I always do: LISTEN TO THEM BOTH! Don't take my word for it or anybody else's. I would not even compare the Triport IE to the UM1 but I started to see many folks to write about it and I cannot think of anything other than: they NEVER listened to the UM1s.
